The vibrational model of a helical gear pair is developed with considering the elastic deformation of the active teeth and the body to be a rigid. The main source of vibration in geared system which has been known to be the gear transmission error is mathematically formulated and used for the analysis of vibrational characteristics of geared system. As an example, a simple geared system containing a helical gearing is considered. The critical speeds are found by the campbell diagram and compared with the experimental results.
In a transmission or geared rotor system a coupled phenomenon of lateral and torsional vibrations may occur due to the gear meshing effect. Particularly, in high speed or low vibration and low noise applications of geared rotor systems a coupled rotordynamic analysis is required to precisely predict their dynamic characteristics. In this paper a generalized finite element model of a gear pair element is developed, which actively couples the lateral and torsional vibrations due to the gear meshing effect. In the modeling the generalized forces due to the transmission error. geometrical eccentricities. and unbalances in the gear system are also considered. Then. using the developed gear pair element model a coupled unforced rotordynamic analysis is performed with a prototype 800 RT turbo-chiller rotor-bearing system having a hull-pinion speed increasing gear. Results show that the torsional vibration characteristics experience some changes due to the gear meshing and lateral dynamic coupling effect, but that they have no adverse effect and the lateral ones have no practical changes in an operating speed range.
In this study, torsional and lateral vibrations of a gear box transmission system were analyzed theoretically using some mathematical models and examined to determine the causes of its excessive vibrations. As the results, it was found there exist possibility of resonance between gear mesh frequencies and lateral vibration mode of the transmission shaft during the third shifting mode operation. In order to avoid this resonance, we proposed changing the arrangement of gears on the transmission shaft. The measured vibration levels of the improved gear box were dramatically reduced. These results may be helpful to design a machine tool gear box with low noise and vibration.
A vibration model of a helical gear pair for vehicle transmission is developed by considering the elastic deformation of the active teeth and the body to be a rigid. The main source of vibration in a helical gear system which caused by the mass unbalances of rotors and the transmission errors of gearings in mathematically formulated and applied to the analysis of vibration characteristics of geared systems. As an example, a simple geared system containing a helical gearing is considered. The critical speeds are found by the Campbell diagram and compared with the experimental results We expect this developed program to contribute to the reduction of the vibration and noise on vehicle a transmission in the field of both design and manufacturing. In addition, this program can be used as a basic program for CAD/CAM of low-noised gear teeth.

Continuously variable transmission (CVT) mechanisms combine the functions of a K-H-V type differential gear unit and a V-belt type continuously variable unit (CVU). For the 24 different mechanisms, 12 of them are power circulation modes while the other 12 are power split modes. Some useful theoretical formulas related to speed ratio, power flow and efficiency were derived and analyzed. These mechanisms have many advantages: they decrease CVT size and weight, increase overall efficiency, extend speed ratio range, and generate geared neutral. Compound CVTs were developed by combining the power circulation mode and power split mode, which can offer backward motion, geared neutral, underdrive and overdrive.
Main sources of the vibration in gear driving system are transmission error and backlash. Transmission error is the difference of the rotation between driving and driven gear due to tooth deformation and profile error. Vibro-impacts induced by backlash between meshing gears lead to excessive vibration and noise in many geared rotation systems. Nonlinear dynamic characteristics of the gear driving system due to transmi- ssion error and backlash are investigated. Transmission error is calculated for spur gear. Nonlinear equation of motion for the gear driving system is developed with the calculated transmission error and backlash. Numerical analysis of the equation and the experimental results show the existence of meshing frequency, superharmonic compon- ents. Instability of the gear driving motion is found on the basis of Mathieu equation. Rattle vibration due to backlash is also discussed on the basis if nonlinear jump phenomenon.
In the gear manufacturing, tooth modification is usually applied for the prevention of tooth impact during the loading. In contrary, tooth profile error causes amplifying the whine noise which is cumbersome to reduce in the automobile gear box. So optimum quantity of the modifications must be obtained for the good performance in the vibrational sense. In this paper, a formulation to define the tooth curve by considering the profile manufacturing error and loading deformation of the gear tooth is suggested and the transmission error and loading deformation of the gear tooth is suggested and the transmission error with modified tooth in the gear system is evaluated. A pair of gear set is mathematically modelled. The equivalent excitation in the gear vibratonal model is formulated. For the experimental evaluaton on the derived transmission error function, a simple geared system is set up in which the gears are designed to give pre-designed tooth profile modification and manufactured by CNC Wire Cutting Machine. Under slow speed operaton, the transmission error of the gear pair is measured by using two rotational laser vibrometers, compared with the calculated one of which the result shows good agreement.
When operating lathe gear box which is equipped with geared transmission, it sometimes generates loud noise and excessive vibrations. In order to identify their causes, in this study, torsional and lateral vibration characteristics including critical speeds of the gear transmission system are firstly analyzed using lumped parameter models. Natural frequencies and mode shapes of the gear box structure are also analyzed by using the modal test. Furthermore, measured vibration and noise signals during operations are analyzed and compared with theoretical analysis results. After all, it is concluded that the primary cause of the excessive noise and vibrations is the resonance between gear meshing frequency including its side bands, the frequencies of shaft bending and torsional vibrations, and the natural frequencies of the gear box structure. Consequently the noise and vibration levels are greatly reduced by avoiding resonance between the natural frequencies and gear meshing frequencies through the rearrangement of the gears on the transmission shaft without any gear ratio change.
The mathematical model of the gear reductioner which consists which consists of the geared rotor-bearing system containing case is developed, assuming as the lumped parameter system. Constraints for vibration suppresion as well as strength of gear teeth, and shaft and kinematic conditions in gear pairs are considered. To find the design parameters satisfing the proposed constraints, a direct search method modified by the technique of Taguchi's experimental scheduling is used. One and two stepped gear reductioners are designed so that the criticl speeds due to the gear transmission error are moved out of the operating speed range.
