  • This paper describes issues of GPS network adjustment to determine coordinate sets of the $2^{nd}$ order national geodetic control points based on the Korean Geodetic Datum (KGD2002) which has been newly adopted in 2003, After outlining theoretical background of the GPS network processing, the adjustment procedure applied for this project is detailed. Throughout performing a series of minimally constrained adjustments, some outliers have been removed and magnitude of absolute and relative error for a stochastic modeling has been determined as 4mm+0.4ppm and 8mm+0.8ppm in the horizontal and vertical component, respectively. The over constrained adjustment by fixing the $1^{st}$ order control points was performed to derive final solution, indicating that the accuracy of the estimated coordinates was 2cm and 4cm in the horizontal and vertical component.

  • A rapidly developed satellite technology is used in comprehensive fields such as spatial data aquisition and applications. Especially a GPS positioning is expected to reinvigorate at the national reference system changes to ITRF(International Terrain Reference Frame). Currently the National Geographic Information Institute(NGII) issues a triangulation point coordinate by separating old and new coordinates and in the year of 2007 it will be scheduled to be changed ITRF. The triangulation point coordinate in Cheju area causes some problems due to the difference original observation and re-observation. Thus in this study a GPS observation is conducted after re-organizing geodetic network based on 1st and 2nd order triangulation in order to check the current triangulation points in Cheju area. After the GPS observation data analysis, stable points were extracted, proposed a geodetic network and its application.

  • GNSS receivers capable of tracking multiple Global Navigation Systems (GNSSs) simultaneously are widely used. In order to estimate accurate user position and velocity, it is necessary to consider the key elements that contribute to the interoperability of the different GNSSs. Typical examples are the time system and the coordinate system. Each GNSS is operated based on its own reference time system depending on when the system was developed and whether the leap seconds are applied. In addition, each GNSS is designed based on its own coordinate system based on earth model constant values. This paper addresses the interoperability issues from the viewpoint of Single Point Positioning (SPP) users utilizing multiple GNSS signals from GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, and Galileo. Since the broadcast ephemerides of each GNSS are based on their own time and coordinate systems, the time and the coordinate systems should be unified for any user algorithm. For this purpose, this paper proposes a method of converting each GNSS coordinate system into the reference coordinate system through Helmert transformation. The error of the broadcast ephemerides was calculated with the precise ephemerides provided by the International GNSS Service (IGS). The effectiveness of the proposed multi-GNSS correction and transformation method is verified using the Multi-GNSS Experiment (MGEX) station data.

  • The position fixing usually is determined by triangulation, traverse surveying and astronomy surveying. However, when the station is moving, it is impossible to determine its position continuously by the former method. By a satellite positioning method(GPS), this problem can be solved. In our study, we used two methods to determine the length and coordinate of a point position. One is a kinematic GPS method and the other is a static one. Each is based on carrier phase measurement and employs a relative position technique. We implemented observation experiments such as Geodimeter and DGPS(Differential GPS) successfully. To estimate the accuracy between the kinematic and static methods, we compared the results of Geodimeter, the kinematic, and the static. The results showed that the static is relatively a little more accurate than the kinematic. However, in the kinematic mode, when we received the GPS data for a long time, we found that the kinematic also had a high accuracy value for the length survey Finally, we applied the GPS to Jeju Harbor Breakwater to examine the applicability of GPS for coastal ocean structure based on the kinematics and the statics, respectively.

  • GPS is not able to be used for indoor positioning and currently most of techniques emerging to overcome the limit of GPS utilize private wireless networks. However, these methods require high costs for installation and maintenance, and they are inappropriate to be used in the place where precise positioning is needed as in indoor parking lots. This paper proposes a vehicular indoor positioning method based on QR-code recognition. The method gets an absolute coordinate through QR-code scanning, and obtain the location (an relative coordinate) of a black-box camera using the tilt and roll angle correction through affine transformation, scale transformation, and trigonometric function. Using these information of an absolute coordinate and an relative one, the precise position of a car is estimated. As a result, average error of 13.79cm is achieved and it corresponds to just 27.6% error rate in contrast to 50cm error of the recent technique based on wireless networks.

  • Mobile Mapping System needs system calibration of multi sensors. System calibration is defined as determination of spatial and rotational offsets between the sensors. Especially, EO parameters of GPS/INS require knowledge of the calibration to camera frame. The calibration parameters must be determined with the highest achievable accuracy in order to get 3D coordinate points in stereo CCD images. This study applies Boresight calibration for the calibration between GPS/INS and camera, and estimates the Performance of the calibration.

  • New geocentric geodetic datum has recently been realized in Korea, Korean Geodetic Datum 2002- KGD2002, to overcome problems due to the existing Tokyo datum, which had been used in this country since early 20th century. This transition will support modern surveying techniques, such as Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) and ensures that spatial data is compatible with other international systems. For this realization, very long baseline interferometry (VLBI) observations were initially carried out in 1995 to determine the coordinates of the origin of KGD2002 based on the International Terrestrial Reference Frame (ITRF). Continuous GPS observations were collected from 14 reference stations across Korea to compute the coordinates of 1st order horizontal geodetic control points. During the campaign, GPS observations were also collected at about 9,000 existing geodetic control points. In 2006, network adjustment with all data obtained using GPS and EDM since 1975 has been performed under the condition of fixing the coordinates of GPS continuous observation stations to compute coordinate measurements of the 2nd and 3rd geodetic control points. This paper describes the GPS campaigns which have been undertaken since 1996 and details of the network adjustment schemes. This is followed

  • For more accurate navigation, lever arm compensation is considered. The compensation method for GPS and an odometer is introduced and new compensation methods are proposed for an odometer to consider the effect of coordinate transformation errors and the scale factor error. The methods are applied to a GPS/INS/odometer integrated system and the simulation and experimental results show its effectiveness.
