Chinese Elements in RPG Game of USA, JAPAN, and KOREA (中国元素在国外RPG游戏角色造型中的应用分析 )

  • As the market sheare of the Chinese game market across the world has been largely expanded over a decade, big game exporters of USA, Japan, Korea have developed Chinese factors and promoted export strategies, that target China. The Purpose of this study is to analyze the popular game characters of USA, Japan and Korea in order to provide empirical analysis of traditional Chinese elements applied in existing games. The RPG games in USA, Japan and Korea were selected for the contents analysis of the Chinese elements to show how the existing game companies used Chinese elements. The main findings of the research from survey data are rather inconsistent with the content analysis. In particular, all the RPG game companies of USA, Japan and Korea showed a remarkable ratio of using Manzu clothes more than Hanzu clothes. But, the preference of real game users on the Manzu style were lower than Hanzu style. Moreover, Chinese users showed more preference of the game character background that users more deepen Chinese culture. We suggest that applying Chinese elements need to be more selective based on real user's demand.

  • The Korean online gaming industry has seen rapid growth since the boom of information technology (IT) related industries, especially Internet and PC-bang or local area network (LAN) use, throughout the country. Online games are real-time games in which two or more players meet, compete, and cooperate in the same game space using the same communication network. Even though the growth rates of IT-related industries have recently slowed, the growth of the online gaming industry has increased, and Korean firms are expanding their businesses to countries all over the world. However, the online gaming industry is becoming an oligopoly, in which 4-5 leading companies occupy most online gaming markets. This situation presents a disadvantage to the Korean online gaming industry, since online players usually seek a diversity of online gaming contents and high quality online game services. Therefore, small- and medium-sized game developers must survive in this market by upgrading the quality of their online gaming services in an effort to provide differentiated goods and services in monopolistic competition markets. However, most venture companies in the online game industry, whether new or previously existing, are not able to obtain adequate financing. The objective of this paper is to examine the management environment for medium- and small-sized game developers in the Korean online gaming industry. By introducing the case of Grigon Entertainment, we try to identify the source of difficulty obtaining external financing for Korean venture firms in the online gaming industry.

  • CSR(Corporate Social Responsibility), as company's survival strategy, recently has an increasing importance in the world and becomes a global trend as a requisite of improving national competitiveness. That is because advanced countries hurry to standardize the CSR so that it can give systematic complementary methods to the right and reverse function due to many emerging multinational corporations and trade increase between nations. This study is the basic study to expand the CSR awareness of online game development company resulting from this problem. Yet the CSR-related discussions in Korea is still in its infancy even in the general companies. But online game industry has overseas export possibility, especially high profit in another country. The complete preparation is the key to the rise and fall of online game, furthermore related companies.

  • Most of the games developed or marketed in the Chinese game market are developed and serviced in foreign countries or are produced in Korea (China) and marketed as services of foreign game companies. If China wants to become the world's game development powerhouse, I think that professional education in multiple methods is the top priority. In particular, I think that a specialized game design department is necessary at a university in China. In this paper, we investigate the game design departments of universities in the United States and the game development powers in South Korea and the Korean game development powers to analyze the educational system of the game design department. Through comparative analysis, a Chinese university finds the necessary elements when establishing a new game design department, and trains advanced game developers in the game field at the Chinese Department of Digital Media Arts. If this study is helpful to the game education in China, it will be studied in the future for the master's program and the doctoral program.

  • Online game has been made of total products which user was given the experimental properties of a variety such as fun and the total of hardware and software products. Through this processes, The company earned a profitable benefits, in addition to the user was given satisfactory service. In this sense the parts of the game production process, the service earlier in the game testing a variety of ways needs to the user through the game as a condition for providing the content can be. Contact a professional game testing job is done systematically through the game's completion of a game developed by companies to see that service to complement previous significant. In this study, search for independent testing cases and the systematical cases as experts needs a range of the testing services.

Effects of Online Game Service Quality on Customer Satisfaction and Loyalty (온라인 게임 서비스품질이 고객만족도와 충성도에 미치는 영향분석)

  • The considerable progress of IT industry has changed the industrial structure and lifestyle of our society. One of the remarkable fields of IT industry is online game industry. It showed rapid growth for the past decade. But in recent years online game industry faced with the limit of its growth for a number of reasons. To overcome such situation, online game companies should improve functions of game and analyze their customer's needs for sustainable growth through increasing customer satisfaction and loyalty. The purpose of the study is to investigate and evaluate the factors of online game service quality and the relation of customer satisfaction and loyalty. SPSS 14.0 and AMOS 7.0 are used for experimental research. Through reliability and validity test, service quality factors influencing the customer satisfaction are appeared to be 5 latent variables(reliability, responsiveness, assurance, empathy, tangibles). In addition, by structural equation model and covariance structural model, the result showed that empathy is the most influenced factor to customer satisfaction and customer satisfaction has positive effect on customer loyalty. The results of this research have important implications for explaining an mechanism for service quality of online game, customer satisfaction and loyalty and they might provide operational guidelines to the online game service company.

Study on Consumer Problems Related to Use of Online Game Services by Type and Age (온라인게임 서비스 이용 소비자의 연령별.유형별 소비자문제 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the types of consumer problems involving the use of online game services in Korea. This study analyzed the consumer damage cases by age and type that were reported to the Korea Consumer Protection Board (KCPB). The results of this study are as follows: The online game complaints varied by age. In the case of children, most complaints involved phone charging online game fees without parents' consent. There were similarities in the victimization of teens and children according to reason for complaint, handling result and type of damage. However, based on method of charging, mobile phone and credit card payments were causes in the case of teen victimization. Meanwhile, complaints among adults showed more complexity than the previous two groups such as cases relating to online game companies illegally seizing game items and game accounts, and charging fees for unused services caused by identity theft. By type of charging method, most complaints involved phone and mobile phone payments. According to the analysis result of online game victims, the monetary damage of consumers did not differ among socio-demographic variables such as age, residence, gender and occupation but there was difference in the method of charging. In the handling period, differences could be seen by age, year, gender and type of damage.

Analyzing the Ecosystem of the Domestic Online Game Industry : Focusing on the Linkage between Developers and Publishers (국내 온라인 게임 산업 생태계 분석 : 개발사-퍼블리셔 관계를 중심으로)

  • This study aims to analyze the structure and characteristics of the domestic online game industry using network analysis. In particular, two-mode network analysis is employed to measure the network structure, centrality, and cluster for two types of online game platforms, online games and mobile games, from 1996 to 2014. We also conduct a dynamic analysis to capture the structural changes in the ecosystem by internal and external environmental changes before and after turning point for each online game platform. It is revealed that the online game econsystem has the higher number of clusters and higher concentration ratio than those of mobile game ecosystem. In dynamic analysis, both platforms exhibit similar trends over time with the increasing number of clusters, enlargement of largest cluster's size, and decreasing concentration ratio. This study is expected to provide fruitful implications for strategic decision making of online game companies and policy making for the online game industry.

  • In this paper, many game companies seek better optimization and easy-to-apply logic to prolong the game's lifespan and provide a better game environment for users. Therefore, research will be showing the game's key input response method called RoS (Response of Speed). The purpose of the method is to simultaneously perform various motions with the character showing natural motion without errors even if the character's control key is duplicated. This method is for the developers so they can reduce bugs and development time in future game development. To be used with quickly generating game environments, the new method compares with the popular motion method, so which method is faster and can adapt to diverse games. The paper suggested that the Response of Speed method is a better method for optimizing frames and reducing the number of reacting seconds by showing a faster response and speed). With the method popularity of scrollers, many 2D cross-scroll games follow the formula of Dash, Shoot, Walk, Stay, and Crouch. With the development of game engines, it is becoming easier to implement them. Therefore, although the method presented in the above paper differs from the popular method, it is expected that there will be no great difficulty in applying it to the game because transplantation is easy. In the future, we plan to study to minimize the delay of each connection of the character motion so that the game can be optimized to best.

  • Approaches to find hidden values using various and enormous amount of data are on the rise. As big data processing becomes easier, companies directly collects data generated from users and analyzes as necessary to produce insights. User-based data are utilized to predict patterns of gameplay, in-game symptom, eventually enhancing gaming. Accordingly, in this study, we tried to analyze the gaming strategy and user activity patterns utilizing Battlegrounds in-game data to detect the in-game hack.
