An airborne gravity survey using a helicopter was carried out in October 2008, offshore along the northern Noto Peninsula, to understand the shallow and regional underground structure. Eleven flight lines, including three tie lines, were arranged at 2 km spacing within 20 km of the coast. The total length of the flight lines was ~700 km. The Bouguer anomalies computed from the airborne gravimetry are consistent with those computed from land and shipborne gravimetry, which gradually decrease in the offshore direction. So, the accuracy of the airborne system is considered to be adequate. A local gravity low in Wajima Bay, which was already known from seafloor gravimetry, was also observed. This suggests that the airborne system has a structural resolution of ~2 km. Reduction of gravity data to a common datum was conducted by compiling the three kinds of gravity data, from airborne, shipborne, and land surveys. In the present study, we have used a solid angle numerical integration method and an iteration method. We finally calculated the gravity anomalies at 300 m above sea level. We needed to add corrections of 2.5 mGals in order to compile the airborne and shipborne gravity data smoothly, so the accuracy of the Bouguer anomaly map is considered to be nearly 2 mGal on the whole, and 5 mGals at worst in limited or local areas.

모든 원자력관련시설들은 지진으로부터 공공에 아무런 피해를 주지 않는 안전한 설계를 위하여, 일반구조물인 건물, 교량 등의 설계$\cdot$건설을 위하여 정해져 있는 내진설계법규보다도 훨씬 보수적으로 내진설계를 규정하는 원자력법규에 따라 설계 건설되고 있다. 국내의 원자력법규에 정해진 설계기준지진은 안전정지지진(Safe Shutdown Earthquake, SSE)이라 하며, 국내의 원자력발전소 및 원자력관련시설은 안정정지지진의 지반가속도 크기를 0.2g(g는 중력가속도, 1g= 1,000gal=980cm/$sec^2$)로 정하여 사용되고 있다.

A 2.5 kb aga gene encoding ${\alpha}$-galactosidase (${\alpha}$-Gal) from Leuconostoc mesenteroides SY1 was cloned into pSJE, an E. coli-Leuconostoc shuttle vector. The recombinant plasmid, pSJEaga, was introduced into Leuconostoc citreum KCTC3526 (ATCC49370) by electroporation. Transcription level of aga was the highest in cells grown on raffinose (1%, w/v) followed by cells grown on galactose, melibiose, fructose, glucose, and sucrose. Western blot using antibodies against ${\alpha}$-Gal showed similar results to slot-blot results and enzyme activity measurements. All the results indicated that the aga was successfully expressed in L. citreum and its transcription was under the carbon catabolite repression (CCR).

Let $k$ be a real abelian field and $k_{\infty}$ be its $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension for an odd prime $p$. Let $A_n$ be the Sylow $p$-subgroup of the ideal class group of $k_n$, the $nth$ layer of the $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension. By using the main conjecture of Iwasawa theory, we have the following: If $p$ does not divide $\prod_{{{\chi}{\in}\hat{\Delta}_k},{\chi}{\neq}1}B_{1,{\chi}{\omega}^{-1}$, then $A_n$ = {0} for all $n{\geq}0$, where ${\Delta}_k=Gal(k/\mathbb{Q})$ and ${\omega}$ is the Teichm$\ddot{u}$ller character for $p$. The converse of this statement does not hold in general. However, we have the following when $k$ is of prime conductor $q$: Let $q$ be an odd prime different from $p$. and let $k$ be a real subfield of $\mathbb{Q}({\zeta}_q)$. If $p{\mid}{\prod}_{{\chi}{\in}\hat{\Delta}_{k,p},{\chi}{\neq}1}B_{1,{\chi}{\omega}}-1$, then $A_n{\neq}\{0\}$ for all $n{\geq}1$, where ${\Delta}_{k,p}$ is the $Gal(k_{(p)}/\mathbb{Q})$ and $k_{(p)}$ is the decomposition field of $k$ for $p$.

A single specimen of Lepidocybium flavobrunneum (910.0 mm standard length) in the family Gempylidae, was collected off northwestern Jeju Island, Korea on April 28, 2016. The species is characterized by a blackish body, very low first dorsal fin spines, second dorsal fin rays followed by six finlets, anal fins followed by five finlets, caudal peduncle with a large keel flanked by two small supplementary keels, and a lateral line with an irregular wave pattern. Here, we propose the new Korean names "Heuk-gal-chi-ggo-chi-sok" for the genus Lepidocybium and "Heuk-gal-chi-ggo-chi" for the species L. flavobrunneum.

Gravity variations due to the 2011 Tohoku (M9.0) earthquake, which occurred at the plate boundaries near the northeastern coast of Japan, were estimated through the GRACE spherical harmonic (Stokes) coefficients derived from the CSR. About -5 μGal gravity variation by the GRACE data was found in the back-arc basin area with respect to a reference gravity model. The mean gravity variations in the back-arc basin area and the Japan Trench area were -4.4 and -3.2 μGal in order. The small negative gravity variations around the Japan Trench area can be interpreted by both crustal dilatation and the seafloor topography change in comparison with the large negative gravity variations in the back-arc basin area by co-seismic crustal dilatation of the landward plate. From the results of the gravity variations, vertical displacements generated from relatively short wavelength caused by the earthquake were estimated by use of multi-beam bathymetric measurements obtained from JAMSTEC. The maximum seafloor topography changes of about ±50 m were found at west side of the Japan Trench axis by the earthquake. The seafloor topography change by the megathrust earthquake can be considered as the results of the landslide of the seafloor throughout the landward side.

Gamma irradiation was applied to reduce egg allergy. Ovalbumin (OVA), an egg white protein, was used as model allergen and was gamma-irradiated at 3, 5, or 10 kGy in an aqueous state (2.0 mg/mL). The changes in allergenic and antigenic properties of OVA resulted from gamma irradiation were monitored by ELISA with serum from egg-hypersensitive patients (H-IgE), and mouse monoclonal IgG (M-IgG) or rabbit polyclonal IgG (R-IgG). The binding ability of H-IgE to irradiated OVA was dose-dependently reduced. However, IgGs from animal did better recognize 3 or 5 kGy-irradiated OVA. In the evaluation of immune reactivity using blind test, the reactivity of H-IgE rapidly decreased depending upon the irradiation dose. However, the reactivities of M-IgG and R-IgG was higher at 5 and 3 kGy-irradiated OVA than non-irradiated control. The results provide a new possibility to use irradiation process for reducing the allergenicity of egg white.

A single specimen (506 mm SL) of Gempylus serpens, belonging to the family Gempylidae, order Perciformes, was firstly collected from Jeju Island, Korea in April 2013. This specimen was characterized by having the lower jaw protruded than upper jaw; three big fangs on upper jaw; five dorsal finlets and seven anal finlets; two lateral lines split at the dorsal origin, upper line interrupted at the end of the first dorsal fin, but lower line extend to the caudal fin base. The new Korean name "Se-jang-gal-chi-ggo-chi-sok" is proposed for the genus Gempylus, and "Se-jang-gal-chi-ggo-chi" for the species G. serpens.

Fabry disease (FD) is an X-linked inborn error of glycoshpingolipid metabolism resulting from mutation in the enzyme ${\alpha}$-galactosidase A gene. The disease is an X-linked lipid storage disorder and the lack of ${\alpha}$-Gal A causes an intracellular accumulation of glycosphingolipids, mainly globotriaosylceramide (Gb-3). Measurement of Gb-3 in plasma has clinical importance for monitoring after enzyme replacement therapy for confirmed FD patients. Using electrospray ionization MS/MS we had developed, a simple, rapid, and highly sensitive analytical method for Gb-3 in plasma was used for the purpose of screening FD among high risk groups in Korean population. To date, no comprehensive results for FD screening have been performed and reported in Korea. We screened 1,100 outpatients from 13 hospitals (including clinics) to assess the incidence of FD among patients in high risk groups. For patients with borderline level amount of Gb-3, we repeated Gb-3 or performing complementary or confirmative assay with ${\alpha}$-Gal A activity and DNA mutaion analysis for confirmation diagnosis. Of 1,100 we diagnosed 3 FD with 2 classical type and 1 carrier (0.27%).

We report an unrecorded species of Patrinia in Korea, P. monandra C. B. Clarke. This species was found from Neasosa, Buan-gun, Prov. Jeollabuk-do, Sanghwangbong and Bogildo, Wando-gun, Prov. Jeollanam-do in the southwest of Korea. We named 'Gin-dook-gal' as a common name of this species. It is easily distinguishable from Patrlnia villosa (Thunb.) Juss. by the characteristics such as lemon yellow corolla, one (sometimes three) stamen(s) and fruit fused with large bracteole-wing orbiculate.
