  • In this paper, the optimization of fuzzy inference systems is proposed for fuzzy model of nonlinear systems. A fuzzy model needs to be identified and optimized by means of the definite and systematic methods, because a fuzzy model is primarily acquired by expert's experience. The proposed rule-based fuzzy model implements system structure and parameter identification using the HCM(Hard C-mean) clustering method, genetic algorithms and fuzzy inference method. Two types of inference methods of a fuzzy model are the simplified inference and linear inference. in this paper, nonlinear systems are expressed using the identification of structure such as input variables and the division of fuzzy input subspaces, and the identification of parameters of a fuzzy model. To identify premise parameters of fuzzy model, the genetic algorithms is used and the standard least square method with the gaussian elimination method is utilized for the identification of optimum consequence parameters of fuzzy model. Also, the performance index with weighting factor is proposed to achieve a balance between the performance results of fuzzy model produced for the training and testing data set, and it leads to enhance approximation and predictive performance of fuzzy system. Time series data for gas furnace and sewage treatment process are used to evaluate the performance of the proposed model.

  • While the standard linear-quadratic-Gaussian problem has fixed horizons, this paper considers the LQG problem with moving horizons. By the separation principle the solution will be given by the kalman filter with the approaching horizon and the LQ regulator with the receding horizon. Sufficient conditions on weighting matrices are derived under which the filter and regulator are asymptotically stable. It wall be shown that the computation method of the moving-horizon LQG regulators is better than that of the standard LQG regulator. The performance measure between the two optimal controls will be compared. A simulation result is given in order to show the usefulness of the moving-horizon LQG regulator.s

  • It has been known that GMM (Gaussian Mixture Model) based speaker identification systems using ML (Maximum Likelihood) and WMR (Weighting Model Rank) demonstrate very high performances. However, such systems are not so effective under practical environments, in terms of real time processing, because of their high calculation costs. In this paper, we propose a new speaker-pruning algorithm that effectively reduces the calculation cost. In this algorithm, we select 20% of speaker models having higher likelihood with a part of input speech and apply MWMR (Modified Weighted Model Rank) to these selected speaker models to find out identified speaker. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, we performed speaker identification experiments using TIMIT database. The proposed method shows more than 60% improvement of reduced processing time than the conventional GMM based system with no pruning, while maintaining the recognition accuracy.

  • Multimedia is a ubiquitous and indispensable part of our daily life and learning such as audio, image, and video. Objective and subjective quality evaluations play an important role in various multimedia applications. Blind image quality assessment (BIQA) is used to indicate the perceptual quality of a distorted image, while its reference image is not considered and used. Blur is one of the common image distortions. In this paper, we propose a novel BIQA index for Gaussian blur distortion based on the fact that images with different blur degree will have different changes through the same blur. We describe this discrimination from three aspects: color, edge, and structure. For color, we adopt color histogram; for edge, we use edge intensity map, and saliency map is used as the weighting function to be consistent with human visual system (HVS); for structure, we use structure tensor and structural similarity (SSIM) index. Numerous experiments based on four benchmark databases show that our proposed index is highly consistent with the subjective quality assessment.

  • In this paper, we propose a speaker pruning method for real-time processing and improving performance of speaker identification system based on GMM(Gaussian Mixture Model). Conventional speaker identification methods, such as ML (Maximum Likelihood), WMR(weighting Model Rank), and MWMR(Modified WMR) we that frame likelihoods are calculated using the whole frames of each input speech and all of the speaker models and then a speaker having the biggest accumulated likelihood is selected. However, in these methods, calculation cost and processing time become larger as the increase of the number of input frames and speakers. To solve this problem in the proposed method, only a part of speaker models that have higher likelihood are selected using only a part of input frames, and identified speaker is decided from evaluating the selected speaker models. In this method, fm can be applied for improving the identification performance in speaker identification even the number of speakers is changed. In several experiments, the proposed method showed a reduction of 65% on calculation cost and an increase of 2% on identification rate than conventional methods. These results means that the proposed method can be applied effectively for a real-time processing and for improvement of performance in speaker identification.

  • Recently, the image processing is utilized in various fields and many studies on the image restoration have been carried out in order to remove the noise occurring in the process of data transmission, processing and storage. There are many types of noises added to the image according to the cause and shape, and AWGN(additive white Gaussian noise) is one of typical noises. This paper proposed an algorithm which applies the weighting of filter differently according to the standard deviation in order to alleviate AWGN added to the image, and compared this algorithm with the current methods using PSNR(peak signal to noise ratio) as a criterion of judgment.

  • In this paper, a fast single image blind denoising algorithm is presented, where noise parameters are estimated by local statistics of an observed degraded image without a prior information about the additive noise. The estimated noise parameters are used to define the constraints on the noise detection which is coupled with the 1st-order Markov Random Field. In addition, an adaptive modified weighted Gaussian filter is introduced, where variable window sizes and weighting coefficients defined by the constraints are used to control the degree of the smoothness of the reconstructed image. The experimental results demonstrate the capability of the proposed algorithm. Please put the abstract of paper here.

  • A Principal component analysis (PCA)-based Mel-Frequency Discrete Wavelet Coefficients (MFDWC) feature Parameters for speaker verification system is Presented in this Paper In this method, we used the 1st-eigenvector obtained from PCA to calculate the energy of each node of level that was approximated by. met-scale. This eigenvector satisfies the constraint of general weighting function that the squared sum of each component of weighting function is unity and is considered to represent speaker's characteristic closely because the 1st-eigenvector of each speaker is fairly different from the others. For verification. we used Universal Background Model (UBM) approach that compares claimed speaker s model with UBM on frame-level. We performed experiments to test the effectiveness of PCA-based parameter and found that our Proposed Parameters could obtain improved average Performance of $0.80\%$compared to MFCC. $5.14\%$ to LPCC and 6.69 to existing MFDWC.

  • Speaker verification determines whether the claimed speaker is accepted based on the score of the test utterance. In recent years, methods based on Gaussian mixture models and universal background model have been the dominant approaches for text-independent speaker verification. These speaker verification systems based on these methods provide very good performance under laboratory conditions. However, in real situations, the performance of speaker verification system is degraded dramatically. For overcoming this performance degradation, the feature recombination method was proposed, but this method had a drawback that whole sub-band feature vectors are used to compute the likelihood scores. To deal with this drawback, a modified feature recombination method which can use each sub-band likelihood score independently was proposed in our previous research. In this paper, we propose a sub-band weighting method based on sub-band signal-to-noise ratio which is combined with previously proposed modified feature recombination. This proposed method reduces errors by 28% compared with the conventional feature recombination method.

  • In this study, dynamic characteristics of an end-capped hull structure with surface bonded piezoelectric actuators are studied. Finite element modeling is used to obtain practical governing equation of motion and boundary conditions of smart hull structure. Modal analysis is conducted to investigate the dynamic characteristics of the hull structure. Piezoelectric actuators are attached where the maximum control performance can be obtained. Active controller based on Linear Quadratic Gaussian (LQG) theory is designed to suppress vibration of smart hull structure. It is observed that closed loop damping can be improved with suitable weighting factors in the developed LQG controller.
