The current 'standard model' of cosmology provides a minimal theoretical framework that can explain the gaussian, nearly scale-invariant density perturbations observed in the CMB to the late time clustering of galaxies. However accepting this framework, requires that we include within our cosmic inventory a vacuum energy that is ~122 orders of magnitude lower than Quantum Mechanical predictions, or alternatively a new scalar field (dark energy) that has negative pressure. An alternative approach to adding extra components to the Universe would be to modify the equations of Gravity. Although GR is supported by many current observations there are still alternative models that can be considered. Recently there have been many works attempting to test for modified gravity using the large scale clustering of galaxies, ISW, cluster abundance, RSD, 21cm observations, and weak lensing. In this work, we compare various modified gravity models using cosmic shear data from the Deep Lens Survey as well as data from CMB, SNe Ia, and BAO. We use the Bayesian Evidence to quantify the comparison robustly, which naturally penalizes complex models with weak data support. In this talk we present our methodology and preliminary results that show f(R) gravity is mildly disfavoured by the data.

In response to the increased use of digital video device, more researches are actively made on the image processing technologies. Image processing is practically used on various applied fields such as medical photographic interpretation, and object recognition. The types of image noise include Gaussian Noise, Impulse Noise, and Salt and Pepper. Noise refers to the unnecessary information which damages the video and the noise is mainly removed by a filter. Typical noise removal methods are Median Filter and Average Filter. While Median Filter is effective for removing Salt and Pepper noise, the noise removal performance is relatively lower in the environment with high noise density. To address such issue, this study suggested an algorithm which utilizes neighboring pixels to remove noise.
The o-Vanillin - Glutamine Schiff base [2-Hydroxy-3-Methoxy BenzylidineCarbomyl) -2-Butanoic Acid] was examined for low carbon steel corrosion inhibition in acid media. Weight loss studies were carried out at three different temperatures to determine the inhibition efficiency (IE). Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy revealed that the charge transfer resistance controlled the corrosion reaction and Tafel polarization indicated that the Schiff base acts as mixed mode of inhibitor. SEM images were recorded for the surface morphology of the low carbon steel surface. DFT studies revealed corrosion control mechanisms using quantum chemical parameters such as EHOMO, ELUMO, energy gap (∆E), chemical Hardness (η), chemical Softness (σ), Electronegativity (χ), and the fraction of electron transferred (∆N), which is calculated using Gaussian software 09. The gas-phase geometry was fully optimized in the Density Functional Theory (DFT/B3LYP-6-31G (d)).The DFT results are in good agreement with the experimental results. All the results proved that the Schiff Base (2-Hydroxy-3-Metoxy BenzylidineCarbomyl) -2-Butanoic is a suitable alternative for corrosion inhibition of low carbon steel in acid media.

We perform disk-halo decomposition of the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) using a novel HI velocity field extraction method, aimed at better deriving its HI kinematics and thus mass distribution in the galaxy including both baryons and dark matter. We decompose all the line-of-sight velocity profiles of the combined HI data cube of the LMC, taken from the Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA) and Parkes radio telescopes with an optimal number of Gaussian components. For this, we use a novel tool, the so-called BAYGAUD which performs profile decomposition based on Bayesian MCMC techniques. From this, we disentangle turbulent non-ordered HI gas motions from the decomposed gas components, and produce an HI bulk velocity field which better follows the global circular rotation of the galaxy. From a 2D tilted-ring analysis of the HI bulk velocity field, we derive the rotation curve of the LMC after correcting for its transverse, nutation and precession motions. The dynamical contributions of baryons like stars and gaseous components which are derived using the Spitzer 3.6 micron image and the HI data are then subtracted from the total kinematics of the LMC. Here, we present the bulk HI rotation curve, the mass models of stars and gaseous components, and the resulting dark matter density profile of the LMC.

We perform disk-halo decomposition of the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) using a novel HI velocity field extraction method, aimed at better deriving its HI kinematics and thus the dark matter density profile. For this, we use two newly developed galaxy kinematic analysis tools, BAYGAUD and 2DBAT which have been used for the kinematic analysis of resolved galaxies from Australian Square Kilometre Array (ASKAP) observations like WALLABY which is an all-sky HI galaxy survey in southern sky. By applying BAYGAUD to the combined HI data cube of the LMC taken with the Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA) and Parkes radio telescopes, we decompose all the line-of-sight velocity profiles into an optimal number of Gaussian components based on Bayesian MCMC techniques. From this, we disentangle turbulent non-circular gas motions from the overall rotation of the galaxy. We then derive the rotation curve of the LMC by applying 2DBAT to the separated circular motions. The rotation curve reflecting the total kinematics of the LMC, dark and baryonic matters is then be combined with the mass models of baryons, mainly stellar and gaseous components in order to examine the dark matter distribution. Here, we present the analysis of the extracted HI gas maps, rotation curve, and J, H and K-band surface photometry of the LMC.
The gust factor and turbulence intensity are two crucial parameters that characterize the properties of turbulence. In tropical cyclones (TCs), these parameters exhibit significant variability, yet there is a lack of established formulas to account for their probabilistic characteristics with consideration of their inherent connection. On this condition, a probabilistic analysis of gust factors and turbulence intensities of TCs is conducted based on fourteen sets of wind data collected at the Sutong Cable-stayed Bridge site. Initially, the turbulence intensities and gust factors of recorded data are computed, followed by an analysis of their probability densities across different ranges categorized by mean wind speed. The Gaussian, lognormal, and generalized extreme value (GEV) distributions are employed to fit the measured probability densities, with subsequent evaluation of their effectiveness. The Gumbel distribution, which is a specific instance of the GEV distribution, has been identified as an optimal choice for probabilistic characterizations of turbulence intensity and gust factor in TCs. The corresponding empirical models are then established through curve fitting. By utilizing the Gumbel distribution as a template, the nexus between the probability density functions of turbulence intensity and gust factor is built, leading to the development of a generalized probabilistic model that statistically describe turbulence intensity and gust factor in TCs. Finally, these empirical models are validated using measured data and compared with suggestions recommended by specifications.
The accuracy and uniformity of CT numbers are the main causes of radiation dose calculation error. Especially, for the dose calculation based on kV-Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) image, the scatter affecting the CT number is known to be quite different by the object sizes, densities, exposure conditions, and so on. In this study, the scatter impact on the CBCT based dose calculation was evaluated to provide the optimal condition minimizing the error. The CBCT images was acquired under three scatter conditions ("Under-scatter", "Over-scatter", and "Full-scatter") by adjusting amount of scatter materials around a electron density phantom (CIRS062, Tissue Simulation Technology, Norfolk, VA, USA). The CT number uniformities of CBCT images for water-equivalent materials of the phantom were assessed, and the location dependency, either "inner" or "outer" parts of the phantom, was also evaluated. The electron density correction curves were derived from CBCT images of the electron density phantom in each scatter condition. The electron density correction curves were applied to calculate the CBCT based doses, which were compared with the dose based on Fan Beam Computed Tomography (FBCT). Also, 5 prostate IMRT cases were enrolled to assess the accuracy of dose based on CBCT images using gamma index analysis and relative dose differences. As the CT number histogram of phantom CBCT images for water equivalent materials was fitted with a gaussian function, the FHWM (146 HU) for "Full-scatter" condition was the smallest among the FHWM for the three conditions (685 HU for "under scatter" and 264 HU for "over scatter"). Also, the variance of CT numbers was the smallest for the same ingredients located in the center and periphery of the phantom in the "Full-scatter" condition. The dose distributions calculated with FBCT and CBCT images compared in a gamma index evaluation of 1%/3 mm criteria and in the dose difference. With the electron density correction acquired in the same scatter condition, the CBCT based dose calculations tended to be the most accurate. In 5 prostate cases in which the mean equivalent diameter was 27.2 cm, the averaged gamma pass rate was 98% and the dose difference confirmed to be less than 2% (average 0.2%, ranged from -1.3% to 1.6%) with the electron density correction of the "Full-scatter" condition. The accuracy of CBCT based dose calculation could be confirmed that closely related to the CT number uniformity and to the similarity of the scatter conditions for the electron density correction curve and CBCT image. In pelvic cases, the most accurate dose calculation was achievable in the application of the electron density curves of the "Full-scatter" condition.
3-D ore modeling was performed to understand the configuration of ore bodies by integrated analysis of borehole and geophysical data in iron-mine area. Five representative indices of rocks were designated, which were obtained from geological survey and borehole. The five indices of rocks were geostatistically simulated by Sequential Indicator Simulation method to delineate boundary of the ore bodies. And Ordinary Kriging and Sequential Gaussian Simulation was applied to make secondary information using resistivity data from magnetotellurics and DC resistivity survey, and this information was used for simple kriging with local varying means, one of integrated kriging techniques. From the correlation analysis between each properties, it was found that high grade of ore is characterized by increased density, whereas the electrical resistivity decreases. With the integrated results of geophysical and borehole data, it was also found that the real configuration of ore body was similar to the modeled result and information about ore grade in 3-D space was obtained.

The purpose of this study is to detect and label the vehicles using the drone images as a way to overcome the limitation of the existing point and section detection system and vehicle gap estimation on Arterial road. In order to select the appropriate time zone, position, and altitude for the acquisition of the drone image data, the final image data was acquired by shooting under various conditions. The vehicle was detected by applying mixed Gaussian, image binarization and morphology among various image analysis techniques, and the vehicle was labeled by applying Kalman filter. As a result of the labeling rate analysis, it was confirmed that the vehicle labeling rate is 65% by detecting 185 out of 285 vehicles. The gap was calculated by pixel unitization, and the results were verified through comparison and analysis with Daum maps. As a result, the gap error was less than 5m and the mean error was 1.67m with the preceding vehicle and 1.1m with the following vehicle. The gaps estimated in this study can be used as the density of the urban roads and the criteria for judging the service level.
