지리산(智異山) 고로쇠나무의 수액채취(樹液採取)가 임목생육(林木生育)에 미치는 영향(影響) (Effects of Sap Collection on Trees Growth in Acer mono og Mt. Jiri)

  • 고로쇠나무 수액채취시 천공으로 인한 수목의 피해 여부를 판단하기 위해 천공수별로 수액채취 후의 유합과정과 직경생장을 조사하였다. 유합은 조사기간 동안 천공 수 10개소인 임목이 천공 수 1 개소, 3개소, 5개소인 임목보다 빠르게 이루어졌으며 자연상태에서 천공은 15개월만에 모두 유합되었다. 천공 수별 직경생장은 각각 무처리가 0.54 mm, 1개소가 0.60 mm, 3개소가 0.64 mm, 5개소가 0.33 mm, 10개소가 0.31 mm로 나타났다. 유합재료별 유합과정은 DB도포제, 스티로폼, 무처리, 죽초액의 순으로 진행되었으며, DB도포제를 처리했을 경우의 천공은 4개월 만에 유합되는 것으로 나타났다. 그러므로 천공으로 인한 고로쇠나무의 피해를 최소화하고 지속적인 수액자원을 확보하기 위해서는 DB도포제를 이용하여 빠른 기간 내에 천공이 유합되도록 하여야 할 것으로 사료된다.

Tree-Ring Analysis for Understanding Growth of Larix kaempferi

  • The present study conducted a stem analysis to trace growth information of Japanese larch (Larix kaempferi) and predict the future changes in growth volume. For this purpose, six L. kaempferi trees over 47 years old were cut at 1-2 m intervals from a height of 0.2 m, and circular plates of 5 cm thickness were collected for stem analysis. The analysis indicated that approximately 1-8 years are required to grow up to chest height. The annual height and diameter growth increased rapidly until the trees are 15 years old and gradually decreased after 20 years. The volume of 30-year-old trees in Oegam-ri forests, which were well-managed after artificial reforestation, was 0.4837 m3, whereas that in unmanaged Singi-ri forests was 0.1956 m3. Although the volume of individual trees differed greatly depending on the forest management status, it was found that the volume increased by 1.67-1.76, 2.49, and 3.49 times at 40, 50, and 60 years age, respectively, compared to the legal harvesting age 30. Therefore, factors such as the carbon dioxide reduction effect, forest management benefits, and the condition of trees at the site should be considered before harvesting trees.

아파트 단지 지하주차장 상부에 식재된 교목의 생장 특성에 관한 연구 (Studies on the Growth Characteristics of the Trees in Parking Lot in the Apartment Complex)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the growth characteristics of artificially planted trees on top of the underground parking lots. The trees were planted 17 years ago and are now in good condition. The survey results are as follows. The planting depth of the trees was 0.9 - 1.3m. The horizontal roots of the trees were distributed in the depth of 0.2m ~ 0.6m, Growth condition was also considered to be good. Also, in the case of the straight root of the trees, the pine tree(Pinus densiflora) grew near the bottom but tree root was very thin, and the Japanese hackberry tree(Celtis sinensis) and the zelkova tree(Zelkova serrata) were seemed to bend at the bottom and to grow by changing direction. When trees were planted on artificial ground, the roots grew well horizontally, and the forces of growing vertically were much weakened. because the plants were planted in earth ball state. As a result, it was considered that the roots would hardly penetrate the bottom-pressing concrete floor.

  • 본 연구는 자연상태에서 자란 12종의 왜소개체에 있어 목부구조의 변이에 대한 왜소생장의 영향을 검토하였다. 통수요소 및 섬유의 길이와 접선직경이 정상개체보다 왜소개체에서 더 짧고 좁게 나타났다. 방사조직의 높이도 정상개체보다 왜소개체에서 낮았다. 동일 연륜의 방사폭과 연륜내 세포수는 정상개체보다 왜소개체에서 좁고 적었다. 송백류에서 춘재에 대한 추재의 비는 정상개체보다 왜소개체에서 높게 나타났다. 피자식물의 도관요소의 mesomorphy 정도는 정상개체보다 왜소개체에서 낮았다. 이와 같이 왜소생장은 수분결핍과 같은 환경요인에 의해 극도로 느린 생장을 한 결과로 해석된다.

An Analysis of Permanantly Shaded Areas and the Defect Rate of Landscape Trees in Apartment Complexes Using Daylight Simulations

  • Background and objective: The purpose of this study was to provide basic data on trees that can be used for planting design and construction for permanently shaded areas by grasping the growth status of trees according to the daylight conditions of the outdoor spaces of apartment complexes. Methods: On the recently completed apartment complexes, daylight conditions were analyzed by using daylight simulations utilizing Solar Access Analysis of Ecotect Analysis. With a criteria for assessment of tree condition, the defect rate of trees planted in permanently shaded areas and green spaces with good daylight conditions was analyzed to suggest trees applicable to permanently shaded areas. The first tree survey was conducted from November 18, 2019 to February 15, 2020, focusing on trees planted in permanently shaded areas, and the second tree survey of all the trees planted on the study sites including permanently shaded areas was conducted from March 16 to March 30, 2020. Results: Evergreen trees which are classified as shade intolerant trees including Pinus densiflora, Thuja occidentalis, and Abies holophylla showed a higher defect rate of trees among the trees planted in permanently shaded areas. Taxus cuspidata, Zelkova serrata, Cornus kousa, Chionanthus retusus and Acer palmatum which are classified as shade tolerant trees and shade moderate tolerance trees seemed to be able to be used in the plant design of permanently shaded areas in apartment complexes because the trees showed good growth and a low tree defect rate. In addition, although it was excluded from the analysis due to a small number of samples, Sorbus commixta and Prunus cerasifera var. atropurpurea also can be used for planting in permanently shaded areas. Conclusion: The daylight simulation technique used to analyze permanent shaded areas in this study can be used as an analysis tool considering the daylight environment at the stages of design and construction, and additional research will be required to analyze tree growth according to daylight conditions through data accumulation and monitoring by managing records throughout the entire life cycle of trees in the process of planting and maintenance.

도시공원 조경수목 식재 평가 및 평가등급 적용 방안 - 인천광역시 송도 해돋이공원을 대상으로 - (Planting Evaluations for the Landscaping Tree and Application Plan by Assessment Grade in the City Park - A Case Study of Haedoji Park, Songdo, Incheon Metropolitan City -)

  • 본 연구는 인천광역시 송도 해돋이공원의 공간기능에 따른 식재개념 적정성 검토, 식재구조 현황, 공간별 식재된 수목에 대해 형태평가와 생육평가를 통해 현재 식재되고 있는 조경수목의 형태 및 생육상태 문제점을 도출하고, 이를 개선하기 위한 평가 적용 체계를 제안하고자 수행하였다. 공간기능에 따른 식재개념 적정성 평가 결과 녹음기능이 필요한 공간 중 29.5%만 녹음식재지이었고, 58.7%는 시각적 경관식재지, 11.8%는 완충식재지이었다. 이는 시설물 중심 공간구성에 따른 식재면적 부족과 녹음기능을 수행할 수 없는 어린 수목을 식재하였기 때문인 것으로 판단되었다. 식재구조 현황에서는 식재기능 향상을 위해서는 각 식재개념에 따른 적정한 식재종, 식재 구조, 밀도, 규격, 생육상태 등을 고려한 식재가 필요할 것으로 판단되었다. 조경수목 평가 조사는 완충공간에서 22종 209주, 녹음공간에서 8종 71주, 시각적 경관공간에서 16종 266주, 생태적 경관공간에서 4종 54주로 총 28종 600주의 조경수목을 대상으로 수목평가를 실시하였다. 수목평가 결과 수목 형태평가 점수는 평균 56.6점, 수목 생육평가 점수는 평균 76.0점으로 평가되었다. 수목평가 점수는 모두 점수별로 등급화하였고 공간별, 수종별로 통계처리하여 유의성을 검증하였다. 본 연구에서는 수목평가 결과를 활용하여 공간기능별 수목 기준 도출 및 적정 식재개념을 적용하였다. 공간별 수목 형태평가 결과를 식재개념에 적용하면 완충식재는 기능성이 강조되므로 형태평가 등급이 가장 낮은 E등급, 생태적 경관식재는 다양성과 자연성이 강조되므로 D등급, 녹음식재는 이용성이 강조되므로 주간에서 분지된 가지의 높이를 고려한 수종 선택으로 C등급, 시각적 경관식재는 미적가치성이 강조되므로 A등급과 B등급을 각각 적용할 수 있었다. 공간별 수목 생육평가 결과를 식재개념에 적용해 보면 식재기반을 기준으로 양호와 불량으로 구분하여 완충식재, 시각적 경관식재, 생태적 경관식재에서는 생육평가 A등급부터 E등급까지 식재가 가능하였고, 녹음식재에서는 A등급부터 C등급까지 식재가 가능하였다.

Ecophysiological Responses of Northern Birch Forests to the Changing Atmospheric CO2 and O3 Concentrations

  • The effects on birch (Betula spp.) of elevated carbon dioxide ($CO_2$) and ozone ($O_3$), which are both increasing in the troposphere, are surveyed in detail based on the literature. Birches establish themselves in the open field after disturbances, and then become dominant trees in temperate or boreal forests. Ecophysiological approaches include the measurement of photosynthesis, biomass, growth, and survival of seedlings and trees. Elevated $CO_2$ levels give rise to a net enhancement of the growth of birch trees, whereas high $O_3$ generally reduces growth. Although the effects of the two are opposed, there is also an interactive effect. Basic physiological responses of the single genus Betula to $CO_2$ and $O_3$ are set out, and some data are summarized regarding ecological interactions between trees, or between trees and other organisms.

자근발생이 부지화 감귤나무의 수체 생육과 뿌리내 양분함량에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Occurrence of Scion Root on the Growth and Root Nutrient Contents of 'Shiranuhi' Mandarin Hybrid grown in Plastic Film House)

  • BACKGROUND: 'Shiranuhi' mandarin is a major cultivar among all late ripening type of citrus, and is widely cultivated in Korea. However, many farmers have reported scion root problems in their orchard resulting in reduced flowering and fruiting. It is necessary that the physiology of scion-rooted 'Shiranuhi' mandarin trees is further understood. METHODS AND RESULTS: This experiment was conducted to understand the growth response and physiology of scion-rooted 'Shiranuhi' mandarin hybrids. In our study, 'Shiranuhi' mandarin trees were divided into two groups: trees without scion roots (control) and trees with scion roots. The experiment was conducted in Seogwipo of Jeju, with ten replicates for each group. Growth of trees with scion roots was more vigorous and the trees were taller than the controls. Tree height and trunk diameter of scion-rooted trees were significantly higher than those of control trees. Exposed length of rootstocks of scion-rooted trees was significantly lower (by about 2 cm) than that of control trees (8.6 cm). In terms of root nutrition, carbon contents of scion-rooted trees was significantly lower than that of control trees, but nitrogen and potassium concentrations in scion roots were significantly higher than those in control roots. CONCLUSION: Based on the results, we infer that growth of scion-rooted trees was very vigorous and the content of nitrogen in these roots was higher than that in the control tree roots. Thus, the carbon/nitrogen ratio of scion roots was significantly lower than that of the control roots.

M.7 및 M.9에 접목된 '산사' 사과나무의 대목 노출 길이가 영양생장 및 생산량에 미치는 영향 (Influence of the Exposed Length of Rootstock on Vegetative Growth and Productivity of 'Sansa' Apple Trees Grafted on M.7 or M.9)

  • M.7 rootstock is moderately resistant to fire blight. However, M.7 is generally too vigorous for high-density apple systems, but it can be grafted onto cultivars that exhibit weak tree growth, such as 'Sansa'. This study investigated the vegetative growth, yield, and fruit quality of 'Sansa' apple trees grafted on M.7 or M.9 rootstocks to assess the feasibility of establishing domestic high-density apple systems using M.7 and to determine the optimum exposure length for rootstocks. Trees were planted with exposed rootstock lengths of 5, 10, and 15 cm. The vegetative growth of apple trees grafted onto M.7 was greater than that of M.9 and vegetative growth tended to decrease as the exposed length of rootstock increased. However, the differences in yield per tree, average weights, soluble solids contents, and titratable acidity due to the rootstock and its exposure length varied. The accumulated yield over a 10 year period and the yield efficiency of M.7 were lower than that of M.9 and the yield efficiency tended to decrease as the exposed length of rootstock increased. When apple trees were grafted onto M.9, biennial bearing and tree vigor weakening occurred if the exposed length of the rootstock was over 10 cm. Conversely, when apple trees were grafted onto M.7, vegetative growth was excessive if the exposed length of rootstock was below 10 cm. Based on the results from this study, the optimum M.7 and M.9 exposure lengths for 'Sansa' were 15 cm and 5 cm, respectively.

부산시 노거수의 공간구성에 관한 연구 -생육환경 및 배치형태를 중심으로- (A study on old trees as they relate to the organization of space in Pusan -Attaching importance to the growth environment and arrangement form in space-)

  • This study is intended to revaluate old tree, five of the shot of the Natural Monument and 66 shot trees under protection in the city at present. The study covers distribution, management of usage, investigation and research into various matters relating to the situation of old trees in Pusan. Because 60% of the old trees selected for protection is on private land, citizens have difficulty gaining access to them. Also space for growth is impinged on by various urban facilities. Some trees have problems of growth because the land is covered with cement and asphalt. As regards space for old trees, many places have been destroyed due to the lack of protection fences and the failure to establish a guidance board. Only 40% of the space has been set aside for rest. In these places the establishment of rest areas, benches and handy chairs is needed. And there are 20 holy places where people observe religious ceremonies. As for space security necessary for old trees according to trunk width, the minimum trunk width and availale area needed are more than 1:1.5, but less than 30% have the necessary space. The growth of many old trees is threatended because of the small apace for growth. The prescription of the boundary space is divided between inside and outside. This indicates the domain nature and space rank of the old tree. It can be classified into five forms for research purposes. The elements for prescription of critical space outside are connected with the security of space, and the elements relating to inside space portray the conditions for sensitive growth according to the institution and the ground conditions. The open and closed nature of old tree space has some connection with the relationship between usage and the intimacy of the user. Most of the spaces for old trees can't be used or are difficult to gain access to, so it is necessary to secure enough space for them. The 18 places, despite having easy access, are near farmland, hills or forest. So the intimacy factor is low, and the security of space of the old trees is not generally sufficient. Henceforth, it will be necessary to have security of area for old trees as well as maintenance control to protect them. Also the space should be used as a communal and recreation are in the city. It is the time to construct a landscaped area which people can easily approach, a place with a secure entrance where they can play, rest and converse.
