  • This study reviewed the current status and problems of sewerage system in Korea and then proposed possible methods to correct the problems. Also, evaluation of future development in sewerage system is included. It can be summarized as follows : 1. Investment in sewerage system is relatively low . 0.23% of GNP, Considering that the investment portion is 0.35% in OECD and 0.63% in Japan, it should be increased further. 2. The reasons wily the investment in sewerage system is low can be ' (1) Low priority is given to the investment in sewerage system. Local government builds and operates its own wastewater treatment plant. Local government as well as residents prefer to invest their money in roadwork, housing and parks to in wastewater treatment facilities because of greater investment effects. (2) Besides capital investment, more maintenance cost is needed for sewerage system. Proper operation of wastewater treatment facilities requires a well-trained operator. Because of public conception that operation of wastewater treatment facility is a dirty job, it is difficult to find a well-trained operator. (3) It is difficult to estimate the effect of sewerage system (4) Cost required to build and maintain wastewater treatment facility should be paid by people, who benefit from the facility. People to benefit are sometimes different from people to pay. 3. Advanced treatment is necessary to protect the bay aura and raw water source as well as to prevent eutrophication of lakes and ponds. 4. Wastewater treatment facility were mainly build in big cities during the decade of 1980. Followings should be solved first to expand the facilities. (1) Rapid repair and construction of sewer. (2) Technical development of wastewater treatment . Prevention of efficient and economical wastewater . Development of efficient and economical wastewater treatment techniques . Development of high-efficiency treatment using bioreactor . Reuse of wastewater treatment plant effluent (3) Sludge treatment and disposal . Composting of sludge cakes . Development of techniques to reduce the volume of sludge cake : incineration and reuse of sludge ash and slag. (4) Utilization of wastewater treatment facilities . Construction of community parks or sports families(ie, on the tops of the covered aeration tanks and sedimention tanks) Construction of wastewater treatment facilities under ground and of parking facilities and community parks above ground. (5) Education of wastewater treatment personal.

  • Background: Breast cancer is the most common malignancy in women worldwide and its incidence is generally increasing. In 2012, it was the second most common cancer in the world. It is necessary to obtain information on incidence and mortality for health planning. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between the human development index (HDI), and the incidence and mortality rates of breast cancer in the world in 2012. Materials and Methods: This ecologic study concerns incidence rate and standardized mortality rates of the cancer from GLOBOCAN in 2012, and HDI and its components extracted from the global bank site. Data were analyzed using correlation tests and regression with SPSS software (version 15). Results: Among the six regions of WHO, the highest breast cancer incidence rate (67.6) was observed in the PAHO, and the lowest incidence rate was 27.8 for SEARO. There was a direct, strong, and meaningful correlation between the standardized incidence rate and HDI (r=0.725, $p{\leq}0.001$). Pearson correlation test showed that there was a significant correlation between age-specific incidence rate (ASIR) and components of the HDI (life expectancy at birth, mean years of schooling, and GNP). On the other, a non-significant relationship was observed between ASIR and HDI overall (r=0.091, p=0.241). In total, a significant relationship was not found between age-specific mortality rate (ASMR) and components of HDI. Conclusions: Significant positive correlations exist between ASIR and components of the HDI. Socioeconomic status is directly related to the stage of the cancer and patient's survival. With increasing the incidence rate of the cancer, mortality rate from the cancer does not necessariloy increase. This may be due to more early detection and treatment in developed that developing countries. It is necessary to increase awareness of risk factors and early detection in the latter.

  • The recycling process of ELV consists of three phases: dismantling, shredding and ASR treatment. Dismantling is the collection of reusable parts and the most important phase. The types of dismantling system is diverse and each country has different characteristics. Therefore, the selection of a suitable ELV dismantling system for a target country is dependent on the characteristics of each country. But the characteristics of country data changes every year and is insufficient and ambiguous. In this study, fuzzy inference and modified QFD (Quality function deployment) methods are utilized to solve the problems. The fuzzification of characteristics data for each country, customized rules and decision of modified QFD matrix are developed, which is applied to sample countries.

  • Cathode material, $(Ba_{0.5}Sr_{0.5})_{0.99}Co_{0.8}Fe_{0.2}O_{3-\delta}$, for low temperature SOFC was prepared by the Glycine-Nitrate synthesis Process (GNP). Characteristics of the synthesized powders were studied with controlling the pH of a precursor solution. Highly acidic precursor solution increased a perovskite forming temperature. It is considered that Ba and Sr cannot complex by carboxylic acid group of glycine, because under highly acidic condition the caboxylic group mainly combined with H+ insead of alkaline earth cations. A lack of bond between cations and glycine resulted in selective precipitation of the elements during evaporation of the precursor solution. In case of using precursor solution with pH %2\~3$, a single perovskite phase was obtained at $1000^{\circ}C$. Polarization resistance of $(Ba_{0.5}Sr_{0.5})_{0.99}Co_{0.8}Fe_{0.2}O_{3-\delta}$ was measured by AC impedance spectroscopy from the two electrode symmetric cell. Area specific resistance of the $(Ba_{0.5}Sr_{0.5})_{0.99}Co_{0.8}Fe_{0.2}O_{3-\delta}$ air electrode at $500^{\circ}C\;and\;600^{\circ}C$ were $0.96{\Omega}{\cdot}cm^2\;and\;0.16{\Omega}{\cdot}cm^2$, respectively.

  • [ $Bi_xCe_{l-x}O_{2-x/2}$ ](BD C : Bismuth Doped Ceria) powders with x = 0.1, 0.2, and 0.3 were synthesized using the Glycine Nitrate Process (GNP). They were then calcined at $500^{\circ}C$ for 2 hand sintered in a pellet or rod form at 900, 1000 or $1100^{\circ}C$ for 4 h for characterization as the alternative electrolyte material for intermediate temperature solid oxide fuel cells. The BDC powder consisted of a single phase of $CeO_2-Bi_2O_3$ solid solution in the as-synthesized state as well as in the as-calcined state with a mean powder size of 4.5nm in the former state and 6.5 - 10.1nm in the latter. On the contrary, the second phase of $\alpha-Bi_2O_3$ was observed to have been formed in the sinter with its amount increasing roughly with increasing temperature or $Bi_2O_3$ content. The BOC powder was superior in sinterability to other alternative electrolyte materials such as GDC, ScSZ, and LSGM with the minimum sintering temperature for a relative density of $95\%$ or larger as low as $1100^{\circ}C$. The ionic conductivity of BOC increased with $Bi_2O_3$ content and the maximum value of 0.119 S/cm was obtained at $800^{\circ}C$ for $Bi_{0.3}Ce_{0.7}O_{1.85}$.

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to develop and to analyze the task of gerontological nurse practitioners (GNPs) in Korea. Methods: The definition of GNP and job description was developed based on developing a curriculum (DACUM) by 7 panels who have experienced in DACUM analysis and gerontological nursing. One hundred sixty nurses who were working at long term care facilities were participated. The questionnaire included frequency, importance, and difficulty of duties, tasks, and task elements. The data were collected in November 2006, analyzed by descriptive statistics. Results: The job description of GNPs in Korea revealed 5 duties, 23 tasks, and 86 task elements. On the all five duties, the highest duty in frequency and in importance was professional nursing care ($3.25{\pm}0.35$, $3.49{\pm}0.29$). But the highest duty in difficulty was research ($3.24{\pm}0.46$). 'Prevent health problem ($3.42{\pm}0.43$, $3.56{\pm}0.33$)', 'Teach other staffs ($2.83{\pm}0.77$, $3.39{\pm}0.43$)', 'Develop the evidence-based standards ($2.43{\pm}0.76$, $3.22{\pm}0.43$)', 'Develop the self ($2.81{\pm}0.65$, $3.26{\pm}0.42$)', and 'Participate the team activities' were the highest score in frequency and in criticality of tasks. 'Provide emotional support to older adults and families ($3.16{\pm}0.41$)', 'Counsel older adults and their families ($3.14{\pm}0.49$)', 'Do clinical research ($3.32{\pm}0.49$)', 'Quality insurance ($3.25{\pm}0.49$)', and 'Build collaborative system ($3.18{\pm}0.47$)' were perceived the most difficult tasks. Conclusion: The political efforts for the legislation of role and task of GNPs were needed.

  • 20mol% Gd-doped CeO2 ultrafine powders as a promising electrolyte for the low temperature solid ox-ide fuel cells were synthesized with particle sizes of 15-20 nm using glycine nitrate process(GNP) fol-lowed by sintering their pellets at 150$0^{\circ}C$ for various times in air and then the electrical properties of the sintered pellets were investigated. The sintering behaviors and electrical properties for the sintered 20 sintered mol% Gd-doped CeO2 pellets were analyzed using dilatometer and SEM and AC two-terminal impedance technique respectively. As the heating temperature increased the synthesized powder had the sintering behaviors to show the start of the significant shrink at temperature of about $700^{\circ}C$ and to show the end of the shrink at the temperature of about 147$0^{\circ}C$. When the pellets were sintered with the vaious times at 150$0^{\circ}C$ the temperatuer which the shrink had been already completed the grain sizes in the sintered 20 mol% Gd-doped GeO2 pellets increased with the increase of the sintering time but their electrical resis-tivities showed the minimum value at the sintering time of 10h. It is due that the pellet sintered for 10h had the minimum activation energy fior the electtrical conduction. Thus it is thought that the decrease of the activation energy with the increase of the sintering time to 10h is induced by the enhanced mi-crostructure like the decrease of pore amount and the grain growth and its increase with the sintering times more than 10h is induced by the increase of the amounts of the impurities such as Mg. Al and Si from the sintering atmosphere.

  • This study proposes a new numerical analysis method for assessing the outage cost of the composite power system with considering transmission system at load points. The proposed method comes from combination of the expected energy not served curve(EENSC) with the marginal outage cost function obtained at load points. Uncertainty of the outages of the generation and transmission systems was also included in this study. This study can be categorized into three processing parts as like as follows. Firstly, EENSC at load points was developed newly from the composite power system effective load duration curve which has been proposed by the authors. Secondly, this study proposes a new technical method for determining the coefficients of the marginal outage cost functions at load points in the composite power system(Generation and Transmission systems). It is a main key point that the mathematical expression for the marginal outage cost function at a load point is formulated and evaluated using relations between the GNP (or GDP) and the electrical energy demand at the load pint. Finally, the outage cost was calculated in this paper by combining the proposed EENSC with the marginal outage cost function evaluated at each load point. It is another important feature that the average costs for future at load points can be forescasted using the proposed approach. The effectiveness of the proposed new approach is demonstrated by the case studies with the IEEE-RTS.

  • Corrosion of metallic materials occurs by the reaction with corrosive environment such as atmosphere, marine, soil, urban, high temperature etc. In general, reduction of thickness and cracking and degradation are resulted from corrosion. Corrosion in all industrial facilities and infrastructure causes large economic losses as well as a large number of accidents. Economic loss by corrosion has been reported to be nearly 1-6% of GNP or GDP. In order to reduce corrosion damage of industrial facilities, corrosion map as well as a systematic investigation of the loss of corrosion in each industrial sector is needed. The Corrosion Science Society of Korea in collaboration with 15 universities and institutes has started to survey on the cost of corrosion and corrosion map of Korea since 2005. This work presents the results of the survey on cost of corrosion by Uhlig, Hoar, and input-output methods, and the evaluation of atmospheric corrosion rate of carbon steel, weathering steel, galvanized steel, copper, and aluminum in Korea. The total corrosion cost was estimated in terms of the percentage of the GDP of industry sectors and the total GDP of Korea. According to the result of Input/output method, corrosion cost of Korea was calculated as 2.9% to GDP (2005). Time of wetness was shown to be categories 3 to 4 in all exposure areas. A definite seasonal difference was observed in Korea. In summer and fall, time of wetness was higher than in other seasons. Because of short exposure period (12 months), significant corrosion trends depending upon materials and exposure corrosion environments were not revealed even though increased mass loss and decreased corrosion rate by exposure time.
