Vibration Characteristics of Worm Gear Faults for Elevators (승강기용 웜기어의 결함에 따른 진동 특성)

  • According to the survey, abnormal condition of the system is the main source for interrupting an elevator service, especially faults in worm gears used for the traction machine. Worm gear is popularly used in traction machine for middle and low speed elevators. Elevators need high reliability and stability, because they are closely related to human life. Usually, traction machine is applied to drive the elevators that have height about 35 m and it is an important mechanical unit for riding quality in elevators. There are some research results about types of vibration fault for worm gear in International Association Elevator Engineers (IAEE). But this study concerns with diagnosis of various faults in elevator worm gear using vibration signal. The analysis of fault characteristics is compared with previous researches in traction machine.

  • A gearbox can be regarded as a self-exciting dynamic system, which has a vibration source. Transmission error (TE) is considered to be an main excitation source for gear noise and vibration. The TE excitation is transmitted through the gears, shafts, bearings, and housings. Thus, an experimental approach to each mechanical parts is useful in order to understand and evaluate the dynamic behaviour of a gearbox. This study is focused on the transmission and vibration characteristics of a helical gear system in development stage. In addition, by considering the tolerance factors and resonance characteristics, the vibration response of actual dynamic system is analysed.

  • This paper is the study on stress analysis of spur gear using a finite element method. Gear drives constitute very important mechanisms in transmitting mechanical power processes compromising several cost effective and engineering advantages. The load transmission occurred by the contacting surfaces arises variable elastic deformations which are being evaluated through finite element analysis. The automatic gear design program is developed to model gear shape precisely. This gear design system developed was used by pre-processor of FEM packages. The distribution of stresses at contacting surfaces was examined when a pair of gear contact.

  • Stabilizing the operation of dual fuel diesel engines is very important. The shipbuilding industry is rapidly growing, but gear components requiring reliability are still imported from other countries. The reasoning for this is three-fold. Firstly, it is compulsory that all ships must use devices that meet the performance standards specified in the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) and the convention of MARine POLlution (MAPOL) to prevent pollution caused by ships. Secondly, most ships must comply with the ship classifications specified by ship owners. Therefore, it is specified that key engine gear components must be inspected and authorized for the quality and performance specified by the Ship Register Authority. Thirdly, it is essential that devices (engine gear) for human safety in ships comply with quality standards specified in the regulations and rules by the government. The Ship Register Authority's strict quality standards and approval requirements contribute to the reduction of motivation towards new investment and technology development by device component manufacturers. Therefore, this study aims to develop a method for using infrared thermography to examine gear reliability in order to ensure gear component reliability and national competitiveness in the global market.

  • In the case of 4 wheel drive (4-WD) type car, power switching occurs to 4-WD by operating lever or switch that operates power switching device attached in transfer case which can operate motor by electric signal. So if the RPM of motor is high, power switching will not exactly occur and can cause damage to gear in transfer case according to circumstances. So in this study, we applied 2 level of planet gear type motor spindle of motor drive part of a power train. And conducted decelerating to increase torque to switch power safe and accurately. Also, we researched efficiency of gear by designing reduction gear ratio and gear type and by calculating contact stress and bending strength. Based on researched content, we made drive head of power switching device and a reduction module which uses type that uses motor spindle as sun gear and ring gear as cover.

  • This research was conducted structural analysis in order to analyze the impact of the gear in Urea pump when the water is frozen. Subject of study, gear was designed nine models, this gear is a spur gear, located in pump. Contact conditions and rotation conditions were set the gear's condition of restriction. Given 136 MPa pressure to external gear by water was set to the applied stress. The performing result of structural analysis, maximum stress and strain are appeared between two gears. At the same diameter, strain and stress are decreased gradually thicker. Because of the little part in crevice between gears, this parts of gears could be obtained conclusion to be generated maximum stress and strain.

  • Planetary gear box is a power transmitter having very high gear ratio in compact volume. The planetary step-down gear box converts high speed and low torque into low speed and high torque, which is widely used in constructional and industrial machinery field. And, the planetary step-up gear box does vice versa working, which is used as main gear box of large sized wind mill system. The large sized planetary gear box must be performed the normal-opposite rotation test as a its durability test for achieving the reliability. The large sized planetary gear box is composed by triple gear trains of sun gear, carrier, and ring gear. If input power is supplied into one of them and the other is fixed, and then another becomes the output part. In this paper, we designed a new test equipment which can do rapid normal and opposite rotational change with only small displacement by supplying test power using the above rotation (driving) characteristics and hydraulic cylinder and link, and also compared and analyzed with existing method through various experiments.

  • A vehicle's differential gear is a device designed to allow the vehicle's outer wheels to turn faster than the inner wheels when turning on a curve. The differential gear case is the main component of the differential gear system, which is composed of ring gear, pinion gear and side gear, and is fastened by pinion shaft pins. The differential gear case rotates when the vehicle is running, so balancing calibration is very important. In this study, a balancing machine that can diagnose and correct the differential gear case and mass imbalance of various rotating bodies was designed. The differential gear case was rotated at high speed to accurately diagnose the location and value of the unbalanced mass, and it was designed to be balanced and corrected by removing the unbalanced mass by drilling. After calibration, it was confirmed that the unbalanced value of all the measured samples was reduced to less than 180g.mm, and the unbalance reduction ratio was improved to 60~70%.

Design of Power Transmission System of a Water Bike (수상 자전거의 동력전달장치 설계)

  • The power transmission system has always been considered critical for a human powered boat(or water bike) since it first showed up at Human Powered Vessel Festival. Mechanical problems, such as abrasions and other damages of the gear system for the power transmission, lead to poor durability and low efficiency of a boat. This paper described mechanical problems and a design process of power transmission system and then suggested the method to solve the problems. It is selected a module and a type of gears that are structurally stable thus can transmit the power durable. Especially the lower gear box is applied to CRP(contra rotating propeller) system for improving the structural stability and the propeller efficiency as well. As the results, the upper and lower gear box are designed and manufactured. And from the trial test, it is confirmed that the power transmission system is reliable.

Investigation of System Efficiency of an Electro-hydrostatic Actuator with an External Gear Pump (소형 외접기어펌프를 사용하는 EHA의 시스템 효율 분석)

  • In this study, the maximum system efficiency of the electro-hydrostatic actuators was experimentally investigated, where small size external gear pumps with volumetric displacement under 1.3 cc/rev were combined with a 400W servomotor as the prime mover. Since the efficiency data of the servomotor, gear pumps and hydraulic cylinder were not provided by the suppliers, experimental apparatuses for their efficiency measurement were extra built up. When a gear pump with a volumetric displacement of 1.27cc/rev was used on an electro-hydrostatic actuator system, the maximum system efficiency was not higher than 70%. This was because the most effective operation ranges of the motor and pump did not coincide each other. In order to match their operation ranges as one of the most crucial design factors, a speed reduction mechanism can be used, such as a timing belt. It was shown in the study that the maximum system efficiency could be increased from 70% to 76% in that way.
