Purpose: This study aimed to explore factors influencing on the preventive behaviors of dementia in older Koreans enrolled in senior welfare centers to provide basic information on dementia prevention. Methods: A total of 182 older Koreans participated in this study, which employed a cross-sectional design. Data were collected using questionnaires with items related to general characteristics, depression, self-esteem, knowledge and attitudes about dementia, preventive behaviors of dementia, dementia management self-efficacy, and anxiety about dementia. Using SPSS WIN 23.0, data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffé test, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression. Results: Living with a spouse (p=.013), a higher monthly income (p=.018), better nutrition (p=.010), not having a sleep disorder (p<.001), and higher number of participating programs (p=.001) were associated with better dementia prevention behaviors. Attitudes about dementia (=.18, p=.006) and the number of programs older Koreans were participating in (=.17, p=.006) influenced positively on the preventive behaviors of dementia, while depression (=-.41, p<.001) and sleep disorders (=-.17, p=.006) influenced negatively on dementia preventive behaviors. Overall, approximately 35% of the variability in dementia preventive behaviors was explained by these four variables in this study (F=24.97, p<.001). Conclusion: The findings of this study suggest that depression reduction, good attitudes about dementia, program participation, and good sleep should be encouraged to promote dementia prevention. In addition, effective and structured educational programs should be developed for older Koreans to encourage dementia preventive behaviors to reduce the risk of dementia.
This purposed of this study was to investigate the effect of empathy on social justice commitment from a social-cognitive perspective. Specifically, we examined how cognitive and affective empathy affect social justice commitment through social justice self-efficacy, social justice outcome expectation, and social justice interest which represent a social-cognitive path of behavior. Based on the self-report survey sample of 537 people in their twenties, we first controlled social desirability, and then analyzed the measurement and structure model using Structure Estimate Modeling(SEM). As a result, it turned out that both cognitive and affective empathy indirectly affected social justice commitment through the path of the social-cognitive model. However, affective empathy had a larger effect size compared to cognitive empathy. Results suggest that empathy competence has an effect on not only general altruistic behavior as known before but also social justice behavior which include the value of equality and anti-discrimination. Finally, ways for facilitating social justice commitment in terms of cognitive and affective empathy were suggested.

In view of the educational effects and social changes of software education, equal opportunities for software education are needed regardless of general students and students with disabilities. However, studies on software education for general students have been actively conducted, but studies on software education for students with disabilities are insufficient. In this study, we developed a robot education software education program for students with developmental disabilities. Developing robot-enabled software education programs for students with developmental disabilities is meaningful in terms of expanding software education opportunities for all. In addition, the robot-based software education program is easy to motivate students with developmental disabilities with low task concentration, short-term memory, and low sociality. Significant changes will be made not only in terms of management capacity, but also in terms of self-efficacy and confidence.
'I'his study investigated students' attitude toward mathematics. and how behavior/cognitive training affects level of math anxietv and level of math achievement. Subjects were all the freshmen attending Taejon Science High School, and they were given Mathematics Attitudes Scale and Attributional Style Questionnaire prior to and post training sessions. Twenty out of 84 freshmen voluntarily participated in nine sessions of training program. Participants were asked to do self-evaluation. Math achievement was measured prior to and post training. and was compared between two groups. Training program utilized behavior/cognitive approach. such as understanding one's feeling through muscle relaxation, breathing and meditation; modifying negative attributional style; imitating effective cognitive strategies for math problem solving, and so on. 'I'he result shows that students' math confidence in general was relatively low out of expectation, a nd they perceived teachers not supporting their math abilities :IS much as expected. On the other hand, students in general had strong math achievelment needs, and considered math utility very high. Sex difference was seen in the attitude toward female math abilities, to result that female students had more positive perception than male students. Female students of 'I'aejon Science High School seem free from conventional idea about female abilities including theirs. Participants' ~attitude change was compared with non-participants. and participants showed statistically significant change in their math confidence, and also in their math achievement. Participants had much higher math confidence and ~achievement than non-participants. And, they showed increased level of perceiving teachers' expectation. more realistic in needs, and more involvement in math. Math achievement was found positively related to math confidence, and participants' math achievement change was explained by their belief in math utility. Not only training program effect hut also participants' voluntary involvement and teacher\ulcorner' support of the program and participation seem to increase their math achievement. Based upon the result of study it was suggested that behavior-/cognitive training program be provided along with academic curricula for gifted students of Korea to help their emotional and psychological development enhance the efficacy of their cognitive learning.

Objectives: This study was performed to evaluate the consumer education program for reducing sodium intake based on social cognitive theory (SCT) and investigate consumer perceptions of environmental, cognitive and behavioral factors. Methods: Consumers (n=4,439) were recruited nationwide in Korea to participate in a nutrition education program for reducing sodium intake which was targeted on senior housewives (SH), parents (P), and office workers (OW). Questions regarding main factors of SCT were asked both before and after the education program. Results: SH and P recognized external social efforts and information to reduce sodium including nutrition labeling more than OW. The main barriers to practice reducing sodium intake were limited choice of low sodium food and menu, interference with social relationship when dining with others, and limited information, knowledge and skills. SH had lower barriers to practice reducing sodium intake and OW perceived 'preference to soup or stew' and 'preference to Kimchi, salted fish and fermented sauces' as barriers more than other groups at the baseline. Less than 50% of participants knew the relationship between sodium and salt, sodium in nutrition labeling, and recommended sodium intake. In addition, OW had little knowledge for capability to reduce sodium intake and lower self-efficacy to practice compared with SH and P. After education, positive outcome expectations such as lowering blood pressure, prevention of cardiovascular disease and osteoporosis were increased and barriers to practice reducing sodium intake were decreased in all groups (p < 0.05). The knowledge for behavioral capability and self-efficacy to reduce sodium intake were also improved but OW had still lower scores compared with other groups. Conclusions: These results suggested that nutrition education programs could be an effective tool to impact general population by facilitating awareness and increased capability to reduce sodium intake.
In the mid-2000s, Web 2.0 appears and is becoming a general cultural code with the keyword of participation, sharing, and openness. Web 2.0, in which consumption is being transformed by the participatory web culture, has evolved. However, associated with the evolution of Web 2.0, several significant concerns appears in a society. Among them, this study will focuses on the cyber-ethics issues. There are limitations to solve the cyber-ethics problems only in the technical and legal approaches. Therefore, the current article intends to consider comprehensively the antecedents of cyber-ethics such as individual characteristics, social influence, and cultural characteristics. Specifically, (1) Do individual characteristics(i.e., self-efficacy, locus of control) affect cyber-ethics in the Web 2.0 environment?, (2) Do social influence(i.e., subjective norm) have an effect on cyber-ethics?, (3) Do cyber -ethics have an impact on user participation in the Web 2.0 services(i.e., retrieval and creation)?, finally (4) Do international cultural difference have a moderation effect on the relationship between cyber-ethics and user participation? For testing empirically the hypothesized research model, this study collected questionnaires in South Korea as well as U.S.A. The results showed that individual characteristics and social influence affect cyber-ethics toward user's creative activities in Web 2.0 sites.
This study aims to develop strategies for improving the affective characteristics of Korean students based on results from international achievement tests. In pursuing the goal, different research methods are employed including a) analysis of the theories and literature regarding the affective domains included in PISA and TIMSS studies; b) analysis of the current situation and needs of Korean students with respect to the affective factors based on PISA and TIMSS results; c) case studies of best practices in relation to students' affective domains in Korea and abroad; and d) development of strategies for improving and supporting Korean students' affective characteristics. In this paper, first of all, relevant theories on affective characteristics in literature are introduced. In other words, the concepts of three affective domains in question - interest, self-efficacy, and value - are reviewed, and their definitions for the present study are made. Also, teaching strategies and support plans for improving students' affective factors are extracted from previous studies. Furthermore, this paper reviews recent trends in research on how the affective domains are related to mathematics education and how one can teach them effectively. The teaching guidelines for each affective domain are developed according to the instruction principles extracted through literature review in general for all subjects. Based on the results of the findings mentioned above, this paper establishes and suggests the guidelines on how to teach mathematics reflecting the affective characteristic.
The purpose of the study was to identify the effects of a 12-week low-intensity exercise program on muscle strength, flexibility, balance, and cognitive characteristics related to the performance of activity of daily living(ADL). A total of 16 patients who were admitted to the medical unit of a general hospital in ChoongChung province were recruited, eight for the exercise group and eight for the comparison group. Four levels of low-intensity exercise from 'ROM on bed' to 'exercise while walking' were then applied to the exercise group according to their physical condition. During hospitalization, patients in the exercise group performed each level of the prescribed exercise with the researchers until they felt comfortable doing it independently. The researchers also visited the patients' homes after discharge to make sure they could perform the exercise with Theraband in their living environment. The exercise group was contacted by phone once a week to assess the frequency and intensity in which they performed the exercise as well as their physical condition. The subjects in the comparison group participated in measurements for the study without performing the exercise and were contacted by phone after discharge, in a matched time frame with the exercise group, to assess physical condition. Muscle strength, flexibility, balance, cognitive characteristics, and performance of ADL for the two groups were compared at the pretest and the posttest after the low-intensity exercise program by utilizing SPSSWIN and the results are as follows : 1) At the postest, measurements of muscle strengths showed that the strength of the dorsal flexor in the exercise group was significantly higher than in the comparison group. 2) Objective balance for the exercise group was significantly better than for the comparison group as measured by 'standing on one foot' and Tinetti gait and balance control. 3) The exercise group showed significantly higher task self-efficacy than the comparison group. 4) Perceived exertion for ADL for the exercise group was significantly lower than for the comparison group. 5) Improvement of performance of ADL without assistance was significantly higher for the exercise group than the comparison group. The findings suggest that a low-intensity exercise program would be useful for the elderly who show decline in their physical functioning due to hospitalization by partly improving physical strength, task self-efficacy, and performance of ADL. Directions for further research on issues of motivating people to exercise as well as of standardizing various types of exercise were discussed.
This study was conducted to compare nutrient intakes regarding stages of change in dietary fiber increasing behavior. Subjects were consisted of healthy 383 college students (2S0 females and 133 males) in Kyunggi-Do. Stages of change classified by an algorithm based on 6 items were designed each subjects into one of the 5 stages: precontemplation (PC), contemplation (CO), preparation (PR), action (AC), maintenance (MA). Nutrient intakes were assessed by 24-hr recall method. Regarding the S stages of changes, PR stage comprised the largest group $(39.4\%)$, followed by AC $(33.7\%)$, MA$(14.6\%)$, PC$(7.6\%)$, CO$(34.7\%)$. Female were more belong to either AC or MA. The higher stage of change in dietary fiber increasing behavior, the higher self-efficacy. In all male and female, there were no differences in energy, protein, monounsaturated fatty acids, polyunsaturated fatty acids and cholesterol intakes across the 5 stages. But, fiber, postassuim (K), vitamin A and vitamin C intakes of AC or MA were higer than those of PC, CO and PR $Energy\%$ from fat of $PR(25.4\~26.5\%)$ was higher than $20\%$, and those of AC and MA was lower than the other groups. Dietary P/S and ${\varepsilon}6/{\varepsilon}$ 3 ratios of AC and MA were similar to the recommended ratio. Female of PR had the most total saturated fat and palmitic acid and those of MA had the least. Male of PR had the least $\alpha-LNA\;({\varepsilon}3)$ and total ${\varepsilon}3$ fatty acids and those of MA had the most. In male and female in AC or MA, fiber and K intakes from breakfast, dinner and snack and vitamin C intakes from all meals were higher than those of the other stages. These results of our study confirm differences in stages of change in fiber intake in terms of nutritional status. To have lower $energy\%$ from fat, higher intakes of K, fiber and vitamins, desirable ratio of dietary fatty acids, it needs consistent nutritional education leading to the AC or MA of fiber increasing behavior.

This study investigates the validity of a Korean version of the Client Assessment Summary (CAS), which is a tool used to assess the recovery of alcoholics. We investigated the Korean CAS's suitability for use in assessing the scale of recovery scale of general alcoholics in Korea. In this study, we analyzed the data of 205 abstaining alcoholics in order to determine the validity of the Korean CAS. We undertook relationship analyses of CAS contents, reliability, and composition validity through factor analysis. In addition, we assessed ARS, abstinence period, abstinence self-efficacy, illness insight, and motivation change variables. The factor analysis results, performed after verification of content suitability by assessing 12 questions and 4 factors, confirmed the tool's composition validity, with the results showing relatively high values (R2 = 76.26%, communality ${\geq}0.6$, and KMO = 0.92). Moreover, internal consistency was acceptable (Cronbach's alpha = 0.92), and the correlations among ARS, abstinence self-efficacy, illness insight, and motivation change variables confirmed the validity of the Korean CAS. The proposed Korean CAS is expected to be useful when academically and clinically assessing the recovery of alcoholics; thereby, eventually contributing to successful recoveries from alcoholism.
