낙법(烙法)에 관한 중의(中醫) 논문 고찰 (A Review of the TCM Articles about Cauterization Treatment)

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to review the chinese published papers on cauterization of traditional chinese medicine. Methods : We searched chinese published papers from 1958 until May 2017 via CNKI(China National Knowledge Infrastructure) with the keyword "cauterization". We analyzed the studies covered cauterization medical treatment, and classified them by 5 categories including periods, type of study, treatment site, experiment target site, and cauterizing method. Results : We reviewed 112 chinese papers which include 10 Original articles, 43 Review articles, and 59 Case reports. Examining yearly distributions, we can see that research on cauterization is becoming more active than in the past. In classification of 93 clinical studies by treatment site, the number of research on Tonsillitis accounts for almost half(43 studies), followed by Sore throat(14 studies). Among 10 experimental studies, Eye is the most frequently targeted organ which was used to study high intra-ocular pressure(5 studies), and retinal ganglion cell(2 studies). Lastly, there are various methods of cauterization used in papers: Branding iron(54 studies), and Red-hot needle(24 studies) are two major heating methods. Conclusions : This analysis shows that studies on the application of cauterization have been actively conducted in China these days. Furthermore, up-to-date cauterizing methods have been developed such as electric type and microwave type beyond traditional ways. We expect this article will encourage further research on cauterization in order to apply it to a variety of diseases. Then, it could become one of new effective medical treatments in Korean medicine.

독립성분분석을 이용한 정상 마우스와 rd/rd 마우스 망막파형의 시공간적 분석 (Spatiotemporal Analysis of Retinal Waveform using Independent Component Analysis in Normal and rd/rd Mouse)

  • 망막질환에 의해 변성된 망막에서는 시냅스 조직의 구성이나 전기적 특성이 정상망막과는 크게 다를 것으로 예상된다. 그러므로 본 논문에서는 다채널기록법을 이용하여 정상 망막과 변성 망막에서 망막파형을 기록한 후 그 파형을 주성분 분석법과 독립성분분석법을 이용하여 비교 분석하였다. 주성분분석법은 망막파형 분석법으로 확립된 방법인 반면 독립성분분석법은 EEG 신호의 분석법으로는 확립된 방법이나 아직 망막파형 분석법으로 사용된 적이 없으므로 본 연구진이 최초로 적용하여 보았다. 본 연구진에 의해 프로그램된 독립성분분석법을 위한 toolbox를 사용하여 시공간적 분석을 실시한 결과 정상 마우스에서는 독립성분분석법 또한 주성분분석법과 같이 망막신경절세포 파형의 분석 방법으로서의 사용가능성을 발견하였다 그러나 rd/rd 마우스에서는 독립성분분석법으로 그린 공간지도상에서 다수의 강한 활성과 약한 활성이 혼재되어 나오는 복잡한 양상을 띄었다. 추후 어떠한 기전에 의해 변성망막의 공간지도가 이렇게 복잡한 양상을 띄는지에 관한 연구가 진행되어야 할 것으로 사료된다.

Expression of Deleted in Colorectal Cancer in the Rat Trigeminal Ganglia

  • The deleted in colorectal cancer (DCC) protein mediates attractant responses to netrin during axonogenesis. In the rat trigeminal ganglia (TG), axons must extend toward and grow into the trigeminal nerve to innervate target tissues such as dental pulp. Our present study aimed to investigate the expression of DCC in the TG. Four developmental timepoints were assessed in the experiments: postnatal days 0, 7 and 10 and adulthood. RT-PCR and western blotting revealed that the expression of DCC mRNA and protein does not significantly change throughout development. Immunohistochemistry demonstrated that DCC expression in the TG was detectable in the perikarya region of the ganglion cells during development. Nerve injury at 3 and 5 days after the mandibular nerve had been cut did not induce altered expression of DCC mRNA in the TG. Moreover, DCC-positive cell bodies also showed similar immunoreactive patterns after a nerve cut injury. The results of this study suggest that DCC constitutively participates in an axonogenesis attractant in ways other than expression regulation.

Rnf152 Is Essential for NeuroD Expression and Delta-Notch Signaling in the Zebrafish Embryos

  • We report the biological functions of a zebrafish homologue of RING-finger protein 152 (rnf152) during embryogenesis. rnf152 was initially identified as a brain-enriched E3 ligase involved in early embryogenesis of zebrafish. Expression of rnf152 was ubiquitous in the brain at 24 hpf but restricted to the eyes, midbrain-hindbrain boundary (MHB), and rhombomeres at 48 hpf. Knockdown of rnf152 in zebrafish embryos caused defects in the eyes, MHB, and rhombomeres (r1-7) at 24 hpf. These defects in rnf152-deficient embryos were analyzed by whole-mount in situ hybridization (WISH) using neuroD, deltaD, notch1a, and notch3 probes. NeuroD expression was abolished in the marginal zone, outer nuclear layer (ONL), inner nuclear layer (INL), and ganglion cell layer (GCL) of the eyes at 27 hpf. Furthermore, deltaD and notch1a expression was remarkably reduced in the ONL, INL, subpallium, tectum, cerebellum, and rhombomeres (r1-7) at 24 hpf, whereas notch3 expression was reduced in the tectum, cerebellum, and rhombomeres at 24 hpf. Finally, we confirmed that expression of Notch target genes, her4 and ascl1a, also decreased significantly in these areas at 24 hpf. Thus, we propose that Rnf152 is essential for development of the eyes, midbrain and hindbrain, and that Delta-Notch signaling is involved.

  • 장신경 이형성증은 만성 가성 폐색 증후군의 드문 원인질환으로 임상 증상이 선천성 거대결장증과 유사하여 진단이 늦어지는 경우가 많기 때문에 임상적인 의심이 필요하다. 저자들은 쌍생아에서 신생아기에 태변이 배출되지 않고 복부 팽만을 보여 선천성 거대결장증이 의심되었으나 임상경과와 조직검사로 진단된 장신경 이형성증을 보고하는 바이다.

산왕거미 (Araneus ventricosus) 심관과 심근세포의 미세구조 (Fine Structure of the Heart Tube and Its Cardiac Muscle Cells in the Spider, Araneus ventricosus)

  • 왕거미과 산왕거미(Araneus ventricosus)의 심관과 심근세포의 미세구조적 특성을 주사형 및 투과형 전자현미경으로 관찰하였다. 거미의 심관은 복부마디의 등쪽에 분포되어 있고, 심외막과 심근층으로 구성되어 있었다. 심근층의 근섬유들은 종축을 중심으로 나선상의 배열을 이루고 있었고, 내막이 없이 혈림프에 직접 노출되는 구조를 이루고 있었다. 심관의 외부 표면에서는 3쌍의 심문이 형성되어 있었고, 내강에서는 원형질혈구와 과립혈구, 그리고 편도혈구 등 다양한 유형의 혈구들이 관찰되었다. 특히 심관의 내강을 향해 돌출된 심근돌기 주위에서는 편도혈구들이 대부분을 차지하고 있었다. 편도혈구의 세포질에는 유리 리보조옴이 산재되어 있었고 핵에는 이질염색질과 인이 발달되어 있었으나, 심근층 조직과의 특이한 연접은 관찰되지 않았다. 심근층에는 횡문이 형성되어 있었고, Z-line을 중심으로 근절의 구조를 이룬 근원섬유의 주위에서는 미토콘드리아와 근소포체가 풍부하게 함유되어 있었다. 심관의 배면을 따라 뻗은 신경절의 축삭들이 심근세포와 신경근육간 연접부를 형성하고 있음이 관찰되었다.

Incidence of pterygospinous and pterygoalar bridges in dried skulls of Koreans

  • Understanding of morphological structures such as the sphenoid spine and pterygoid processes is important during lateral transzygomatic infratemporal fossa approach. In addition, osseous variations such as pterygospinous and pterygoalar bridges are significant in clinical practice because they can produce various neurological disturbances or block the passage of a needle into the trigeminal ganglion through the foramen ovale. Two hundred and eighty-four sides of Korean adult dry skulls were observed to carry out morphometric analysis of the lateral plate of the pterygoid process, to investigate, for the first time among Koreans, the incidence of the pterygospinous and pterygoalar bony bridges, to compare the results with those available for other regional populations, and to discuss their clinical relevance as described on literatures. The mean of maximum widths of the left and right lateral plates of the pterygoid process were 15.99 mm and 16.27 mm, respectively. Also, the mean of maximum heights of the left and right lateral plates were 31.02 mm and 31.01 mm, respectively. The ossified pterygospinous ligament was observed in 51 sides of the skulls (28.0%). Ossification of the pterygospinous ligament was complete in four sides (1.4%). In 47 sides (16.6%), the pterygospinous bridge was incomplete. The ossified pterygoalar ligament was observed in 24 sides of the skulls (8.4%). Ossification was complete in eight sides (2.8%) and incomplete in 16 sides (5.6%). This detailed analysis of the lateral plate of the pterygoid process and related ossification of ligaments can improve the understanding of complex clinical neuralgias associated with this region.

Assessment of the pigeon (Columba livia) retina with spectral domain optical coherence tomography

  • Background: To assess the normal retina of the pigeon eye using spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) and establish a normative reference. Methods: Twelve eyes of six ophthalmologically normal pigeons (Columba livia) were included. SD-OCT images were taken with dilated pupils under sedation. Four meridians, including the fovea, optic disc, red field, and yellow field, were obtained in each eye. The layers, including full thickness (FT), ganglion cell complex (GCC), thickness from the retinal pigmented epithelium to the outer nuclear layer (RPE-ONL), and from the retinal pigmented epithelium to the inner nuclear layer (RPE-INL), were manually measured. Results: The average FT values were significantly different among the four meridians (p < 0.05), with the optic disc meridian being the thickest (294.0 ± 13.9 ㎛). The average GCC was thickest in the optic disc (105.3 ± 27.1 ㎛) and thinnest in the fovea meridian (42.8 ± 15.3 ㎛). The average RPE-INL of the fovea meridian (165.5 ± 18.3 ㎛) was significantly thicker than that of the other meridians (p < 0.05). The average RPE-ONL of the fovea, optic disc, yellow field, and red field were 91.2 ± 5.2 ㎛, 87.7 ± 5.3 ㎛, 87.6 ± 6.5 ㎛, and 91.4 ± 3.9 ㎛, respectively. RPE-INL and RPE-ONL thickness of the red field meridian did not change significantly with measurement location (p > 0.05). Conclusions: Measured data could be used as normative references for diagnosing pigeon retinopathies and further research on avian fundus structure.

Effect of red ginseng on visual function and vision-related quality of life in patients with glaucoma

  • Background: Red ginseng has been found to improve ocular perfusion and dry eye syndrome in glaucomatous eyes; however, its effects on visual function and vision-related quality of life have not been investigated. This study sought to evaluate the effects of red ginseng on visual function and vision-related quality of life in glaucoma patients using contrast sensitivity and a questionnaire. Methods: Participants were randomly assigned to two groups in this prospective, randomized, double-blind study: in one group, red ginseng was taken first, followed by a placebo, and in the other, placebo was taken first, followed by red ginseng. We measured and compared changes in contrast sensitivity and vision-related quality of life between the two groups. Contrast sensitivity was measured using OPTEC® 6500P, and vision-related quality of life was evaluated using the 25-item National Eye Institute Visual Function Questionnaire. One-way and two-way repeated measure analyses of variance were used for the comparison. Relationships between respective changes in dry eye syndrome and contrast sensitivity were also analyzed. Results: Daytime contrast sensitivity and ocular pain improved after the administration of red ginseng. Nighttime contrast sensitivity was improved in early or moderate glaucoma. Improved contrast sensitivity was not associated with improvement in dry eye syndrome. Conclusion: Red ginseng could improve contrast sensitivity and ocular pain in patients with glaucoma. The mechanism underlying improvement in contrast sensitivity appears to be associated with enhanced retinal perfusion or retinal ganglion cell function, but not dry eye syndrome.
