  • Occupant protection performance in frontal crashes has been developed and assessed for mainly front seat occupants over many years, and in recent years protection of rear seat occupants has also been extensively discussed. Unlike the front seats, the rear seats are often occupied by children seated in rear-facing or forward - facing child restraint systems, or booster seats. In the ENCAP, child occupant protection assessments using 18-month-old(P1.5) and 3-year-old(P3) test dummies in the rear seat have already been changed to new type of 18-month-old (Q1.5)and 3-year-old(Q3) test dummies. In addition, ENCAP are scheduled with the development and introduction of test dummies of 6-year-old (Q6) and 10.5-year-old children(Q10) starting 2016. In KNCAP, Q6 and Q10 child dummies will be introduced in 2017 as well. Automobile manufacturers need to develop safety performance for new child dummies closely. In this paper, we focused on Q6 and Q10 child dummies sitting in child restraint system. Offset frontal crash tests were conducted using two types of test dummies, Q6 and Q10 child dummies, positioned in the rear seat. Q6 and Q10 were used to compare dummy kinematics in rear seating positions between Q6 behind the driver's seat and Q10 behind the front passenger's seat. The full vehicle sled test results of both dummies were conducted with different restraint systems. It showed that several injury and image data was collected as the result of the full vehicle sled test. Based on the results of these investigations, this paper describes which factor is most important and combination is the best performance when evaluating rear seat occupant protection for Q6 and Q10 child dummies.

  • Due to climate change and its consequential spring temperature rise, flowering time of Robinia pseudoacacia has advanced and a simultaneous blooming phenomenon occurred in different regions in South Korea. These changes in flowering time became a major crisis in the domestic beekeeping industry and the demand for accurate prediction of flowering time for R. pseudoacacia is increasing. In this study, we developed and compared performance of four different models predicting flowering time of R. pseudoacacia for the entire country: a Single Model for the country (SM), Modified Single Model (MSM) using correction factors derived from SM, Group Model (GM) estimating parameters for each region, and Local Model (LM) estimating parameters for each site. To achieve this goal, the bloom date data observed at 26 points across the country for the past 12 years (2006-2017) and daily temperature data were used. As a result, bloom dates for the north central region, where spring temperature increase was more than two-fold higher than southern regions, have advanced and the differences compared with the southwest region decreased by 0.7098 days per year (p-value=0.0417). Model comparisons showed MSM and LM performed better than the other models, as shown by 24% and 15% lower RMSE than SM, respectively. Furthermore, validation with 16 additional sites for 4 years revealed co-krigging of LM showed better performance than expansion of MSM for the entire nation (RMSE: p-value=0.0118, Bias: p-value=0.0471). This study improved predictions of bloom dates for R. pseudoacacia and proposed methods for reliable expansion to the entire nation.

  • In this study, the simulation was constructed using CA(Cellular Automata) rule to analyze the effect of incidents, which was verified using real-time VDS data and data collected on the field. The study analyzed the effect of incidents on highways by the simulation. The result appears to be statistically available with 5% of significance level. In order to analyze the effect of incident, the study classified time period of incidents and types of incidents in relation with traffic volume. Also, the effect of each type of incidents was analyzed in terms of time difference in sectional travel and delay time. In conclusion, little effect of incidents on traffic flow is noticed with light traffic volume but it becomes serious as the traffic volume increases. In addition, the delay happens to appear without incidents as the traffic volume increases over 2000 veh/hour. Also, when incidents happened during 45 minutes, the delay was about 425-722 veh·hour.

  • New car assessment program (NCAP) originated from USNCAP in 1979 has been implemented in several countries or markets, for instance USA, Europe, Korea, Japan, China and Australia. NCAP has contributed greatly to reduce accidental tolls. But recently, NCAP performance has no distinction between cars because manufacturer have been continuously developed to improve NCAP performance. Therefore, NHTSA announced new USNCAP protocol becoming effective from MY2011. NHTSA had carried out many NCAP tests based on the new test protocol and announced these test results. In this paper, USNCAP test results were reviewed by statistical method. This review was focused on passenger cars and frontal crash test results in order to investigate effect of changes in new NCAP protocol. There are two key changes, one is sited female dummy in passenger position, the other is enlarged to 4 scoring body regions in each dummy. Results of this review were summarized as followings. Performance in Passenger (12.5%) is lower than Driver's (50%) for number of 5 star vehicle. Neck injury criterion is dominant to NCAP star rating for both dummies in the mean sense. For standard deviation, chest deflection is showed largest value in driver dummy but neck injury criterion is showed for passenger's. DKAB and PKAB were equipped 28.1% and 6.2%, respectively. Consequently, the countermeasure for new USNCAP frontal crash test is essential to control well dummy kinematics with some safety features including KAB to reduce neck injuries.

  • We propose an iterated interpolation approach for the estimation fo time series parameters in the presence of outliers. The proposed approach iterates the parameter estimation stage and the outlier detection stage until no further outliers are detected. For the detection of outliers, interpolation diagnostic is applied, where the atypical observations by the one-step-ahead predictor instead of downweighting is also proposed. The performance of the proposed estimation methods is compared with other robust estimation methods by simulation study. It is observed that the iterated interpolation approach performs reasonably well is general, especially for single AO case and large $\phi$ in absolute values.

  • The efficiency of maxillary canine retraction by means of sliding mechanics along an 0.016 continuous labial arch and an 0.009 inch in diameter with a lumen of 0.030 inch NiTi closed coil spring was compared with that using the same NiTi closed coil spring and Molar Anchoring Spring(MAS) which was designed by author. MAS was made of .017" X .025" TMA wire and was given 60 degree tip-back bend on the wire close to the molar tube. This study was designed to investigate molar and canine root control during retraction into an extraction site with continuous arch wire system. Two techniques were tested with a continuous arch model embedded in a photoelastic resin. A photoelastic model was employed to visualize the effects of forces applied to canine and molar by two retraction mechanics. With the aid of polarized light, stresses were viewed as colored fringes. The photoelastic overview of the upper right quadrant showed that stress concentrations were observed in its photoelastic model. The obtained results were as follows. 1. Higher concentration of compression can be seen clearly at the distal curvature of the canine and mesial curvature of the molar and premolar when NiTi closed coil spring was applied only, which means severe anchorage loss of the molar and uncontrolled tipping of the canine. 2. The least level compression was presented at the mesial root area of the molar and premolar, and mesial root area of the canine when NiTi closed coil spring and MAS were used simultaneously. Especially mesial alveolar crest region of the canine was shown moderate level of compression that means MAS can be used as a appliance for anchorage control and prevention of canine extrusion and uncontrolled tipping during canine retraction.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the stress distributions in the surrounding tissues of the teeth seated by indirect retainers in three different teeth of unilateral distal extension partial denture when the dislodging forces were applied on denture bases. Three dimensional photoelastic models were made. The teeth on which indirect retainers were seated were mandibular left lateral incisor (Model I), canine (Model II), and first premolar (Model III). The dislodging force with 860mg at $45^{\circ}$ angulation to occlusal plane was applied to each model. Three dimensional photoelastic stress analysis was done, and the records were diagramed and analysed. The results were as follows : The compressive stresses were shown the most on neck portions of buccal, mesial, and distal sides in all three models. Slight tensile stresses were shown on neck portions of lingual sides in all three models. The compressive stresses on buccal side were shown in strength in such order as model I, model II, and model III. The compressive stresses were shown on neck portion of mesial and distal sides of model I and mode II, with model I more than Model II. The compressive stresses were shown only on neck portion of mesial side on Model III. The general overall magnitude of compressive stresses were shown in strength in such order as Model I, Model II, and Model III.

  • The purpose of this paper is to examine determinants of export to the East Asia region, using panel unit root, panel cointegration framework, panel VECM (vector error correction model), panel FMOLS (fully modified OLS). Different panel unit root tests confirm that the data series are integrated processes with unit roots. When applying cointegration tests to long-run effect for aggregate panel data, a primary concern is to construct the estimators in a way that does not constrain the transitional dynamics to be similar among different countries of the panel. The regression equations are estimated by various panel cointegration estimators. The panel data causality results reveal that exchange rates has unidirectional effects on export and GDP, and there exists bidirectional causality between export and GDP. Also, the results from the panel FMOLS tests overwhelmingly reject the null hypothesis of zero coefficient. The panel cointegrating vectors show that the export has positive relationship with the GDP and ODI (overseas direct investment).
