A diffusion coefficient is an important parameter in the prediction of atmospheric dispersion using a Gaussian plume model, and its modelling approach varies. In this study, dispersion coefficients recommended by the U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission's (U. S. NRC's) regulatory guide and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission's (CNSC's) regulatory guide, and used in probabilistic accident consequence analysis codes MACCS and MACCS2 have been investigated. Based on the atmospheric dispersion model for a hypothetical accidental release recommended by the U. S. NRC, its influence to atmospheric dispersion factor was discussed. It was found that diffusion coefficients are basically predicted from a Pasquill- Gifford curve, but various curve fitting equations are recommended or used. A lateral dispersion coefficient is corrected with consideration for the additional spread due to plume meandering in all models, however its modelling approach showed a distinctive difference. Moreover, a vertical dispersion coefficient is corrected with consideration for the additional plume spread due to surface roughness in all models, except for the U. S. NRC's recommendation. For a specified surface roughness, the atmospheric dispersion factors showed differences up to approximately 4 times depending on the modelling approach of a dispersion coefficient. For the same model, the atmospheric dispersion factors showed differences by 2 to 3 times depending on surface roughness.

This paper analyzes the effectiveness of minimizing vibration and sound transmission on/through a thin rectangular plate by both feedback control and hybrid control which combines adaptive feedforward control with a feedback loop. An experimental system identification technique using the matrix-fractional curve-fitting of the frequency response data is introduced for complex shaped structures. This identification technique reduces the model order o the MIMO(Multi-Input Multi-Output) system which simplifies the practical implementation. The adaptive feedforward control uses a Multiple filtered-x LMS(Least Mean Square) algorithm and the feedback control uses a multivariable digital LQG(Linear Quadratic Gaussian) algorithm. Experimental results show that an effective reduction of sound transmission is achieved by the hybrid control scheme when both vibration and noise measurement signals are incorporated in the controller.

In this paper, we fabricated angle-changable two-stage reflectors and measured the illuminance as a function of the angle of reflection plates. The illuminance of center areas could be controlled by changing the angle of upper reflection plates and the illuminated area expanded with reducing the angle of lower reflection plates. The bright spots could be moved using asymmetric structures of reflection plates. It was found that the distribution of illuminance matches well with the Gaussian distribution function. From the results of curve fitting, it was found that without reflectors, a half of the lights emitted from fluorescent lamp do not reach the working place. A simple model was suggested to explain the illuminance variation with the structure of reflector.
Infrared absorption spectra of 9 bulk samples and 3 acid residues of meteorites were obtained in the mid-infrared region ($4000~400cm^{-1}$). From the know composition of meteorites studied, the possible absorption modes were investigated. Most bands of bulk samples occur in the region below $1200cm^{-1}$ and they are due to metallic oxides and silicates. The spectra of each group can be distinguished by its own characteristic bands. Acid residues show very distinct features from their bulk samples, and absorp-tion bands due to organic compounds are not evident in their spectra. Quantiative analyses for two carbonaceous (Allende CV3 and Murchison CM2) and one ordinary (Carraweena L3.9) chondrites were performed for the presence of fullerene ($C_{60}$) in the meteorites. We calculated the concentration of $C_{60}$ in the acid residues by curve-fitting the spectra with Gaussian functions. The upper limit of $C_{60}$ concentration in these meteorites appears to be less than an order of a few hundred ppm.
The electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) of the $Eu^{2+}$ ion in $SrCl_2$:Eu single crystal has been investigated using an X-band spectrometer. The angular dependence of magnetic resonance positions for the $Eu^{2+}$ impurity ion in the crystallographic aa-plane is analyzed with effective spin-Hamiltonian. The EPR spectra of the isolated $Eu^{2+}$ center merged to each other. The hyperfine splitting of the isolated $Eu^{2+}$ center due to the $^{151}Eu$ nucleus is approximately 35 G. Three kinds of $Eu^{2+}$ centers except the isolated $Eu^{2+}$ center, $Eu^{2+}$ pairs, $Eu^{2+}$ triples, and other $Eu^{2+}$ clusters, are split from the fitting of the integrated experimental spectrum with the Gaussian curve. The calculated spectroscopic splitting parameters of the $Eu^{2+}$ pairs, $Eu^{2+}$ triples, and other $Eu^{2+}$ clusters in $SrCl_2$:Eu crystal are $g_1$ = 2.06, $g_2$ = 1.94, and $g_3$ = 1.93, respectively.
The gust factor and turbulence intensity are two crucial parameters that characterize the properties of turbulence. In tropical cyclones (TCs), these parameters exhibit significant variability, yet there is a lack of established formulas to account for their probabilistic characteristics with consideration of their inherent connection. On this condition, a probabilistic analysis of gust factors and turbulence intensities of TCs is conducted based on fourteen sets of wind data collected at the Sutong Cable-stayed Bridge site. Initially, the turbulence intensities and gust factors of recorded data are computed, followed by an analysis of their probability densities across different ranges categorized by mean wind speed. The Gaussian, lognormal, and generalized extreme value (GEV) distributions are employed to fit the measured probability densities, with subsequent evaluation of their effectiveness. The Gumbel distribution, which is a specific instance of the GEV distribution, has been identified as an optimal choice for probabilistic characterizations of turbulence intensity and gust factor in TCs. The corresponding empirical models are then established through curve fitting. By utilizing the Gumbel distribution as a template, the nexus between the probability density functions of turbulence intensity and gust factor is built, leading to the development of a generalized probabilistic model that statistically describe turbulence intensity and gust factor in TCs. Finally, these empirical models are validated using measured data and compared with suggestions recommended by specifications.

In this paper, we proposed a method of baseline correction for analysis of Raman spectra of platelets from Alzheimer's disease (AD) transgenic mice. Measured Raman spectra include the meaningful information and unnecessary noise which is composed of baseline and additive noise. The Raman spectrum is divided into the local region including several peaks and the spectrum of the region is modeled by curve fitting using Gaussian model. The additive noise is clearly removed from the process of replacing the original spectrum with the fitted model. The baseline correction after interpolating the local minima of the fitted model with linear, piecewise cubic Hermite and cubic spline algorithm. The baseline corrected models extract the feature with principal component analysis (PCA). The classification result of support vector machine (SVM) and maximum $a$ posteriori probability (MAP) using linear interpolation method showed the good performance about overall number of principal components, especially SVM gave the best performance which is about 97.3% true classification average rate in case of piecewise cubic Hermite algorithm and 5 principal components. In addition, it confirmed that the proposed baseline correction method compared with the previous research result could be effectively applied in the analysis of the Raman spectra of platelet.
DLC films were deposited using the ECR-PECVD method with the fixed deposition condition, such as ECR power, methane and hydrogen gas-flow rates and deposition time, for various substrate bias voltage. We have investigated the ion bombardment effect induced by the substrate bias voltage on films during the deposition of film. The characteristic of the films were analyzed using the FTIR, Raman, and UV/Vis spectroscopy analysis shows that the amount of dehydrogenation in films was increased with the increase of substrate bias voltage and films thickness was decreased. Raman scattering analysis shows that integrated intensity ratio(ID/IG) of the D and G peak was increased as the substrate bias voltage increased and films hardness was increased. Optical transmittances of DLC film were decreased with increasing deposition time and substrate bias voltage. From these results, it can be concluded that films deposited at this experimental have the enhanced characteristics of DLC because of the ion bombardment effect on films during the deposition of film.
DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) films were deposited by ECR-PECVD (electron cyclotron resonance plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition) method with the variation of substrate bias voltage under the others are constant except it. We have investigated the ion bombardment effect induced by the substrate bias voltage on films during the deposition of film. The characteristics of the film were analyzed using the Dektak surface profiler, SEM, FTIR spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy and Nano Indentation tester. FTIR spectroscopy analysis shows that the amount of dehydrogenation in films was increased with the increase of substrate bias voltage and films thickness was decreased. Raman scattering analysis shows that integrated intensity ratio $(I_D /I_G)$ of the D and G peak was increased as the substrate bias voltage increased, and films hardness was increased. From these results, it can be concluded that films deposited at this experimental have the enhanced characteristics of DLC because of the ion bombardment effect on films during the deposition of film.

Hydrogenated amorphous carbon films were deposited by ERC-PECVD with deposition conditions, such as ECR power, gas composition of methane and hydrogen, deposition time, and substrate bias voltage. The characteristics of the film were analyzed using the AES, ERDA, FTIR. Raman spectroscopy and micro hardness tester. From the results of AES and ERDA, the elements in the deposited film were confirmed as carbon and hydrogen atoms. FTIR spectroscopy analysis shows that the atomic bonding structure of a-C:H film consisted of sp³and sp²bonding, most of which is composed of sp³bonding. The structure of the a-C:H films changed from CH₃bonding to CH₂or CH bonding as deposition time increased. We also found that the amount of dehydrogenation in a-C:H films was increased as the bias voltage increased. Raman scattering analysis shows that integrated intensity ratio (I/sub D//I/sub G/) of the D and G peak was increased as the substrate bias voltage increased, and films hardness was increased.
