Compact GPS Patch Antenna Using Variable Capacitor (가변 캐패시터를 이용한 초소형 GPS 패치 안테나)

  • Recently there have been much interest in the GPS antenna performance improvement. In this paper, we propose very small patch antenna for GPS band. The proposed antenna resonance frequency was adjusted using the ground plane and variable capacitor connected the frame. The fabricated antenna was used a FR4 substrate by considering the difficulty and economical efficiency. Antenna measurement results was obtained good characteristics of VSWR 1.2, the passive antenna gain -0.60 dBi, the active antenna gain of 29 dB in center frequency of 1575.42 MHz GPS band.

Shark Antenna for Vehicle TDMB and GPS Receiver (TDMB 및 GPS 수신용 전장용 샤크 안테나)

  • In this paper, a folded helical monopole antenna for TDMB receiving and a trapezoidal fractal microstrip patch antenna for GPS were designed and fabricated for the vehicle shark antenna. To minimize null which is generating toward antenna axis direction and to receive both vertical polarization and horizontal polarization for TDMB antenna, we fold 90 degree helical monopole element. GPS antenna to get wide bandwidth and gain improvement was designed an air substrate trapezoidal microstrip patch antenna. Fabricated TDMB and GPS antenna were measured for S11 and radiation pattern, and compared with a commercialized antenna. TDMB antenna shows 3 dB higher antenna gain and receiving signal strength than the commercial one. GPS antenna shows the gain of 4.31 dBi at the resonant frequency, which is $3{\sim}5\;dB$ higher gain over whole operating band and 135MHz wide bandwidth at 2:1 VSWR than the conventional ceramic antenna.

  • In this paper, a vehicle antenna for AM, FM, TDMB, GPS systems was designed and implemented. AM antenna loaded into small space of shark shape was designed by ferrite turn style antenna. For the FM and TDMB antenna, folded monopole antenna which helical is folded was applied. GPS antenna for achieving characteristics both bandwidth and gain improvement was designed microstrip patch that has air substrate and fractal structure. Receiving signal strengths by the measurement were presented for the AM, FM and TDMB antenna. AM signal strength was -65.7dBm, this strength is almost as same conventional pole antenna as -63.4dBm. It can be replaced conventional pole or glass antenna by the studied antenna. Signal strengths for FM and TDMB were -55.66 and -43.50dBm at center frequency, they are 5~10dB higher than conventional antenna. Measurements of bandwidth and gain for the GPS antenna showed 135 MHz under VSWR 2 : 1 and 4.31dBi, gains over GPS band were 3~5dB higher than ceramic patch antenna.

  • In this paper, circularly polarized micro-strip GPS antenna has been designed and fabricated. In order to improve of frequency properties, patch size, corner truncated size and feed positions were simulated using HFSS simulation program. Micro-strip GPS antenna was fabricated on the FR4 substrate of dielectric constant 4.4. The fabricated GPS antenna has that center frequency is 1.575GHz and insertion loss is -34.50dB.

단일 안테나 GPS수신기 기반 무인항공기의 자동 이착륙

  • GPS수신기는 항법센서로서 여러 분야에서 널리 사용되고 있다. 단일 안테나 GPS수신기로부터 일반적으로 위치와 속도 및 시간 정보를 얻을 수 있다. 그러나 고정익 항공기의 운동 특성을 고려하여 단일 안테나 GPS수신기의 측정치로부터 무인항공기의 자세를 추정할 수 있다. 이로써 단일안테나 GPS수신기를 이용하여 무인항공기의 자동 제어가 가능함을 이전 논문에서 보인 바 있다. 본 논문에서는 단일 안테나 GPS수신기를 무인항공기의 기본 센서로 사용하여 자동 이착륙이 가능함을 비행실험을 통해 보인다. 무인항공기의 반응속도와 강건성을 향상시키기 위해 rate gyros의 각속도 측정치를 이용한다. 또한 활주로에 자동착륙하기 위해서는 높은 정확도의 위치 정보가 필요하므로 DGPS를 이용하였다. 비행 실험 동안 무인항공기는 이륙에서 착륙까지 모든 과정을 자동 제어로 수행한다. 대부분 비행은 경로 제어로 이루어진다. 비행 실험 결과를 바탕으로 단일안테나 GPS수신기가 General Aviation 항공기나 무인항공기의 백업이나 저가의 제어 시스템을 위한 주 센서로서 사용이 가능할 것으로 판단된다.

A Study on Wearable GPS Antenna Integrated into Garment (의복에 실장되는 웨어러블 GPS 안테나에 대한 연구)

  • In recent years, wireless communication technologies in human body have received an increasing attention and the research on an antenna that can be worn also has been actively conducted. In this paper, an wearable antenna that can receive GPS signal frequency is proposed. The antenna was manufactured by using a copper polyester fabric with thickness of 0.08mm as a radiator and a ground plate, and a goatskin with thickness of 0.7mm as dielectric substrate. Cutting edges placed in diagonal direction of square patch in order to obtain a circular polarization characteristic, and the conductive cloth and leather was laminated by using a conductive epoxy. First, goatskin dielectric constant was obtained through the simulation and measurement of resonance frequency of the three square patch antennas with different size. On the basis of the results, an antenna operating in the GPS band was designed and the performance of the antenna was validated by making the experiment. The change of the characteristic of the antenna that is located on the shoulder parts of the clothing and wearing person were measured. And it was confirmed that the reception sensitivity has a similar level as compared to the commercially produced ceramic GPS antenna.

Performance Evaluation for 2.45GHz Antenna used for Container security Device(Con Tracer) (컨테이너 보안 장치(ConTracer)에 활용되는 2.45GHz 안테나에 대한 성능 검증)

  • In this paper, A Design of 2.45GHz and GPS antenna Integrated Board using Container security Device(ConTracer) for container cargo transportation is proposed and experimentally evaluate. Integrated antenna board include 2.4GHz chip and Ceramic GPS antenna is also consider the impact of RF interference based on simulation for applied to steel container. After a careful comparison and analysis a part of the container door for its best performance, We conduct tests to characterize. The proposed integrated antenna board is suitable for container cargo transportation application in steel container field.

  • For a GPS antenna to normally receive GPS satellite signals during full flight mission of a satellite launch vehicle, it should be installed on skin of the vehicle. The surface of a launch vehicle is drastically heated up due to aerodynamic heating effect during flight, so that the GPS antenna mounted on surface of the launch vehicle is directly exposed to extremely hot temperature environment. Hot temperature test specification of the GPS antenna, therefore, is severer than inner components. This paper describes that procedures and results of performance analysis of the GPS antenna for KSLV-I under hot temperature environment. The GPS antenna was not deformed physically and inner LNA(Low Noise Amplifier) operated normally without performance degradation.

  • The capability of accurate positioning and tracking is necessary to implement an unmanned autonomous driving system. The moving-baseline GPS Technique is a promising candidate to mitigate positioning errors of conventional GPS system. It provides accurate positioning data based on the phase difference between received signals from multiple GPS antennas mounted on the same platform. In this paper, we propose a dual-band dual-circularly-polarized antenna suitable for the moving-baseline GPS. The proposed antenna operates at GPS L1 and L2 bands, and fed by the side of the antenna instead of the bottom. The antenna is firstly designed by calculating theoretical values of key parameters, and then optimized by means of 3D full-wave simulation software. Simulation and measurement results show that the optimized antenna offers 6.1% and 3.7% bandwidth at L1 and L2, respectively, with axial ratio bandwidth of more than 1%. The size of the antenna is $73mm{\times}73mm{\times}6.4mm$, which is small and low-profile.
