  • This paper presents the development of closing switch for high voltage and current in detail. Design concept of INPIStron triggered by the gas puffing, voltage hold-off, current capacity, insulating and electrode material, rise time etc, are described. Also for the dptimized design of the electrical triggering switch, pin, ring, wire brush, surface discharge and HCP(Hypo-Cycloidal Pinch) trigger are considered.

High Performance and Low Cost Single Switch Current-fed Energy Recovery Circuits for AC Plasma Display Panels

  • A high performance and low cost single switch current fed energy recovery circuit (ERC) for an alternating current (AC) plasma display panel (PDP) is proposed. Since it is composed of only one power switch compared with the conventional circuit consisting of four power switches and two large energy recovery capacitors, the ERC features a simpler structure and lower cost. Furthermore, since all power switches can be switched under soft switching operating conditions, the proposed circuit has desirable merits such as increased reliability and low switching loss. Specifically, there are no serious voltage notches across the PDP with the aid of gas discharge current compensation, which can greatly reduce the current stress of all inverter switches, and provide those switches with the turn on timing margin. To confirm the validity of proposed circuit, its operation and performance were verified on a prototype for 7-inch test PDP.

  • A damped sinusoidal electromagnetic pulse generator was designed, fabricated and tested. The pulse generator consisted of an oscillator(a spark gap switch and an initially charged low impedance line) and a high impedance antenna. This generator was capable of producing damped sinusoidal pulses at closure of the spark gap switch. A Marx generator was employed to supply the Pulse generator with high voltage pulses. While the pulse generator was provided with the high voltage pulses of 200kV from the Marx generator, its output power was maximized by controlling the pressure of the gas contained in the spark gap switch. The output power of the damped sinusoidal electromagnetic pulse oscillator was 1.3GW and the amplitude of electric field radiated from the pulse generator was 4kV/m at the range of 25m.

  • The bushing currently applied to pole-mounted type loadbreak switch has porcelain bushing which is connected with the mold cone. This type has potential problems of uncertainty of sealing of the interface part and gas leakage on the connected part between bushing and switch tank due to the weight of the porcelain. The Composite Bushing can solve these problems and also the secondary problem of the potential accident owing to the fragment of the porcelain bushing in breakage due to the outer impact.

  • In this paper, a double scotch yoke mechanism for moving simultaneously the fixed contact and moving contact of a gas circuit brake, is proposed and designed to improve the breaking characteristics of the circuit breaker. Firstly, the design parameters of the scotch yoke are kinematically determined from the desired design condition of the circuit breaker. Next, the stroke curve of the moving contact is designed by considering the design parameter and the specified opening characteristics of electric contacts. Based on the scotch yoke and stroke curve, the dynamics of the electric contacts is analyzed using ADAMS model of switch mechanism.

A Study on the Ignition Distance from a Leakage Point of the LP Gas Pipe (LP 가스 배관의 누출부로부터 점화가능 거리에 관한 연구)

  • The standards related to the "Urban Gas Business Act" and the "Safety Control and Business Regulation of Liquefied Petroleum Gas Act" prescribe the separation distance between gas piping joint excluding welded joints and electric equipments(electric switch, watt meter, breaker, connector, etc). The "Korea Electro technical Regulation" also prescribes the distance between gas piping joints and electric equipments in accordance with the gas related standards. In case of the standards related to the "Urban Gas Business Act", the distance criteria stipulated in the standard of supplying facilities are different from those stipulated in the standard of using facilities. In this study, we have conducted pilot test on the possible ignition distance from the piping joint when LP gas is leaked from the point. We have also examined the adequacy of current standards on the separation distance between gas piping joint and electric equipments. As a result of the tests, we have found that ignition is able to occur at a distance of 30 cm as stipulated in the current standards or more when LP gas is leaked from the joint of the pipe. Therefore, we have made a decision that the criteria for separation distance between gas piping joint and electric equipment specified in the current standards related to the "Urban Gas Business Act" and the "Safety Control and Business Regulation of Liquefied Petroleum Gas Act" is appropriate.

A Study on the Power and Smoke Characteristics for the Intake System Improvement using Air Conditioning System in a Diesel Vehicle (디젤 자동차의 에어컨 사용시 흡기계통 개선에 따른 출력 및 매연 특성에 관한 연구)

  • This study investigated the symptoms of the a reduction in output while driving on the road, or increasing of fumer out exhaust gas on inclined road while working air-conditioner in summer. Notice how the experiment in 2010, the Ministry of Environment(Chapter No. 2010-46), and how the vehicle emissions inspection was carried out. 2500cc Diesel cars used in the study were used and compare to output of engine, exhaust gas, inhalation temperature measurement Inhalation of cold air has not been supplied to all agencies when comparing the results when cold air intake temperature of the supply air-conditioning switch range control from 1 to 4, the temperature drops $98^{\circ}C$ to $78^{\circ}C$. At the momentum of switch level 4, output from 63ps to 66ps after the connection has increased 9.6 percent, the highest concentration of exhaust emissions were reduced by 42.8%. This research can contribute in part to the reduction of exhaust directly supply into the cooling air intake line, doing the output of diesel cars in the summer. In addition, construction equipment and machinery that are currently being used excluding the engine's intercooler cooling of the supply line via a separate output in the summer and help reduce exhaust emissions is expected.

  • In recent years, increasing electricity use has led to considerable interest in green energy. In order to effectively supply, cut off, and operate an electric power system, many electric power facilities such as gas insulation switch (GIS), cable, and large substation facilities with higher densities are being developed to meet demand. However, because of the increased use of aging electric power facilities, safety problems are emerging. Electromagnetic wave and leakage current detection are mainly used as sensing methods to detect live-line partial discharges. Although electromagnetic sensors are excellent at providing an initial diagnosis and very reliable, it is difficult to precisely determine the fault point, while leakage current sensors require a connection to the ground line and are very vulnerable to line noise. The partial discharge characteristic in particular is accompanied by statistical irregularity, and it has been reported that proper statistical processing of data is very important. Therefore, in this paper, we present the results of analyzing ${\Phi}-q-n$ cluster distributions of partial discharge characteristics by using K-means clustering to develop an expert partial discharge diagnosis system generated in a GIS facility.

Study of Seal-off Triggered Vacuum Switch(TVS) for High Voltage and High Current (고전압 대전류용, Seal-off TVS(Triggered Vacuum Switch) 연구)

  • The purpose of this experiment was to develope Triggered Vacuum Switch (TVS) for the high voltage and high current. The TVS has an array of rods of alternate polarity in which a fixed gap spacing is maintained between the rods. The cross section of each rod has trapezoidal shape. It consists of electrode, ceramic chamber, getter and trigger. Currently, triggered vacuum switch (TVS) with seal-off has been designed and fabricated at PAL. An experimentation and trigger devices for TVS were designed for testing characteristics of electricity. For making the prototype of TVS, it is developed of fabrication process and fined of electrode material. The fabrication of the TVS is a lot of process which have manufacturing of part, chemical clean, ceramic brazing and metal welding. The fabricated TVS is tested of leak for vacuum, hold-off voltage and conditioning of trigger system. The TVS has pinch-off after it is removed of gas in the TVS and activated of getter in degassing furnace. The prototype TVS tested about 20 kV, 75 kA, 83 ${\mu}s$ with 100 kJ capacitor bank and inductance 5 ${\mu}H$. This paper describes the results of tests and the characteristics of the switch.

A Study on the Natural Mapping between Burner and Switch of Gas Range by Color coding (가스레인지에 있어서 칼라코딩을 통한 버너와 스위치의 자연적 대응에 관한 연구)

  • People store information not only in their Drain but also material things. Norman called it knowledge in the world. The general way to store the information is to paste labels. 4 burner gas range force user to make conceptual model between burner and switch to see labels. but those are cognitive stress. Norman suggested spatial analogies for natural mapping between display and control. However the way of his methods in spatial analogies was not compatible with kitchen atmosphere. To solve those problems 1 suggested color coding . This study hypothesized that the mapping between burner and switch is realized by color coding. To testy the hypothesis 1 compared A group using general gas range with B group using color coded gas range. The result showed difference between A and B in accuracy ( F (1, 38) = 17.892, p < 0.01) and response time ( F (1, 38) = 6.726 p < 0.05). The result of this test is to certify that color coding affect peoples by presenting the difference accuracy and response time. As result this study presents that color coding can be compatible the product having importance to certify in the design process.
