  • Williams, M K., King, E., and Walford, Joan (1969). Brit. J. industr. Med., 26, 202-216. An investigation of lead absorption in an electric accumulator factory with the use of personal samplers. Thirty-nine lead workers and controls, in stable conditions of exposure, each wore personal lead-in-air samplers daily for two weeks. During the second week samples for blood lead, urinary lead, urinary coproporphyrin, urinary $\gamma$-aminolevulinic acid (ALA), the punctate basophil count, and haemoglobin were taken daily. Duplicate estimations were made on one day. The lead exposures of men doing almost identical jobs differed by ratios of up to four to one. This could be attributed on y to personal differences in working habits. The correlation coefficients and regression equations of the biochemical tests with lead-in-air and with each other were determined. The mean values and $95\%$ confidence limits of single determinations of some of the biochemical tests corresponding to the two commonly accepted TLVs of lead-in-air (0-20 and 0-15 mg./$m^{3}$) were calculated from the regression equations. For each biochemical test the variation due to analytical error, the variation from day to day within subjects and the residual variation about the regression on lead-in-air were calculated. Previous estimates of the latter are not known. Excessive confidence may be placed in an index of exposure due to its low coefficient of variation within subjects unless the coefficient of variation between subjects about regression is taken into account. The correction for specific gravity of estimations of lead and ALA in spot samples of urine was found to reduce slightly the residual variation between subjects about the regression on lead-in-air and to increase the correlations with lead-in-air and with the other biochemical tests, but these changes were not statistically significant. The modified method used for estimating blood lead and urinary lead is described and validated.

  • The log-density ratio of the conditional densities of the predictors given the response variable provides useful information for variable selection in the logistic regression model. In this paper, we consider the predictors that are needed and how they should be included in the model. If the conditional distributions are skewed, the distributions can be considered as gamma distributions. Under this assumption, linear and log terms are generally included in the model. The log-odds graph is a very useful graphical tool in this study. A graphical study is presented which shows that if the conditional distributions of x|y for the two groups overlap significantly, we need both the linear and quadratic terms. On the contrary, if they are well separated, only the linear or log term is needed in the model.

  • In this study, degradation of estrone (E1) and $17{\alpha}$-ethynylestradiol (EE2) by gamma-irradiation and subsequent reduction of estrogenic activity as a function of absorbed dose were conducted using the yeast two-hybrid assay. Relative potency of E1 and EE2 compared to estrogenic activity of $17{\beta}$-estradiol (E2) was found to be 0.0144 and 0.1605, respectively. More than 90% of E1 and EE2 (both $5.0{\times}10^{-6}M$) was removed at an absorbed dose of 5 kGy, but more than 40% of estrogenic activity still remained. The addition of $TiO_2$ catalyst appeared to improve the removal efficiency of E1 and decrease estrogenic activity while there was no significant effect for EE2. Additionally, the calculated estrogenic activity of E1 and EE2 based on a regression model was well correlated with the observed activity.

  • This study was performed to estimate the gas-particle partitioning of organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) in atmosphere, the samples were collected by PUF high volume air sampler for two years from June, 2000 to June, 2002. The gas phase fraction of ${\alpha/\gamma}-HCH$, heptachlor epoxide, ${\alpha/\gamma}-chlordane$ and trans-nonachlor was over 90%. But the gas phase fraction of ${\beta}-HCH$, p,p'-DDE, endosulfan sulfate, p,p'-DDD and p,p'-DDT was range of 20% through 80%, which means the gas phase fraction of OCPs components described above is sensitive to temperature. The correlation between the gas phase fraction and molecular weight of each OCPs component was not found in this research. The slope of regression line between gas-particle partitioning coefficient(${\log}K_p$) and subcooled liquid vapor(${\log}{P^o}_L$), gal-particle partitioning coefficient(${\log}K_p$) and octanol-air partitioning coefficient(${\log}K_{oa}$) which show -0.54 and 0.43 was not steep. So the equilibrium state between gas and particle was not reached and in this state the particulate fraction was low.

  • This paper was studied to investigate the equilibrium state between organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) concentration of air and soil, and to know whether soil is a secondary pollution source of OCPs in air or not. The OCPs concentration of air ($C_{air}$) and soil ($C_{soil}$) is not related to molecular weight, vapor pressure ($P_L$) and octanol-air partition coefficient ($K_{oa}$). The slope of the regression line between soil-air partition coefficient ($K_{sa}$) and scavenging coefficient ($C_{soil}/C_{air}$) was 0.2952, which the OCPs concentration between air and soil did not reached to the equilibrium state. The soil/air fugacity quotients ($f_{soil}/f_{air}$) of p, p'-DDT/DDD/DDE and ${\beta}-HCH\;(0.30{\sim}0.67$), which is smaller than 1, means the deposit of OCPs from air to soil. However, $f_{soil}/f_{air}$ of heptachlor, heptachlor epoxide, ${\alpha}/{\gamma}-chlordane$, trans-nonachlor, endosulfan sulfate and ${\alpha}/{\gamma}-HCH\;(1.90{\sim}73.25)$, which is greater than 1, means that soil is secondary pollution source of OCPs in air.

  • Purpose: This paper presents a method to evaluate the stockpile reliability of propelling charge for performance and storage safety with storage time. Methods: We consider a performance failure level is the amount of muzzle velocity drop which is the maximum allowed standard deviation multiplied by 6. The lifetime for performance is estimated by non-linear regression analysis. The state failure level is assumed that the content of stabilizer is below 0.2%. Because the degradation of stabilizer with storage time has both distribution of state and distribution of lifetime, it must be evaluated by stochastic process method such as gamma process. Results: It is estimated that the lifetime for performance is 59 years. The state distribution at each storage time can be shown from probability density function of degradation. It is estimated that the average lifetime as $B_{50}$ life is 33 years from cumulative failure distribution function curve. Conclusion: The lifetime for storage safety is shorter than for performance and we must consider both the lifetime for storage safety and the lifetime performance because of variation of degradation rate.

  • Objective: To explore the immune reconstitution of $CD4^+T$ cells after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (Allo-HSCT) and its relationship with invasive fungal infection (IFI) in patients with hematological malignancies. Materials and Methods: Forty-seven patients with hematological malignancies undergoing Allo-HSCT in Binzhou Medical University Hospital from February, 2010 to October, 2014 were selected. At 1, 2 and 3 months after transplantation, the immune subpopulations and concentration of cytokines were assessed respectively using flow cytometry (FCM) and enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The incidence of IFI after transplantation and its correlation with immune reconstitution of $CD4^+T$ cells were investigated. Results: The number of $CD4^+T$ cells and immune subpopulations increased progressively after transplantation as time went on, but the subpopulation cell count 3 months after transplantation was still significantly lower than in the control group (p<0.01). In comparison to the control group, the levels of interleukin-6 (IL-6) and IL-10 after transplantation rose evidently (p<0.01), while that of transforming growth factor-${beta}$ (TGF-${beta}$) was decreased (p<0.01). There was no statistically significant difference level of interferon-${\gamma}$ (IFN-${\gamma}$) (p>0.05). The incidence of IFI was 19.2% (9/47), and multivariate logistic regression revealed that IFI might be related to Th17 cell count (p<0.05), instead of Th1, Th2 and Treg cell counts as well as IL-6, IL-10, TGF-${beta}$ and IFN-${\gamma}$ levels (p>0.05). Conclusions: After Allo-HSCT, the immune reconstitution of $CD4^+T$ cells is delayed and Th17 cell count decreases obviously, which may be related to occurrence of IFI.

  • In polysaccharide fermentation with Aureobasidium pullulans, the aeration effects on the production of polysaccharide and the rheological properties of fermentation broth were studied. The increase of the aeration rates from 0.5 to 2.0vvm at 500 rpm yielded the maximum specific production rate of polysaccharide from 0.046 to $0.093 (hr^{-1})$, and the maximum specific growth rate of cells from 0.168 to $0.192 (hr^{-1})$. The viscosity behavior of fermentation broths at the different aeration rates followed the power-law ${\tau}= K({\gamma})^n$. The viscosity attributed by cells was about 10% of the total viscosity of fermentation broth and most of viscosity was attributed by the polysaccharide produced. The relationship between power-law parameters and the concentration of polysaccharide generally satisfied the etㄴrations with the regression coefficient greater than 0.980, $lnK(t)= ln({\tau})_o-n(t)\;ln({\gamma})_o\;and\;K(t)=A P(t)^B$.

  • The purpose of this study is to determine whether the clinical activity of patients with atopic dermatitis(AD) correlate with their serum cytokine levels. 86 patients with AD were treated with KHS, YMH and GHT. On each visit to the clinic, their skin status was evaluated using the SCORAD index and serum IL-4, $IFN-{\gamma}$, IL-12, IL-13, IL-2 and IL-10 were measured by ELISA. After oral administration of herbal medicine, patients' skin status and subjective parameters such as pruritus and sleeplessness were significantly improved according to regression analysis. In particular, patients aged 0-9 showed stronger responses to treatment, which implies that the younger patients aged, the easier the treatment by herbal formula became. In analysis of the type of chosen herbal medicines, YMH treated group showed a stronger response in reduction of affected lesion, intensity of a lesion and subjective symptoms, while KHS treated group showed the least reduction. The levels of serum IL-4, $IFN-{\gamma}$ and IL-2 correlated with disease activity. Moreover, in patients under 0-9, the IL-4 level had a corrleation with disease activity; patients under 10-19 showed a correlation between the levels of IL-4 and IL-2 and disease activity; patients under 20-29 showed a correlation between the levels of IL-2, IL-12 and $IFN-{\gamma}$ and disease activity. In comparison with chosen herbal medicines, the groups treated with YMH or GHT treated group showed a correlation between the levels of IL-4, IL-12 and IL-2 and disease activity while KHS treated group did not. Our data suggest that serum levels of IL-4 and IL-13 are good indicators of clinical improvement in treating AD.
