This paper describes the modeling of CNG direct injection using gaseous sphere injection model. Simulation of CNG direct injection does not need break up and evaporation model compared to that of liquid fuel injection. And very fine mesh is needed near the injector nozzle to resolve the inflow boundary. Therefore it takes long computation time for gaseous fuel injection simulation. However, simulation of CNG direct injection could be performed with the coarse mesh using gaseous sphere injection model. This model was integrated in KIVA-3V code and RNG $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model needs to be modified because this model tends to over-predict gas jet diffusion. Furthermore, we preformed experiments of gaseous fuel injection using PLIF (planar laser induced fluorescence)method. Gaseous fuel injection model was validated against experiment data. The simulation results agreed well with the experiment results. Therefore gaseous sphere injection model has the reliability about gaseous fuel direct injection. And this model was predicted well a general tendency of gaseous fuel injection.
Unlike rigid objects, the edge intensity of a gaseous object is various along the object boundary (edge intensities of some pixels on a gaseous object boundary are weaker than those of small rigid objects or noise itself). Therefore, the conventional edge detectors may not adequately detect boundary-like edge pixels for gaseous objects. In this paper A new methodology for segmenting gaseous object images is introduced. Proposed method consists of fuzzy-based boundary detector applicable to gaseous as well as rigid objects and concave region filling to recover object regions.
This paper describes numerical study of combustion characteristics in CNG(compressed natural gas) DI(direct injection) engine using gaseous sphere injection model. Simulations were conducted using KIVA-3V Release 2 code. Gaseous sphere injection model, which is modified model of liquid fuel injection, was used to simulate the CNG direct injection. Until now, a very fine mesh smaller than the injector nozzle has been required to resolve the gas-jet inflow boundary. However, the gaseous sphere injection model simulates gaseous fuel injection using a coarse mesh. This model injects gaseous spheres as in liquid fuel injection and the gaseous spheres evaporate together without the latent heat of evaporation. Therefore, it does not require a very fine mesh and reduce calculation time. Combustion simulation were performed under various injection timings and injection pressures.
This paper has been studied an algorithm for segmenting gaseous object images. A new methodology for segmenting gaseous object images is introduced. Proposed method consists offuzzy-based boundary detector applicable to gaseous as well as rigid objects and concave region filling to recover object regions.
This study was performed to measure gaseous Organochlorine Pesticides (OCPs : heptachlor epoxide, ${\alpha}/{\gamma}-chlordane$, trans-nonachlor, endosulfan, ${\gamma}-HCH$ and p, p'-DDE) concentration using PUF high volume sampler from June, 2000 to June, 2002 in the semi-rural atmosphere. Using monitoring data for two years, we tried to investigate the annual cycles of gaseous OCPs. We considered three functions to describe the annual cycle: Gaussian, Lorentzian and sinusoidal functions. These functions accounted for $54{\sim}91%$ of the variability in concentration for each gaseous OCPs, and the sinusoidal function gave the best fits. It was seen that the gaseous OCPs concentration increased during the warmer weather while decreased during colder weather. The variation of the gaseous OCPs concentration was closely similar to the variations of ambient temperature. The annual cycle of endosulfan was strongly higher than in comparison with other gaseous OCPs, while for ${\gamma}-HCH$, the cycle was weakly high and did not show apparent seasonal variation. The position of the annual maximum exists generally late July to early August. The period that showed levels more than a half maximum was from late June to early September.
The hydrogen embrittlement of two austenitic high-manganese steels was investigated using tensile testing under high-pressure gaseous hydrogen. The test results were compared with those of different kinds of austenitic alloys containing Ni, Mn, and N in terms of stress and ductility. It was found that the ultimate tensile stress and ductility were more remarkably decreased under high-pressure gaseous hydrogen than under high-pressure gaseous argon, unlike the yield stress. In the specimens tested under high-pressure gaseous hydrogen, transgranular fractures were usually observed together with intergranular cracking near the fracture surface, whereas in those samples tested under high-pressure gaseous argon, ductile fractures mostly occurred. The austenitic high-manganese steels showed a relatively lower resistance to hydrogen embrittlement than did those with larger amounts of Ni because the formation of deformation twins or microbands in austenitic high-manganese steels probably promoted planar slip, which is associated with localized deformation due to gaseous hydrogen.
In this study, the air-fuel ratio(A/F) control characteristics of a liquid and a gaseous fueled engine are investigated. Engine models far both the liquid and the gaseous fueled engine are developed to compare the characteristics of fuel delivery into the cylinder, and the performances of the models are evaluated using the simulation and experiment. The simulation and experimental results show that the gaseous fueled engine has better control performance than that of the liquid fueled engine in terms of the air-fuel ratio control. This study could be used to develop air-fuel ratio control schemes for both the liquid and the gaseous fueled engine.
The gaseous fuel injection (GFI) type in LPG fuel supply system has more advantage than the liquified fuel injection type from the viewpoint of durability and cost reduction. But in GFI system, to control pressure and temperature of gaseous fuel is needed to get precision fuel metering for the compressible characteristic of gaseous fuel. In this study, the effects of pressure and temperature on the fuel metering was simulated by commercial flow network analysis package, Flowmaster. And the fuel composition effects on the fuel metering were also studied to figure out the fuel metering characteristics.
Highly accurate control of an air-fuel ratio is very important to reduce exhaust gas emissions of gaseous-fuel engines. In order to achieve this purpose, a precise engine model is required to estimate engine performance from the engine design process which is applied to the design of an engine controller. Engine dynamics are considered to develop a dynamic engine model of a gaseous-fuel engine. An effective air mass ratio is proposed to study variations of the engine dynamics according to the water vapor and the gaseous-fuel in the mixture. The dynamic engine model is validated with the LPG engine under steady and transient operating conditions. The experimental results in the LPG gaseous-fuel engine show that the estimation of the air flow and the air-fuel ratio based upon the effective air mass ratio is more accurate than that of a normal engine model.
Emission of ultrasonic vibration to turbulent flow promotes the turbulence generation due to the resonantly oscillating pressure field and thereby induced cavitation. In addition, ultrasonic vibration is well transmitted through water and not dissipated easily so that the micro-bubbles involved in the fluid induce the gaseous cavitation if the bubbles are resonated with the ultrasonic field. In the present study, we found through LDV measurement that the gaseous cavitation induced by ultrasonic vibration to CO$_2$saturated water flow in the rectangular cross-sectioned straight duct enhances turbulence much more than the case of non-ultrasonic or normal ultrasonic conditions without gaseous cavitation. We also found that the fluctuating velocity component induced by emitting the ultrasonic vibration in normal direction of a rectangular channel flow can be redistributed to stream-wise component by the agitation of gaseous cavitation.
