3상 170 kV 가스절연개폐장치(GIS)의 사고 원인 분석 및 예방 대책 (Analysis of the Causes of Accidents Related to 3 Phase 170 kV Gas Insulated Switchgears(GIS) and Preventive Measures)

  • The purpose of this paper is to analyze the causes of accidents related to the 3 phase 170 kV gas insulated switchgear of a power system collected from accident sites to secure data for the prevention of similar accidents and provide important points of view regarding diagnosis for the prevention of accidents involving gas insulated switchgears. The analysis results of the causes of accidents involving gas insulated switchgears showed deformation of the manipulation lever installed at the S-phase, disconnection of the insulation rod connection, melting of the upper conductor, a damaged tulip, damage to the lower spacer and the spacer at the breaker, etc. It is believed from this result that the potential for accidents has expanded due to accumulated energy as a result of repeated deterioration. The carbonization depth of a GIS was formed near the screw (T2, T3) used to secure the lower pole of the S-phase tulip. It is not known what has caused the screws to be extruded and melted. However, it is thought that an unbalanced electromagnetic force, micro-discharge, surface discharge, etc., have occurred at that point. In addition, even though 16 years have passed since its installation, there was no installation defect, act of arson, accidental fire, etc. General periodical inspection and diagnosis failed to find the factors causing the accidents. As a system contained in a closed metal container, it has a high risk factor. Therefore, it is necessary to design, install and operate a GIS in accordance with the standard operational procedure (SOP). In addition, it is necessary to apply conversion technology for periodical SF6 gas analysis and precision safety diagnosis. It is expected that tracking and managing these changes in characteristics by recording the results on the history card will provide a significant accident prevention effect.

  • Bulky iron-core potential transformers (PT) are installed in a tank of gas insulated switchgears (GIS) for a system voltage measurement in power substations. In this paper, we studied an electronic voltage transformer (EVT) embedded in a spacer for miniaturization, eco-friendliness, and performance improvement of GIS. The prototype EVT consists of a capacitive probe (CP) that can be embedded in a spacer and a voltage Follower with a high input and a low output impedance. The CP was fabricated in the form of a Flexible-PCB to acquire the insulation performance and to withstand vibration and shock during operation. Voltage ratio of the prototype EVT is about 42,270, and the frequency bandwidth of -3 dB ranges from 0.33 Hz to 3.9 MHz. The voltage ratio error evaluated at about 6%, 12% and 18% of the rated voltage of 170 kV was 0.32%, and the phase error was 12.9 minutes. These results were within the accuracy for the class 0.5 specified in IEC 60044-7 and satisfy even in ranges from 80% to 120% of the rated voltage. If the prototype EVT replaces the conventional iron-core potential transformer, it is expected that the height of the GIS could be reduced by 11% and the amount of SF6 will be reduced by at least 10%.

  • Transient earth voltage (TEV) signals propagate on metal surfaces when partial discharge (PD) occurs due to the deterioration of insulation performance in the operation of gas-insulated switchgears (GIS). A TEV sensor has advantages of high sensitivity and convenient installation for detecting PD defects. However, the TEV sensor depends on imports in domestic and detailed studies have not been conducted. In this study, a sensor was designed and fabricated by the TEV principle and its response characteristics were evaluated for detecting PD defects, which were simulated as protrusion on conductor (POC), protrusion on enclosure (POE), and free moving particle (FMP) defects. Finally, the PD-induced TEV signals were measured and phase-resolved partial discharge (PRPD) patterns were analyzed to identify the type of defect.

  • We developed internal and external type sensor to measure ultra-high frequency (UHF) partial discharge (PD) in 170 kV gas-insulated switchgears (GIS). We also manufactured a PD-generator to verify and measure the detection sensitivity of those sensors. We measured the output power of the UHF PD sensors induced by PDs of 5 pC using the PD-generator. We measured UHF propagation loss of an 170 kV GIS for optimal arrangement of the sensors. We used swept UHF signal from a network analyzer into the GIS to measure the loss of various components of the GIS.

  • We developed an on-line Ultra-high frequency partial discharge monitoring system to prevent a catastrophic failure of gas- insulated switchgears. The system has been tested in the laboratory for detection of various UHF PD signals. We also performed detection sensitivity verification tests and compared them with conventional IEC60270 method.

  • An ultra wide band ultra-high frequency (UHF) signal processing module was designed for on-line UHF partial discharge (PD) monitoring systems for gas-insulated switchgears (GIS). Major advantage of the unit is an improved PD detection sensitivity through minimizing the effect of surrounding interference signals. The detection sensitivity of the unit was <-60 dBm that is sufficient to detect UHF PD signals as low as 1 pC. Precise detection of PD occurred in the GIS, due to internal defects, is possible by using the signal processing unit.

Dielectric Properties of Epoxy/Micro-sized Alumina Composite and of Epoxy/Micro-sized/Nano-sized Alumina Composite

  • Epoxy/micro-sized alumina composite was prepared, and the effects of alumina content on the dielectric properties were investigated in order to develop an insulation material for gas-insulated switchgears (GIS). Nano-sized alumina (average particle size: 30 nm) was also incorporated into the epoxy/micro-sized alumina composite. Dielectric tests were carried out in ASTM D 150, and capacitance (Cp) and dielectric loss (tanδ) were measured. The dielectric constant increased with increasing alumina content in the epoxy/micro-alumina system and the epoxy/micro-alumina/nano-alumina system. As 1,3-diglycidyl glyceryl ether (DGE) content increased, the dielectric constant decreased and dielectric loss increased. This ocurred as a result of the weak electric field enhancement due to homogeneous dispersion of micro- and nano-sized alumina particles in an epoxy composite.

  • This paper describes analysis and pattern recognition techniques for Partial Discharge(PD) signals in Gas Insulated Switchgears (GIS). Detection of PD signals is one of the most important factors in the predictive maintenance of GIS. One of the methods of detection is electro magnetic wave detection within the Ultra High Frequency (UHF) band (300MHz $\~$ 3GHz). In this paper, PD activity simulation is generated using three types of artificial defects, which were detected by a UHF PD sensor installed in the GIS. The detected PD signals were performed on three-dimensional phi-q-n analysis. Finally, parameters were calculated and an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) was applied for PD pattern recognition. As a result, it was possible to discriminate and classify the defects.
