Using ground moving target indicators equipped with synthetic aperture radars for locating moving targets within a wide background clutter in a short time is an excellent method for monitoring traffic. Although the displaced phase center antenna (DPCA) technique and along track interferometry (ATI) are real time methods with low computational complexity, they are essential for reducing cases of false alarm that can result in poor performance. In this paper, we propose two detection methods using DPCA and ATI-the parallel fusion method and serial fusion method. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed detection methods are characterized by low probability of false alarm along with good performance. In particular, the serial fusion method possesses high detection probability along with low probability of false alarm (1/5th of the false alarm probability of the DPCA technique).
In tactical theater, it is crucial to detect ground moving targets and to locate them precisely. This problem can be resolved by using SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) sensors providing GMTI (Ground Moving Target Indication) capability. In general, to implement a robust GMTI sensor is not simple because of the strong competitions between target signals and clutter signals on the ground, and low speed of moving targets. Contrary to the case that a delay canceller is mostly suitable for ground surveillance radars, DPCA (Displaced Phase Centered Antenna) or STAP (Space Time Adaptive Processing) techniques have been adapted for GMT! function of modem airborne radars. In this paper, anew scheme of DPCA using two passive antennas with vertical separation is proposed, which also provides good clutter cancellation performance. The proposed scheme enables us to scan straight ahead of the carrying platform that is impossible with typical DPCA configuration. Simulations using various conditions have been performed to validate the proposed scheme, and the results are acceptable.

Ground moving target indicator(GMTI) using syntheticaperture radar(SAR) used for finding moving targets on wide background clutter in short time is one of good ways to monitor a traffic situation or an enemy's threat. Although displaced phase center antenna (DPCA) is a real time method with low computational complexity, there have been few studies about its performance against various ground clutters. Thus, we need to analyze GMTI performance for various ground clutters in order to design a suitable DPCA detector. In this paper, simulation results show that the conventional DPCA detector produces different performance in terms of detection rate and false alarm rate. In particular, the false alarm rate of heterogeneous or extremely heterogeneous clutter from urban area is higher than one of homogeneous clutter from natural area.
In this paper, if images are acquired in all-time situations through various sensors (EO/IR, SAR, GMTI, LiDAR) used for defense purposes, the images can be analyzed and expressed in augmented reality(AR). Various algorithms are used to process images with augmented reality, and depending on the situation, it is necessary to decide which algorithms to select and use. Through the performance comparison (error rate, processing time, accuracy) of SIFT, SURF, ORB, and BRISK, the representative augmented reality algorithm, it is analyzed and proposed which augmented reality algorithm is effective to use under various situations in the defense field.

An air-to-ground guidance missile aimed to hit a main battle tank(MBT) should detect a ground moving target and estimate the target position to guide. In this paper, we detect a front ground moving target by using FMCW(Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave) and estimate the position by forward-looking SAR(Synthetic Aperture Radar) via scanning certain front ground section by steering a beam with narrow beamwidth left to right mechanically. Also, by MLE(Maximum Likelihood Estimation), degree of how fast the target approach or recede from the radar can be figured out from the estimated radial velocity of the moving target. Subsequently, we generate a radar image via corrected matched filter from phase history including the radial velocity.

This paper describes an MMTI(Maritime Moving Target Indicator) for periscope detection in airborne radar. Firstly, we analyze the characteristics of sea clutter, sea targets. Secondly, we study the differences between GMTI(Ground Moving Target Indicator) and MMTI. This paper proposes an optimal MMTI operating environment and method. We also suggest a signal processing algorithm using STAP(Space-Time Adaptive Processing) for detecting small RCS target moving low speed. The detection probability for moving target with MDV(Minimum Detectable Velocity) is simulated under various RCS and multi-channel system. Finally, we analyze the major performance for range, velocity and azimuth accuracy.
SAR ground moving target indicator (GMTI) has long been an important issue for SAR advanced applications. As spatial resolution of space-borne SAR system has been significantly improved recently, the GMTI becomes a very useful tool. Various GMTI techniques have been developed particularly using multi-channel SAR systems. It is, however, still problematic to detect ground moving targets within single channel SAR images while it is not practical to access high resolution multi-channel space-borne SAR systems. Once a ground moving target is detected, it is possible to retrieve twodimensional velocities of the target from single channel space-borne SAR with an accuracy of about 5 % if moving faster than 3 m/s. This paper presents a quick-and-dirty method for detecting ground moving targets from single channel SAR single-look complex (SLC) images by differentiation. Since the signal powers of derivatives present Doppler centroid and rate, it is very efficient and effective for detection of non-stationary targets. The derivatives correlate well with velocities retrieved by a precise method with a correlation coefficient $R^2$ of 0.62, which is well enough to detect the ground moving targets. While the approach is theoretically straightforward, it is necessary to remove the effects of residual Doppler rate before finalizing the ground moving target candidates. The confidence level of results largely depends on the efficiency and effectiveness of the residual Doppler rate removal method. Application results using TerraSAR-X and truck-mounted corner reflectors validated the efficiency of the method. While the derivatives of moving targets remain easily detectable, the signal energy of stationary corner reflectors was suppressed by about 18.5 dB. It results in an easy detection of ground targets moving faster than 8.8 km/h. The proposed method is applicable to any high resolution single channel SAR systems including KOMPSAT-5.

SAR(Synthetic Aperture Radar) has characteristics well-suited for the measurement of geophysical parameters during day and night in all weather conditions. Recently, SAR data with high resolution acquired by satellites became available to the public. In such data, many features and phenomena of geometric structure of man-made objects and natural environments become observable. In this paper, we discuss main considerations including geometric distortion and coregistration for efficient utilization of high resolution SAR images. And, various advanced technologies in SAR application fields are introduced.

This study presents an imaging algorithm that can provide an image of a moving target in a multiple-input-multiple-output radar environment where multiple transmitting and receiving radars are fixed on the ground. The proposed algorithm, which is based on polar format processing using plane wave approximation, is shown to provide an unaliased image by using multiple transmitting radars even when the distances between the receiving radars are relatively large. We derive the conditions necessary to deploy the transmitting radars by which the resolution of the reconstructed image can be improved, while simultaneously reducing aliasing artifacts. Moreover, we offer a means of separating out each transmitting radar target echo. Finally, the performance of the proposed system is verified through a simulation.

This paper presents a ground-to-air bistatic radar system and its implementation algorithm, which resembles an SAR(synthetic aperture radar) reconstruction algorithm. Via cooperative working between a standoff transmitting radar and an array of ground based receiving radars, it detects and images moving targets under clutter in the air. In the proposed system, the whole receiving antenna aperture is synthesized by physical ground based radars, and thus, unlike conventional SAR, it does not require long illumination time of the target area. The reconstruction algorithm uses planewave approximation based polar format processing, which alleviates the requirement of positioning the receiving radars, which can cause grating lobes if not chosen properly. We derive a reconstruction algorithm including clutter suppression and discuss implementation issues, such as the resolution of a reconstructed image and the method of compensation for the irregularity of the receiving radars' positions. A simulation that validates the proposed algorithm is also shown.
