  • In this paper, the electron swarm parameters in the 0.5% and 0.2% SF\ulcorner+Ar mixtures are measured by time of flight method over the E/N(Td) range from 30 to 300(Td). The measurements have been carried out by the double shutter drift tube with variable drift distance from the cathod. A two-term approximation of the boltzmann equation analysis and Monte Carlo simulation have been also used to study electron transport coefficients. We have calculated W, $ND_L,\;ND_T,\;\alpha,\;\eta,\;\alpha-\eta$, and the limiting breakdown electric field to gas mixtures ratio in pure $SF_6$+Ar mixtures. The electron energy distribution function has been analysed in $SF_6$+Ar mixtures at E/N : 200(Td) for a case of the equilibrium region in the mean electron energy. The measured results and the calculated results have been compared each other.

  • Numerical model was developed that simulates radionuclide (3H and 14C) transport modeling at the 2nd phase facility at the Wolsong LILW Disposal Center. Four scenarios were simulated with different assumptions about the integrity of the components of the barrier system. For the design case, the multi-barrier system was shown to be effective in diverting infiltration water around the vaults containing radioactive waste. Nevertheless, the volatile radionuclide 14C migrates outside the containment system and through the unsaturated zone, driven by gas diffusion. 3H is largely contained within the vaults where it decays, with small amounts being flushed out in the liquid state. Various scenarios were examined in which the integrity of the cover barrier system or that of the concrete were compromised. In the absence of any engineered barriers, 3H is washed out to the water table within the first 20 years. The release of 14C by gas diffusion is suppressed if percolation fluxes through the facility are high after a cover failure. However, the high fluxes lead to advective transport of 14C dissolved in the liquid state. The concrete container is an effective barrier, with approximately the same effectiveness as the cover.

  • Natural gas hydrates are ice-like solid substances, which are composed of water and natural gas, mainly methane. They have three kinds of crystal structures of five polyhedra formed by hydrogen-bonded water molecules, and are stable at high pressures and low temperatures. They contain large amounts of organic carbon and widely occur in deep oceans and permafrost regions. Therefore, they are expected as a potential energy resource in the future. Especially, $1m^3$ natural gas hydrate contains up to $172Nm^3$ of methane gas, de pending on the pressure and temperature of production. Such large volumes make natural gas hydrates can be used to store and transport natural gas. In this study, three-phase equilibrium conditions for forming natural gas hydrate were numerically obtained in pure water and single electrolyte solution containing 3 wt% NaCl. The results show that the predictions match the previous experimental values very well, and it was found that NaCl acts as an inhibitor. Also, help gases such that ethane, propane, i-butane, and n-butane reduce the hydrate formation pressure at the same temperature.

  • Gas hydrate is formed by physical binding between water molecule and gas such as methane, ethane, propane, or carbon dioxide, etc., which is captured in the cavities of water molecule under the specific temperature and pressure. $1\;m^3$ hydrate of pure methane can be decomposed to the methane gas of $172\;m^3$ and water of $0.8\;m^3$ at standard condition. If this characteristic of hydrate is reversely utilized, natural gas is fixed into water in the form of hydrate solid. Therefore, the hydrate is considered to be a great way to transport and store of natural gas in large quantity. Especially the transportation cost is known to be 18~25% less than the liquefied transportation. However, when methane gas hydrate is artificially formed, its reaction time may be too long and the gas consumption in water becomes relatively low, because the reaction rate between water and gas is low. Therefore, for the practical purpose in the application, the present investigation focuses on the rapid production of hydrates and the increment of the amount of captured gas by adding zeolite into pure water. The results show that when the zeolite of 0.01 wt% was added to distilled water, the amount of captured gas during the formation of methane hydrate was about 4.5 times higher than that in distilled water, and the methane hydrate formation time decreased at the same subcooling temperature.

  • This study is aimed to separate propylene and propane using membrane process instead of NCC(Naphtha Cracking Center) $C_3$ splitter. Membrane process is a low energy consumption and eco-friendly process while $C_3$ splitter requires high energy consumption in petrochemical processes. In this study, high performance facilitated transport membrane (FTM) is used for propylene/propane separation. FTM module was prepared on top of porous polyetherimide hollow fiber using PVP/$AgBF_4$/TCNQ. We developed simulation program predicting the membrane separation properties under operation conditions. Separation properties of FTM module for propylene and propane were obtained from the simulation program based on the pure gas permeation data. Based on these results, it is predicted that an one-stage membrane process provides 99.5% of propylene at permeate side from a binary gas mixture of 95/5 vol% $C_3H_6$ / vol% $C_3H_8$ supplied as a feed gas.

  • Methane hydrate, non-polluting new energy resource, satisfies requirement and considered as a precious resource that can prevent the global warming. Fortunately, there are abundant resources of methane hydrate distribute in the earth widely. Therefore, developing the techniques that can utilize these gases effectively is highly desired. The work in this paper here is to develop a skill which can transport and store methane hydrate. As a first step, the equilibrium experiment was carried out by increasing temperatures in the cell at fixed pressures. The influence of gas consumption rates under variable degree of subcooling, stirring and water injection has been investigated formation to clarify kinetic characteristics of the hydrate. The results of present investigation showed that the enhancements of the hydrate formation in terms of the gas/water ratio are closely related to operational pressure, temperature, degrees of subcooling, and water injection.

  • LNG carrier is a special-purpose vessel to transport natural gas (NG) from the place of origin to each consuming country. To increase the capacity of canying LNG carrier, the natural gas is conveyed as a state of liquid called LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) during a voyage because the total volume of NG is surprisingly reduced when it is cooled down to $-162^{\circ}C$. That is why the design of insulation of the carriers is important to protect LNG from the external heat invasion, and it has been a great challenging subject for several decades in the shipbuilding industry. For this ultimate goal, the boil-off rate (BOR) needs to be accurately estimated during a voyage. Therefore, the goal of this study is to propose a numerical method for estimating the BOR of LNG for given insulation containment subject to external temperature conditions during voyage.

  • Numerical analysis is made on the turbulent heat transfer with suspension of solid particles in circular tube with constant heat flux. The mean motion of suspending particles in mixture is treated as the secondary gas flow with virtual density and viscosity. Our modeling of turbulent transport phenomena of suspension flow is based on this assumption and conventional mixing length theory. This paper gives the evidence that the mixing length models can be extended to close the governing equations for two phase turbulent flow with solid boundary at a first order level. Results on Nusselt numbers obtained by analytical treatments are compared with available experimental data and discussed. They suggest that the most important parameters of two phase turbulent heat transfer phenomena are relative particle diameter to pipe diameter, gas-solid loading ratio, and specific heat of suspending material.

  • A vaporization model for single component fuel droplet has been developed for applying to sub- and supercritical conditions. This model can account for transient liquid heat ins and circulation effect inside the droplet, forced and natural convection, Stefan flow effect, real gas effect and ambient gas solubility into the liquid droplet in high-pressure conditions. Thermodynamic and transport properties are calculated as functions of temperature and pressure in both phases. Numerical calculations are carried out for several validation cases with the detailed experimental data. Numerical results confirm that this supercritical vaporization model is applicable to the high-pressure conditions encountered in the combustion processes of diesel engine.
