  • The purpose of this study was to identify the impact of various income sources on income inequality of forestry households. Data from the Forestry Household Economy Survey from 2013-2016 were analyzed using the Gini coefficient decomposition method via income source. In particular, the income inequality analysis of forestry households was broken down into separate analyses based on group, i.e., the whole of forestry households and the five income quintile classes. The results of the analyses showed that income inequality of forestry households is primarily affected by forestry and nonforestry incomes and income quintile class. Moreover, income inequality of the highest income quintile class was largely affected by forestry income compared with other sources of income, whereas that of other income quintile classes was largely affected by nonforestry income. Therefore, in order to reduce income inequality in forestry households, it is necessary to increase the proportion of forestry income in the lower four quintile classes. Given that the income of the lowest quintile class is negative, it is necessary to devise ways to improve the proportion and quantity of forestry income. At the same time, as forestry income increases, a policy alternative is also required to improve inequality in forestry income.

  • The purpose of this analysis is to examine the effects of health expenditure on income inequality on household income after the financial crisis by using the household income survey form 1996 to 2016. The main results are as follows. First, after the financial crisis, the gross income inequality of households has been changing steadily, though there has been a slight change in each year. Second, high-income earners spend more on health care expenditure by income level. Therefore, unequal levels are maintained. Third, the Gini coefficient of income excluding health care expenditure was calculated. The results of the analysis are larger than the Gini coefficient of total income. Income inequality is intensified by the expenditure of health care expenditure of households. The inequality of household income due to health care expenditure has been increasing steadily since the financial crisis. Efforts such as strengthening the protection of health insurance have been continuously carried out for the purpose of reducing the burden of the national medical expenses. However, it does not contribute to resolving income inequality. In the future, it will be necessary to provide a more selective medical support system to reduce the medical expenditure of the low income class.

  • This study aims to analyze consumption inequality of Korean elderly households. The justification for analyzing consumption inequality during old age could be summarized as follows. First, due to the rapid growth of elderly population, the intra generational inequality of older people will bring greater consequences to the society in the coming years. Second, inequality is more actualized during old age when income stops playing a major role and the everyday lives are based mostly on consumption activities. For analysis, this study used the 2nd, 5th, 7th and 9th wave of 『Korea Labor and Income Panel Study』. The findings are as follows. First, total consumption inequality of elderly households is gradually decreasing after the economic crisis. Also, the gini coefficient of consumption items representing modern consumption culture, such as expenditures on eating out and car maintenance is decreasing. However, the inequality contribution rate of such items is continually rising, indicating that whereas the elderly households in general are being assimilated to the mainstream consumption culture, the disparity between classes is continually expanding. Second, gini coefficient and inequality contribution rate of the essentials such as food and housing has decreased indicating that basic livelihoods in general has risen. Third, the inequality of education expenditure is increasing after the year 2000 which implies that the problem of education inequality in general might have an effect on elderly households.

  • In this paper, we reconsider the Kolmogorov-Smirnoff distance as a split criterion for binary decision trees and suggest an algorithm to obtain the Kolmogorov-Smirnoff distance more efficiently when the input variable have more than three categories. The Kolmogorov-Smirnoff distance is shown to have the property of exclusive preference. Empirical results, comparing the Kolmogorov-Smirnoff distance to the Gini index, show that the Kolmogorov-Smirnoff distance grows more accurate trees in terms of misclassification rate.

  • One of the most important factor in the performance of Korean text-to-speech system is the prediction of accentual and intonational phrase boundary. The previous method of prediction shows only the 75-85% which is not proper in the practical and commercial system. Therefore, more accurate prediction must be needed in the practical system. In this study, we propose the simple and more accurate method of the prediction of AP, IP.

  • Decision tree methods is the one of data mining techniques. Classification trees are used to predict a class label. When a tree grows, the conventional splitting criteria use the weighted average of the left and the right child nodes for measuring the node impurity. In this paper, new splitting criteria for classification trees are proposed which improve the interpretablity of trees comparing to the conventional methods. The criteria search only for interesting subsets of the data, as opposed to modeling all of the data equally well. As a result, the tree is very unbalanced but extremely interpretable.

  • In this paper, the log-convexity of another class one-parameter mean is investigated. As applications, some new upper and lower bounds of logarithmic mean, new estimations for identric mean and new inequalities for power-exponential mean and exponential-geometric mean are first given.

  • In this paper, using the theory of majorization, we discuss the Schur m power convexity for L-conjugate means of n variables and the Schur convexity for weighted L-conjugate means of n variables. As applications, we get several inequalities of general mean satisfying Schur convexity, and a few comparative inequalities about n variables Gini mean are established.

  • The main objective of this study is to measure the concentration and deconcentration of the domestic freight forwarding system which illustrate the development trends in this industry. In this study, Herfindal-Hirschman index (HHI), shift-share analysis (SSA), and GINI coefficient combined with Lorenz curves were employed to investigate the domestic freight forwarders. The results are as follows: first, the HHI was used to assess the concentration of domestic freight forwarders in Vietnam. The downward trend from 0.117 in 2008 to 0.083 in 2018 indicate the deconcentration of domestic freight forwarders in Vietnam. Second, the SSA results indicated that the company Transimex showed the best performance with a shift effect of million VND 1,906,515 and a ABSGR value of million VND 2,158,232. Third, the GINI index go down from 0.468 to 0.393 in 2008-2018 as follow and the Lorenz curves covered a large part which make more demonstrate the deconcentration trend of freight forwarding in Vietnam. The results show that deconcentration is a trend in 2008-2018. The results of this study provides relevant data on freight forwarders which are not easily accessible to related stakeholders.

  • With the rapid development of China's economy, the aviation industry, as an important part of transportation services, has undoubtedly achieved rapid development. However, there is hardly any academic work that was based on the development of the top airlines in the Chinese airline industry. Hence, this study provides empirical research that takes into account the longitudinal development of the top 20 airlines in China from 2009 to 2018. The throughput volumes (cargo and passenger) of the airlines were analyzed by concentration indicators, namely the concentration ratio (CR), the Herfindahl- Hirschman index (HHI), the Gini coefficient, and the shift-share analysis (SSA). In this paper, the top 20 airlines have been analyzed in terms of the passenger and cargo throughput from 2009 to 2018. The calculation results of CR6, HHI and the Gini coefficient show that the airlines were extremely deconcentrated. In addition, by comparing the ABSGR of passenger and cargo throughput, it is shown that China's aviation industry is dominated by four airlines- Air China, China Eastern Airlines, China Southern Airlines and Hainan Airlines. In the future study, it is necessary to explore growth strategies to find niche markets for passenger and cargo transportation.
