  • This paper argues that the de se reading is a composite of the corresponding de re one plus the presupposition that there exists a strong epistemic relation between the object of attitude, linguistically realized as an anaphor, and the attitude-bearer, the referent of the anaphor's antecedent. Close examination of the relation between the attitudes de se and anaphora reveals that the notion de se, as currently understood, should be generalized to explain the choice of anaphors. A taxonomy of anaphors in terms of a general notion like presupposition provides further empirical support for the approach taken here.

  • The semantic and pragmatic effect of inerrogative illocutionary operator is analyzed in a dynamic setting in the framework of structured meaning representation with respect to the dialogue participants' shared common ground. I propose a framework for an optinal interpretation of focus phrases in terrogatives share the essential properties of focus in general, namely that they introduce alternatives to be taken advantage of by relevant focus-sensitive operators. The theory makes an interesting prediction on the distribution and interpretation of double questions in which one question gets modified by another. A further extention of the theory is spelled out to account for other non-assertional illocutionary operators like imperatives and their foci.

  • A new combined isotropic/kinematic and orthotropic hardening viscoplastic model is proposed which can account for not only differential orientations but also preferred orientations of grains in n metal at finite plastic deformations with an introduction of multiple spin (rate of rotation) concept within the general framework of the model, the effects of anisotropy and constitutive spins will be discussed in conjunction with a closed-form solution for simple shear in n rigid-plastic material, which will be used to simulate experimental data of Montheillet, et al. (1984) for fixed-end tortion tests at finite plastic deformations.

  • Objects of this study were to find the cooling effect of solar-heated greenhouse with rock bed storage in summer season and to suggest operation method of cooling energy saving in summer cropping greenhouse. Experiments were performed to analyze inside environment variation of solar-heated greenhouse. When we took account of different shading and ground conditions of greenhouse, we could conclude that inside average daytime temperature of the solar-heated greenhouse was 2.0∼2.4$^{\circ}C$ lower than the general greenhouse in summer season.

  • In this paper, a nonlinear structural damage identification algorithm is derived by taking into account the structurally damped spectral element model thinking over a real situation. The structural damage identification analyses are conducted by using the Newton-Raphson method. It is found that, in general Structural Damage Identification by using the Structurally Damped Spectral Element Model provides the same exact damage identification results when compared with the results obtained by the structurally undamped spectral model.

  • A theoretical consideration for entropy changes in a magnetic solid is given in a general manner and has been taken into account for such La$\sub$0.7/Ca$\sub$0.3-x/Ba$\sub$x/MnO$_3$(x = 0.12, 0.24, 0.3) compounds. The total entropy changes, in which the total entropy is decomposed into the magnetic, lattice, and electron entropies, are discussed in detail. (omitted)

  • Wave nonlinearity and dispersivity have mutually counteracting effects on the wave evolution process; i.e., the former makes the wave profile steeper, while the latter milder. Therefore to describe evolution of nonlinear water waves under general condition such as nonlinear random waves over arbitrary depths, both the wave nonlinearity and dispersivity must be properly taken into account in the wave modeling. • Since oil spills discharged by offshore oil production platforms, ship accidents etc., cause many environmental problems, forecasts of drift and spreading of the spilled oil are requested as a basis for oil spill combat management. The numerical approach has been thought as the most effective methods of such forecast. In general, the oil spill model takes into account the trajectory and fate of oil, including drifting, spreading, evaporation, dispersion, emulsification, shoreline standing, and so on. (omitted)

  • General state of research in fundamentals and applied areas of tribology is analysed with taldng account of changes in structure of funding and other aspects of transfer from centmllzed state economy to market one under simultaneous effect of USSR disintegration to independent states. Belarus Tribology Society as a coordinating body is presented. Activities of the major centers of research in friction, wear and lubrication are shown. Recent advances in development of analytical and calculation methods, surface characterization, wear testing and standardization, condition monitoring and tribomaterials are considered.

  • In this study, factor and cluster analysis have been conducted to group the differences in Korean view on national economic policy in the sample of the 2006 Korean General Social Survey (KGSS). According to the 2006 KGSS, the 6 items with a 5-point Likert scale include the questions about whether or the extent to which each respondent supports the specific types of governmental economic policy. In our study, at first, the factor analysis has converted the original 6 items into the 3 composite variables that account for 81% in the total variability. As the second step of factor analysis, factor scores have been computed. Then, the K-means cluster analysis based on the factor scores has been conducted to group the survey respondents into the 3 clusters. In particular, the cross-tabulation analysis has shown that the distribution of the 3 clusters varies with the respondents' socio-demographic characteristics.
