  • An accurate trajectory prediction is a key to the safe and efficient operations of aircraft. One way to improve trajectory prediction accuracy is to develop a model for aircraft ground speed prediction. This paper proposes a generative model for posterior aircraft ground speed prediction. The proposed method fits the Gaussian Mixture Model(GMM) to historical data of aircraft speed, and then the model is used to generates probabilistic speed profile of the aircraft. The performances of the proposed method are demonstrated with real traffic data in Incheon Flight Information Region(FIR).

  • Determination of the most meaningful structural modes and gaining insight into how these modes evolve are important issues for long-term structural health monitoring of the long-span bridges. To address this issue, modal parameters identified throughout the life of the bridge need to be compared and linked with each other, which is the process of mode tracking. The modal frequencies for a long-span bridge are typically closely-spaced, sensitive to the environment (e.g., temperature, wind, traffic, etc.), which makes the automated tracking of modal parameters a difficult process, often requiring human intervention. Machine learning methods are well-suited for uncovering complex underlying relationships between processes and thus have the potential to realize accurate and automated modal tracking. In this study, Gaussian mixture model (GMM), a popular unsupervised machine learning method, is employed to automatically determine and update baseline modal properties from the identified unlabeled modal parameters. On this foundation, a new mode tracking method is proposed for automated mode tracking for long-span bridges. Firstly, a numerical example for a three-degree-of-freedom system is employed to validate the feasibility of using GMM to automatically determine the baseline modal properties. Subsequently, the field monitoring data of a long-span bridge are utilized to illustrate the practical usage of GMM for automated determination of the baseline list. Finally, the continuously monitoring bridge acceleration data during strong typhoon events are employed to validate the reliability of proposed method in tracking the changing modal parameters. Results show that the proposed method can automatically track the modal parameters in disastrous scenarios and provide valuable references for condition assessment of the bridge structure.

  • As the world is trying to establish smart city, unmanned vehicle control systems are being widely used. This paper writes about an unmanned parking control system that uses an adaptive background image modeling method, suggesting the method of updating the background image, modeled with an adaptive Gaussian mixture model, in both global and local way according to the moving object. Specifically, this paper focuses on suggesting two methods; a method of minimizing the influence of a moving object on a background image and a method of accurately updating the background image by quickly removing afterimages of moving objects within the area of interest to be monitored. In this paper, through the implementation of the unmanned vehicle control system, we proved that the proposed system can quickly and accurately distinguish both moving and static objects such as vehicles from the background image.

  • This paper analyzes the relationship between two representative statistical methods for bandwidth extension (BWE): Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM) and Hidden Markov Model (HMM) ones, and compares their performances. The HMM method is a memory-based system which was developed to take advantage of the inter-frame dependency of speech signals. Therefore, it could be expected to estimate better the transitional information of the original spectra from frame to frame. To verify it, a dynamic measure that is an approximation of the 1st-order derivative of spectral function over time was introduced in addition to a static measure. The comparison result shows that the two methods are similar in the static measure, while, in the dynamic measure, the HMM method outperforms explicitly the GMM one. Moreover, this difference increases in proportion to the number of states of HMM model. This indicates that the HMM method would be more appropriate at least for the 'blind BWE' problem. On the other hand, nevertheless, the GMM method could be treated as a preferable alternative of the HMM one in some applications where the static performance and algorithm complexity are critical.

  • The background subtraction method is mainly used for the real-time extraction and tracking of moving objects from image sequences. In the outdoor environment, there are many changeable environment factors such as gradually changing illumination, swaying trees and suddenly moving objects , which are to be considered for an adaptive processing. Normally, GMM(Gaussian Mixture Model) is used to subtract the background by considering adaptively the various changes in the scenes, and the adaptive GMMs improving the real-time Performance were Proposed and worked. This paper, for on-line background subtraction, employed the improved adaptive GMM, which uses the small constant for learning rate a and is not able to speedily adapt the suddenly movement of objects, So, this paper Proposed and evaluated the dynamic control method of a using the adaptive selection of the number of component distributions and the global variances of pixel values.

  • A real-time detection and tracking of moving objects in video sequences is very important for smart surveillance systems. In this paper, we propose a novel algorithm for the detection of moving objects that is the entropy-based adaptive Gaussian mixture model (AGMM). First, the increment of entropy generally means the increment of complexity, and objects in unstable conditions cause higher entropy variations. Hence, if we apply these properties to the motion segmentation, pixels with large changes in entropy in moments have a higher chance in belonging to moving objects. Therefore, we apply the Clausius entropy theory to convert the pixel value in an image domain into the amount of energy change in an entropy domain. Second, we use an adaptive background subtraction method to detect moving objects. This models entropy variations from backgrounds as a mixture of Gaussians. Experiment results demonstrate that our method can detect motion object effectively and reliably.

  • In this paper, we proposed a method which corresponds people under the structured spaces with multiple cameras. The correspondence takes an important role for using multiple camera system. For solving this correspondence, the proposed method consists of three main steps. Firstly, moving objects are detected by background subtraction using a multiple background model. The temporal difference is simultaneously used to reduce a noise in the temporal change. When more than two people are detected, those detected regions are divided into each label to represent an individual person. Secondly, the detected region is segmented as features for correspondence by a criterion with the color distribution and context information of human body. The segmented region is represented as a set of blobs. Each blob is described as Gaussian probability distribution, i.e., a person model is generated from the blobs as a Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM). Finally, a GMM of each person from a camera is matched with the model of other people from different cameras by maximum likelihood. From those results, we identify a same person in different view. The experiment was performed according to three scenarios and verified the performance in qualitative and quantitative results.

  • Due to the recursive updating nature of background model, previous background modeling methods are often perturbed by crowd scenes where foreground pixels occurs more frequently than background pixels. To resolve this problem, an adaptive background modeling method, which is based on the well-known Gaussian mixture background model, is proposed. In the proposed method, the learning rate of background model is adaptively adjusted with respect to the crowdedness of the scene. Consequently, the learning process is suppressed in crowded scene to maintain proper background model. Experiments on real dataset revealed that the proposed method could perform background subtraction effectively even in crowd situation while the performance is almost the same to the previous method in normal scenes. Also, the F-measure was increased by 5-10% compared to the previous background modeling methods in the video of crowded situations.

  • Biplot is a useful graphical method to simultaneously explore the rows and columns of a two-way data matrix. In particular, principal component factor biplot is a graphical method to describe the interrelationship among many variables in terms of a few underlying but unobservable random variables called factors. If we consider the unobservable variables (which are mutually independent and also non-Gaussian), we can apply the independent component analysis decomposing a mixture of non-Gaussian in its independent components. In this case, if we apply the principal component factor analysis, we cannot clearly describe the interrelationship among many variables. Therefore, in this study, we apply the independent component analysis of Jutten and Herault (1991) decomposing a mixture of non-Gaussian in its independent components. We suggest an independent component biplot to interpret the independent component analysis graphically.

  • This paper presents the area classification, identification, and tracking for multiple moving objects with the similar colors. To do this, first, we use the GMM(Gaussian Mixture Model)-based background modeling method to detect the moving objects. Second, we propose the use of the binary and morphology of image in order to eliminate the shadow and noise in case of detection of the moving object. Third, we recognize ROI(region of interest) of the moving object through labeling method. And, we propose the area classification method to remove the background from the detected moving objects and the novel method for identifying the classified moving area. Also, we propose the method for tracking the identified moving object using Kalman filter. To the end, we propose the effective tracking method when detecting the multiple objects with the similar colors. Finally, we demonstrate the feasibility and applicability of the proposed algorithms through some experiments.
