Performance Analysis of the GPS Receiver under High Acceleration and Jerk Environments

  • The GPS receiver developed by KARI for the satellite launch vehicle should operate under severe dynamic environments such as high acceleration and jerk. Several terrestrial tests including the outdoor centrifuge test are planed in order to verify performances of the GPS receiver before flight. This paper deals with preliminary test results of the GPS receiver using a GPS signal generator before the centrifuge test that is a performance test of the GPS receiver using live GPS satellite signals. Test methods of the GPS receiver for the satellite launch vehicle under high centripetal acceleration and jerk utilizing a GPS signal generator are described. The simulation results are also analyzed in this paper.

  • The accuracy of global navigation satellite system(GNSS) positioning has been studied during the last decades. Early GPS software was developed as monolithic tool in which all functions packed in the same software. But, these GPS software have the problems of the high cost of constructing system. close system architecture and the reusability. And there is a lack of interoperability between them because most of them have their own unique data format according to their application fields. In this paper, we have introduced requirements for design and specifications based on business process for the GPS system. commonly used to extract components from the requirements of the GPS business-based development process is presented. These components extracted by the process can be used to assemble components only. In particular, applications for developers to add features specific case without affecting the other components that can be modify the component.

  • In order to obtain continuous navigation information at low cost, we demonstrate, in this work, a position system which is constructed by integrating accelerometers with GPS. The proposed system eliminates vibration and noise elements of accelerometers by using Kalman filter. Calculating continuous navigation information is executed by unifying GPS position data and accelerations of moving and centripetal directions which affect the vehicle. Through simulations and experiments, we show that the performance of GPS can be improved by employing accelerometers. Our proposed system can provide stable and seamless position information where the GPS signal is unavailable due to obstruction like tunnels, and high buildings. The designed system can be implemented at low cost of circuit design and production, and satisfy various installation conditions.

  • GPS proved to very practical in the application of geodesy and surveying such Civil Engineering, control point surveying and the deformation surveying o( structure, but the accuracy of static GPS positioning is degraded at the sites which the visible satellites of GPS are less than 4, i.e. the urban area covered with the high building and the industrial zone. Thus, the combined GPS/GLONASS system was introduced to acquire the high accuracy of static positioning by a few satellites. So the combined GPS/GLONASS system show the good results at the sites which the accuracy of positioning is degraded due to few satellites, the cutoff of signal, and multipath in the urban area.

  • In this paper, we developed an adoptable deployment method to the transmitting antennas of a ground based GPS system for aircraft. Aircraft generally uses satellite providing GPS signals for accurate position information, but transfers to ground based GPS signals time to time due to jamming signals or bad weather. The position accuracy of the ground based GPS system is highly dependent on the number and position of the GPS transmitting antennas. In this research, we found an algorism to predict the DOP due to the location of the GPS transmitting antennas and had an accurate DOP 2.5 area into 3-dimension from 0 to 10 km by 12 transmitting antennas.

  • Recently, for positioning a train and synchronizing between equipments in railway environment, the utilization of GPS(Global Positioning System) is increasing. But, the defects of GPS are pointed out. The risk of dependence on only GPS is not neglectable. Therefore, we prepare the implementation of the future railway system through the research on the safety and reliability of applying GPS to railway system.

  • This paper is concerned with the vehicle platooning in the AHS (Automated Highway Systems). For this, a relative navigation system is developed for the vehicles operating as a platoon. The relative navigation system is based on two sensors including GPS and MMWR (Millimeter-Wave Radar) and the federated Kalman Iter processing measurements of them. The architecture of this system requires GPS measurements of a preceding vehicle via communication link.   • The GPS/INS integrated navigation system, which is one of the electronic equipments mounted on military aircraft store, can not directly receive GPS signals by the aircraft wing before the drop, so GPS navigation data is received from the aircraft and used for filter integration, afterwards, the integrated navigation is performed using the GPS information directly received through the antenna. In this case, it is possible to operate the mount in old aircraft without any modification of the aircraft when GPS data is transmitted using wireless. However, the delay occurs while the aircraft navigation data is transmitted to the integrated navigation filter of the aircraft store via wireless, which affects the time synchronization of the GPS measurement and the INS information, affecting the integrated navigation performance. In this paper, an algorithm to analyze and compensate the effect of generation and transmission delay that can occur when implementing GPS/INS integrated navigation system of aircraft store that receives GPS data via wireless.

  • GPS is an efficient system in surveying and car navigation. but it is difficult to catch minimum number of satellite when it is hindered by obstacle such as city area. GLONASS system doesn't have perfect constellation yet, but it has many similarities with GPS system in principle of point positioning and signal system. so, it is expected to be much efficient when it is used with GPS system. For the purpose of this, the coordinates of GPS and GLONASS system, the quality of time and frequency was investigated, and the algorithm of point positioning was made. also, the efficiency of GPS/GLONASS combination was presented by analysing the precision of 3D point positioning using C/A code and Yuma satellite orbit information.
