A Comparison Study on Accredited Architectural Education Contents between US and Korea

  • Since 2002, Architecture Schools in Korea was changing long traditional architectural education system from 4 years generalized architectural engineering curriculum to 5 years professional architecture program. Until 2010, 76 architecture schools have changed their program to 5 years course which was focused to design studio education. It was a very rapid change and there was not much time develop their own system which could represent institutional identity, character of students and local environment. Korea joined as a regular member of Canberra Accord in 2010 and it is meaningful to compare Korean architecture program contents to another country education contents. US architecture programs were selected for this comparison study. The goals of this study are to create a comparable understanding the form of contents of Architectural Education in US and Korea and to verify the substantial equivalence of these systems. To achieve above goals, three public institutes of each country were selected and analyzed with general information, history, resources, curriculum and the matrix of Student Performance Criteria for quantitative comparison. For qualitative comparison education context of programs were analyzed with program missions, the way of advising, professional connection and distribution of faculty loads.

디지털 미디어 콘텐츠 방송 시스템 구현 (Implementation of the Broadcasting System for Digital Media Contents)

  • Most of digital media contents are composed with video and audio, picture and animation informations. Sometime, there is some deviation of information recognition quality for the video and audio information according to information receiver's characteristics or the understanding. But visual information using the text provide most clear and accurate ways for information recognition to human being. In this paper, we propose a new broadcasting system(BSDMC) to transmit clear and accurate meaning of the digital media contents. We implement general-purpose components to display the video, picture, text and symbol simultaneously. Only plug-in and call these components with proper parameters on the application developing tool, we can easily develop the multimedia contents broadcasting system. These components are implemented based on the object-oriented framework and modular structure so that increase the reusability and can be develop other applications quick and reliable.

지식정보화 사회의 주부소비자교육을 위한 기초연구 (A Baseline Study on Housewife-Consumer Education in the Information Society)

  • This study was conducted to provide a foundation for housewife-consumer education programs appropriate in the information society. For this purpose, the authors reviewed existing literature, analysed consumer counseling cases, and conducted focus group interviews. The need for housewife-consumer education was illustrated, and desirable educational contents and methods were proposed. The existing housewife-consumer education programs did not work effectively because the contents were too general, and mostly structured with non-interactive one-way lectures. More effective programs should be designed to accomodate the educational purpose and contents which fitted with the specific needs of housewives as the representatives of the family consumer units. It should also take the family life cycle stages into consideration. The education programs would work better when they were oriented more toward actively participating, locally-based spontaneous small-groups.

황기와 당귀를 첨가한 약선 계육 양념의 품질 특성 (Quality Characteristics of Yaksun Chicken Sauce with Milk Vetch Roots and Angelica Roots)

  • The purpose of this study was to make Korean yaksun chicken sauce with milk vetch roots and angelica roots. Four different amounts of angelica roots were added to chicken sauces, and general characteristics were measured. The pH values of sauces increased with decreasing Angelica root content. On the other hand, sugar contents, solid contents, and lightness of sauces decreased with decreasing Angelica root content. In a palatability test, sauces with 1 g and 2 g of angelica roots scored high in color, taste, flavor, and overall acceptability. Microbial cell counts of sauces were not significantly different according to the amount of angelica roots. Further, hydroxyl radical scavenging activities and polyphenol contents of sauces were not significantly different except for those of sauces with 1 g of angelica roots. Lastly, flavonoid contents of sauces significantly decreased with decreasing amount of angelica roots.

국내 채소류의 질산염 함량 분석 (Analysis of Nitrate Contents of Some Vegetables Grown in Korea)

  • Nitrate is taken up from the soil by plants for protein synthesis and present in vegetables as a natural component and/or contaminant. The objective of this study was to estimate nitrate(NO3-) contents of some vegetables(Chinese cabbage, radish, lettuce, spinach) which were produced in Korea and to provide a scientific basis for the evaluation of risk to public health arising from dietary exposure to nitrate. A total of 400 samples were analysed for nitrate contents using our ion chromatography. From the results, in general, nitrate levels in vegetables produced by 2 harvest seasons were not different. The minimum, maximum and mean values of nitrate were 311, 5522 and 2788 for spinach; 542, 4484 and 2287 for lettuce; 273, 4151 and 1551 for radish; 362, 3015 and 1498(mg/kg) for Chinese cabbage. Nitrate contents of vegetables grown in Korea were similar to those of vegetables grown in other countries.

침투도랑 인접도로 하부구조의 함수비 측정 및 공용성 분석 (Analysis of Performance and Measurement of Water Contents for Road Substructures with an Infiltration Trench)

  • PURPOSES : This study mechanically analyzed the performance of road substructures with focus on infiltration trenches of pavement substructures. METHODS : Water contents and response times for precipitation of pavement substructures were investigated via sensors buried near the infiltration trench to measure water contents. RESULTS : The results of the water contents of pavement systems constructed with an infiltration trench yield levels that were slightly increased by approximately 2% compared to those measured from general pavement systems. This water content difference of 2% resulted in a decrease in service life of less than two years. CONCLUSIONS : Service life reduction due to an infiltration trench is minimal, particularly when the trench is installed with proper caution.

Polyphenolic Contents and Antioxidant Activities of Underutilized Grape (Vitis vinifera L.) Pomace Extracts

  • Grape pomace is an abundant source of underutilized winery by-products. Polyphenols were extracted from grape pomace using cellulase and gluco-amylase enzymes. 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and Folin-Ciocalteu's assays were used to measure antioxidant activity and total polyphenolic contents. Both cellulase, and gluco-amylase digested grape pomace showed efficient radical scavenging activity. In addition, the total polyphenolic contents of cellulase digested grape pomace showed lower concentrations were effective compared to higher concentrations, whereas glucoamylase enzyme did not show remarkable variations. The DPPH radical scavenging activity and total polyphenolic contents were significantly higher in the cellulase digested grape pomace compared to the gluco-amylase digested and the not digested grape pomace. It is notable that enzymatic digestions were efficient for extracting polyphenols from grape pomace. The underutilized grape pomace polyphenols can be further used for food safety as a natural antioxidant.

A Novel Method for Bitrate Control within Macroblocks Using Kalman and FIR Filters

  • In this letter, we propose a novel bitrate control, using both Kalman and FIR filters, based on a Hamiltonian analysis with respect to the amount of bits from each macroblock, in an encoding of a general video codec such as H.264/AVC. Since the proposed bitrate control is based on the simple computation of an optimal control method based on the Hamiltonian analysis, it is not necessary to use additional computation, such as a DCT or quantization, to estimate the bits for bitrate control. As a result, the proposed algorithm can be applied to single-pass encoding and can provide sufficient encoding speed with respect to various applications, even those requiring real-time control.

  • To study the response to plant growth by the environmental factors, the effects of application of nitrogen on changes in the yield, crude protein, amino acids, chlorophyll, carotene, total phosphorus, acid-soluble phosphorus, phospholipids, RNA, and DNA were investigated with westerworlds 9Lolium sublatum) and perennial rye-grasses (Lolium perenne). The amounts of dry weight, crude protein, amino acids, chlorophyll, carotene, total phosphorus, acid-soluble phosphorus, phospholipids, RNA and DNA of both rye-grasses increased with adequately increasing nitrogen, and reached a maximum with an adequate application of nitrogen. The relationships between yields and crude protein contents, crude protein and RNA contents, and yields and RNA contents of westerworlds and perennial rye-grasses were found to be positively correlated, respectively. 스토리텔링을 접목한 상주향토음식 개발 - '정기룡장군 밥상'을 중심으로 - (Development of Native Local Foods in Sangju by Storytelling-combined - A Case of 'General Jeong's Table' -)

  • This study intends to discover stories and sensibilities connected with characteristics and symbols of the history and culture of Sangju to develop contents about the native foods of Sangju. 'General Jeong's Table', which supplied the energy and nutrition necessary for soldiers during war, is set with Jobap, Patipguk, Euneogui, Baechumoojeon, Kongnamulheojib, Patipnamul, and Munamulsileagideanjangmuchim. 'Sangjuseong retaking wartime food', as a kind of ready-to-eat meal, which stresses convenience above everything else, is composed of Konggarujumeokbap, Bbongipjuk, Gamjangajji, and Odigojgammodeumbagitteok for table setting. 'General Jeong's liquor table', which allowed the general to regain his energy or was set to entertain generals of allied forces in the Myeong Dynasty, is formed by Baeksuk, Gojgamssam, Kongjukjijim and Sangsurisul. Efficacies of food materials were analyzed in the Part of Drug Formula of the best-known medical book in Asia. Foods on 'General Jeong's Table' has health efficacies that protect the five viscera and maintain the spleen and stomach.
