연소합성법에 의한 YAG:Ce 형광체의 발광 특성 (Photoluminescence Characteristics of YAG:Ce Phosphor by Combustion Method)

  • The Ce-doped YAG(Yttrium Aluminum Garnet, $Y_3Al_5O_{12}$) phosphor powders were synthesized by combustion method. The luminescence, formation process and structure of phosphor powders were investigated by means of XRD, SEM and PL. The XRD patterns show that YAG Phase can form through sintering at $1000^{\circ}C$ for 2 h. This temperature is much lower than that required to synthesize YAG phase via the conventional solid state reaction method. There were no intermediate Phases such as YAP(Yttrium Aluminum Perovskite, $YAlO_3$) and YAM(Yttrium Aluminum Monoclinic, $Y_4Al_2sO_9$) observed in the sintering process. The powders absorbed excitation energy in the range $410{\sim}510\;nm$. Also, the crystalline YAG:Ce showed broad emission peaks in the range $480{\sim}600\;nm$ and had maximum intensity at 528 nm.

  • Cerium-activated yttrium aluminate ($Y_3Al_5O_{12}:Ce^{3+}$) exhibiting a garnet structure has been widely utilized in the production of light emitting diodes (LEDs) as a yellow emitting phosphor. The commercialized yttrium aluminum garnet (YAG) phosphor is typically synthesized by a solid-state reaction, which produces irregular shape particles with a size of several tens of micrometers by using the top-down method. To control the shape and size of particles, which had been the primary disadvantage of top-down synthetic methods, we synthesized YAG:Ce nanoparticles with a diameter of 500 nm using a coprecipitation method under the atmospheric pressure without the use of template or special equipment. The precursor particles were formed by refluxing an aqueous solution of the nitrate salts of Y, Al, and Ce, urea, and polyvinylpyrrolidone (55 K) at $100^{\circ}C$ for 12 h. YAG:Ce nanoparticles were formed by the calcination of precursor particles at $1100^{\circ}C$ for 10 h under atmospheric conditions. The phase identification, microstructure, and photoluminescent properties of the products were evaluated by X-ray powder diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, absorption spectrum and photoluminescence analyses.

  • The nano-sized Ce-doped YAG(Yttrium Aluminum Garnet, $Y_3Al_5O_{12}$) phosphor powders were prepared by combustion method from a mixed aqueous solution of metal nitrates, using citric acid as a fuel. The luminescence formation process and structure of phosphor powders were investigated by means of XRD, SEM and PL. The XRD patterns show that YAG phase can form at all of the $Ce^{3+}$ concentration. However, when $Ce^{3+}$ concentration is over 2.0mol%, XRD patterns show $CeO_2$ peak between (321) peak and (400) peak. The pure crystalline YAG:Ce with uniform size of 30nm was obtained at 0.6mol% of the $Ce^{3+}$ concentration. The crystalline YAG:Ce powders showed broad emission peaks in the range 475~630nm and had maximum intensity at 526nm.

고출력 LD 용 형광체 세라믹 플레이트의 두께에 따른 광학 특성 (The effect of thickness on luminous properties of ceramic phosphor plate for high-power LD)

  • 본 연구에서는 고출력 자동차 헤드램프용 LD 에 적용 가능한 garnet 구조의 YAG : Ce 형광체 세라믹 플레이트를 제작하고 광학 특성을 분석하였다. 액상법을 이용하여 단분산된 구형 나노 YAG : Ce 입자를 합성하고 이를 $Al_2O_3$와 혼합하여 형광체 세라믹 플레이트를 제작하였다. 형광체 세라믹 플레이트의 두께를 $75{\mu}m$, $100{\mu}m$로 조절하여 두께에 따른 광 변환 효율, 열 소광(Thermal quenching), 휘도 및 색온도의 광학 특성을 비교하였다. 실험 결과, 광 변환 효율의 감소 폭은 모두 25 % 감소하였고, 열 소광, 최대 광 변환 효율 값, 최대 휘도 값은 $100{\mu}m$ 일 때 더 높게 나타났다.

  • Single-phase yellow phosphor, $CaGd_{2-x}ZrSc(AlO_4)_3:xCe^{3+}$ ($CGZSA:Ce^{3+}$), possessing cubic symmetry with varied $Ce^{3+}$ concentrations, was synthesized using the solid-state reaction method. The samples were characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), excitation spectra, emission spectra, thermal quenching, and decay curves. The cubic phase of $CGZSA:Ce^{3+}$ phosphor was confirmed via XRD analysis. The photoluminescence spectra of $CGZSA:Ce^{3+}$ phosphor demonstrated that the phosphor could be excited at the wavelength of 440 nm; a broad yellow emission band was centered at 541 nm. These results indicate that the phosphors are adequately excited by blue light and have the potential to function as yellow-emitting phosphors for applications in white light-emitting diodes.

  • Trivalent cerium ($Ce^{3+}$) activated yttrium aluminum garnet ($Y_3Al_5O_{12}$, YAG) phosphor thin films were deposited on quartz glass substrates by rf magnetron sputtering. The effects of sputtering parameters and annealing condition on the luminescent properties were investigated. The sputtering parameters were $O_2$/Ar gas ratio, rf power, and deposition time. The films were annealed at 1200 $^{\circ}C$ for 5 hours in $N_2+$vacuum atmosphere. Polycrystalline YAG:Ce thin film phosphor could be obtained with a gas ratio of $O_2$/(Ar+$O_2$)=0.5 after post-annealing. PL spectra excited at 450 nm showed a yellow single band at 550 nm.

Silica sol 바인더를 적용한 백색 LED용 Ce:YAG remote 형광체 코팅 (Ce:YAG remote phosphor coating for white LED with silica sol binder)

  • Silica sol에 YAG 형광체를 첨가량별로 spin 코팅 후, 코팅막의 blue LED에서 백색광이 발현되는 정도와 표면 및 곡면 코팅용 binder로써, 적용가능성을 확인하였다. SEM, PSA를 통해YAG의 입자 크기는 D50: 9~10 ㎛ 내외이며, XRD를 통해 YAG의 결정구조가 garnet(Y3Al5O12), cubic인 것을 확인하였다. 코팅막은 crack이 없고 동시에 silica sol이YAG 형광체를 균질하게 도포된 형상을 보였으며, 첨가량 증가와 비례하게 코팅막 내에서 YAG 첨가량과 두께는 최대 40 ㎛까지 증가하는 추세를 보였다. 그리고 YAG 첨가량이 증가할수록 PL emission intensity 증가와 chromatic locus 곡선 끝 방향으로 색좌표 이동을 확인하였다. Soda-lime 유리기판 표면에 코팅 후, crack이 없으며 YAG 형광체가 균질하게 도포된 코팅성과 코팅막의 백색광 발현특성을 확인할 수 있었고 이는 직접적으로 LED에 다양한 형태의 형광 형상의 구현이 가능하다는 것을 의미한다.

자동차용 레이저 헤드램프를 위한 형광체 세라믹 제조 및 발광 특성 분석 (Fabrication and analysis of luminous properties of phosphor ceramic for laser headlamp in automotive application)

  • 본 연구에서는 차세대 자동차 레이저 헤드램프 적용을 위하여 분무건조법을 통하여 가넷 구조를 갖는 구형의 YAG : Ce 형광체를 합성하였으며 이를 기반으로 형광체 세라믹을 제조하고 광학적 특성을 분석하였다. 분무건조법 기반으로 합성된 구형의 YAG : Ce 형광체를 이용한 형광체 세라믹의 두께를 100 ㎛, 150 ㎛, 200 ㎛로 조절하여 두께에 따른 광변환 효율, 열 소광, 휘도 및 색온도의 광학적 특성을 비교하였다. 연구 결과, 양자효율 및 광속 값은 두께가 150 ㎛ 일 때, 가장 높게 나타났다. 본 연구 결과는 기존의 액상법을 기반으로 한 YAG : Ce 나노 형광체 제조의 고 비용, 저 수율 등의 문제점을 개선한 방법으로 향 후, 형광체 세라믹 제조에 큰 역할을 할 수 있을 것이라 기대된다.

  • In the nineties the invention of the InGaN blue LED has innovated illumination technology. Currently LCD backlighting and more and more general lighting applications are based on white LEDs comprising of inorganic phosphors and blue emitting InGaN chip. Well established phosphor materials are ortho silicates and garnets like yellow emitting YAG:Ce. In our paper we demonstrate that garnet materials also allow for green light emission for both, general lighting and backlighting LED applications.
