The stochastic nonlinear dynamic behavior and probability density function of ship rolling are studied using the nonlinear dynamical systems approach and probability theory. The probability density function of the rolling response is evaluated through solving the Fokker Planck Equation using the path integral method based on a Gauss-Legendre interpolation scheme. The time-dependent probability of ship rolling restricted to within the safe domain is provided and capsizing is investigated from the probability point of view. The random differential equation of ships' rolling motion is established considering the nonlinear damping, nonlinear restoring moment, white noise and colored noise wave excitation.
The receding contact problem for two elastic layers whose elastic constants and heights are different supported by two elastic quarter planes is considered. The lower layer is supported by two elastic quarter planes and the upper elastic layer is subjected to symmetrical distributed load whose heights are 2a on its top surface. It is assumed that the contact between all surfaces is frictionless and the effect of gravity force is neglected. The problem is formulated and solved by using Theory of Elasticity and Integral Transform Technique. The problem is reduced to a system of singular integral equations in which contact pressures are the unknown functions by using integral transform technique and boundary conditions of the problem. Stresses and displacements are expressed depending on the contact pressures using Fourier and Mellin formula technique. The singular integral equation is solved numerically by using Gauss-Jacobi integration formulation. Numerical results are obtained for various dimensionless quantities for the contact pressures and the contact areas are presented in graphics and tables.
We have calculated the astronomical almanac 1994 and simulated the trajectory of a satellite orbit considering all perturbative forces with various initial conditions. In this work, Gauss Jackson multistep integration method has been used to calculate our basic equation of motion with high numerical accuracy. It has beer. found that our results agree well with the Astronomical Almanac Data distributed by JPL of NASA and the orbit simulations have been carried out with fast speed, stability and excellent round-off error accumulation, comparing with other numerical methods. In order to be carried out our works on almanac and orbit calculations easily by anyone who uses a personal computer, we have made a computer program on graphical user interface to provide various menus for detail works selected by a mouse.
Free vibration analysis of plates and shells is carried out by using isogeometric approach. For this purpose, an isogeometric shell element based on Reissner-Mindlin (RM) shell theory is developed. Non-uniform rational B-spline surface (NURBS) definition is introduced to represent the geometry of shell and it is also used to derive all terms required in the isogeometric element formulation. New anchor positions are proposed to calculate the shell normal vector. Gauss integration rule is used for the formation of stiffness and mass matrices. The proposed shell element is then used to examine vibrational behaviours of plate and shell structures. From numerical results, it is found to be that reliable natural frequencies and associated mode shapes can be predicted by the present isogeometric RM shell element.
In this study, we adopt the point symmetric Gauss-Seidel relaxation algorithm to obtain the steady state solution of the Navier-Stokes equations for the thermal and chemical nonequilibrium flow of air. All of the inviscid, viscous flux Jacobians and thermochemical source Jacobians are included in the implicit part Numerical simulation is performed for the thermal and chemical nonequilibrium flow over blunt body and computational results are presented. The convergence history and CPU time of the present computation are compared with the LU-SGS scheme which employs the approximate Jacobians.
An aerodynamic calculation in hover of KUH main rotor blade is performed using a three-dimensional unstructured hybrid mesh viscous flow solver. The flow solver utilizes a vertex-centered finite-volume scheme that is based on the Roe's flux-difference splitting with an implicit Jacobi/Gauss-Seidel time integration. The eddy viscosity are estimated by the Spalart-Allmaras one-equation turbulence model. A solution-adaptive mesh refinement technique is used for efficient capturing of the tip vortex. Calculations are performed at several operating conditions with varying collective pitch setting for KUH main rotor blade in hover. Good agreements are obtained between the present and other results using HOST and CAMRAD II in overall rotor performance. It is demonstrated that the present vertex-centered flow solver is an efficient and accurate tool for the assessment of rotor performance in hover.
An implicit viscous turbulent flow solver is developed for two-dimensional geometries on unstructured triangular meshes. The flux terms are discretized based on a cell-centered finite-volume formulation with the Roe's flux-difference splitting. The solution is advanced in time using an implicit backward-Euler time-stepping scheme. At each time step, the linear system of equations is approximately solved with the Gauss-Seidel relaxation scheme. The effect of turbulence effects is approximated with a standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ two-equation model which is solved separately from the mean flow equations using the same backward-Euler time integration scheme. The triangular meshes are generated using an advancing-front/layer technique. Validations are made for flows over the NACA0012 airfoil and the Douglas 3-element airfoil. Good agreements are obtained between the numerical results and the experiment.
In this paper, a Petrov-Galerkin natural element method (PG-NEM) based upon the natural neighbor concept is presented for the free vibration and dynamic response analyses of two-dimensional linear elastic structures. A problem domain is discretized with a finite number of nodes and the trial basis functions are defined with the help of the Voronoi diagram. Meanwhile, the test basis functions are supported by Delaunay triangles for the accurate and easy numerical integration with the conventional Gauss quadrature rule. The numerical accuracy and stability of the proposed method are verified through illustrative numerical tests.
There are many theoretical investigations to analyze higher order mode of reactive type single expansion chambers with offset inlet/outlet locations. But the conventional method has the restriction that the ratio between the area of inlet(or outlet) pipe and that of chamber must be natural number. In the paper, a new method was suggested to apply the Kim's method to silencer with circular cross-section. Not only the offset location but also the magnitude of cross-section area of inlet/outlet pipe can be considered by the suggested method. The predictions by this new method also compared with those by the finite element method and Munjal's method in order to verify the accuracy of the suggested method presented here.

When the stagnation temperature of the combustion chamber or ambient air increases, the specific heats and their ratio do not remain constant any more, and start to vary with this temperature. The gas remains perfect, except, it will be calorically imperfect and thermally perfect. A new generalized form of the Prandtl Meyer function is developed, by adding the effect of variation of this temperature, lower than the threshold of dissociation. The new relation is presented in the form of integral of a complex analytical function, having an infinite derivative at the critical temperature. A robust numerical integration quadrature is presented in this context. The classical form of the Prandtl Meyer function of a perfect gas becomes a particular case of the developed form. The comparison is made with the perfect gas model for aim to present a limit of its application. The application is for air.
