A substantial number of processes have been suggested as possible contributors to the extragalactic $\gamma$-ray background (EGRB). Yet another contribution to this background will be emission produced in hadronic interactions of cosmic-ray protons with the cluster thermal gas; this class of cosmic rays (CRs) has been shown to be responsible for the EUV emission in the Coma Cluster of galaxies. In this paper we assume the CRs in the Coma Cluster is prototypic of all clusters and derive the contribution to the EGRB from all clusters over time. We examine two different possibilities for the scaling of the CR flux with cluster size: the number density of the CRs scale with the number density of the thermal plasma, and alternatively, the energy density of the CRs scale with the energy density of the plasma. We find that in all scenarios the EGRB produced by this process is sufficiently low that it will not be observable in comparison with other mechanisms that are likely to produce an EGRB.
Predictions of diesel particulate filtration are typically made by modeling of a particle collection, and providing particle trapping levels in terms of a pressure drop. In the present study, a series of single channel diesel particulate filter (DPF) experiments are conducted, the pressure traces are inversely analyzed and essential filtration parameters are deducted for model closure. A DPF filtration model is formulated with a non-linear description of soot cake regression. Dependence of soot cake porosity, packing density, permeability, and soot density in filter walls on convective-diffusive particle transportation is examined. Sensitivity analysis was conducted on model parameters, relevant to the mode of transition. Soot cake porosity and soot packing density show low degrees of dispersion with respect to the Peclet number and have asymptotes at 0.97 and $70\;kg/m^3$, respectively, at high Peclet number. Soot density in the filter wall, which is inversely proportional to filter wall Peclet number, controls the filtration mode transition but exerts no influence on termination pressure drop. The percolation constant greatly alters the extent of pressure drop, but is insensitive to volumetric flow rate or temperature of exhaust gas at fixed operation mode.
In this paper, some numerical methods recently developed for gas-liquid two-phase flows are reviewed. And then, a preconditioning method to solve cavitating flow by the author is introduced. This method employs a finite-difference Runge-Kutta method combined with MUSCL TVD scheme, and a homogeneous equilibrium cavitation model. So that it permits to treat simply the whole gas-liquid two-phase flow field including wave propagation, large density changes and incompressible flow characteristic at low Mach number. Finally, numerical results such as detailed observations of the unsteady cavity flows, a sheet cavitation break-off phenomena and some data related to performance characteristics of hydrofoils are shown.

The scope of this work is to determine and compare the effect of electron temperature ($T_e$) and number density ($N_e$) on the yield rate and concentration of reactive chemical species ($^{\bullet}OH$, $H_2O_2$ and $O_3$) in an argon, air and oxygen injected negative DC (0-4 kV) capillary discharge with water flow(0.1 L/min). The discharge was created between tungsten pin-to pin electrodes (${\Phi}=0.5mm$) separated by a variable distance (1-2 mm) in a quartz capillary tube (2 mm inner diameter, 4 mm outer diameter), with various gas injection rates (100-800 sccm). Optical emission spectroscopy (OES) of the hydrogen Balmer lines was carried out to investigate the line shapes and intensities as functions of the discharge parameters such as the type of gas, gas injection rate and inter electrode gap distances. The intensity ratio method was used to calculate $T_e$ and Stark broadening of Balmer ${\beta}$ lines was adopted to determine $N_e$. The effects of $T_e$ and $N_e$ on the reactive chemical species formation were evaluated and presented. The enhancement in yield rate of reactive chemical species was revealed at the higher electron temperature, higher gas injection rates, higher discharge power and larger inter-electrode gap. The discharge with oxygen injection was the most effective one for increasing the reactive chemical species concentration. The formation of reactive chemical species was shown more directly related to $T_e$ than $N_e$ in a flowing water gas injected negative DC capillary discharge.

The effects of addition of $D_2$ to conventional gases on the discharge characteristics were investigated in this work with the aim of improving the voltage margin, the wall charge and the jitter. The addition of an extremely small gas-inlet amounts of $D_2$ increased the number of electrons which improves the $Xe^{\ast}$ density and $Xe_2^{\ast}$ density. As a result, the voltage margin, the jitter and the wall charge increased.

A non-axisymmetric mass distribution of galactic structures including bulge (or bar) causes gas inflow from the disk to the nuclear region, including intense star formation within few hundred parsecs of galactic central. In order to investigate the relation between the ellipticity of the bulge and the presence of a nuclear starburst, we use a volume-limited sample of galaxies with Mr < -19.5 mag at 0.02 < z < 0.05 from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey Data Release 7. Total sample is 3252 spiral galaxies, which include nuclear starburst galaxies. We find that the occurrence of nuclear starbursts has a moderate correlation with bulge ellipticity of intermediate-type spiral galaxies (morphology classes Sab-Sb) in low galaxy number density environments and isolated regions where the distance between the target galaxies and the closest galaxies is relatively far. In high galaxy number density environments and interacting regions, close encounters and mergers between galaxies can cause gas inflow to the nuclear region even without the presence of non-axisymmetric bulges.
Continuous accretion of metal-poor gas can explain the discrepancy between the number of observed G-dwarfs and the number predicted by the "simple model" of galactic evolution. The maximum accretion rate estimated based upon approaching high velocity clouds (HVCs) can be up to ${\sim}0.4M_{\odot}{\cdot}yr^{-1}$ which is comparable with the accretion rate required by many chemical evolution models that is at least ${\sim}0.45M_{\odot}{\cdot}yr^{-1}$. However, it is not clear to what extent the exchange of gas between the disk and the cloud can occur when an HVC collides with the galactic disk. Therefore, we examined a series of HVC-Disk collision simulations using the FLASH 2.5 hydrodynamics simulation code. The outcomes of our simulations show that an HVC will more likely take away substances from the galactic disk rather than adding new material to the disk. We define this as an HVC having a "negative fuel rate". Further results in our study also indicate that the process and amount of fuel rate change can have various forms depending on the density, radius and velocity of an approaching HVC. The simulations in our study covers HVCs with a neutral hydrogen volume density from $1.0{\times}10^{-2}cm^{-3}$ to $41.0cm^{-3}$, radius of 200 pc to 1000 pc and velocity in the range between $40km{\cdot}s^{-1}$ and $100km{\cdot}s^{-1}$.
