Derivation of Optimal Design Flood by Gamma and Generalized Gamma Distribution Models(II) -On the Generalized Gamma Distribution Model- (Gamma 및 Generalized Gamma 분포 모형에 의한 적정 설계홍수량의 유도(II) -Generalized Gamma 분포모형을 중심으로-)

  • This study was conducted to derive optimal design floods by generalized gamma distribution model of the annual maximum series at eight watersheds along Geum, Yeongsan and Seomjin river systems. Design floods obtained by different methods for evaluation of parameters and for plotting positions in the generalized gamma distribution model were compared by the relative mean errors and graphical fit along with 95% confidence limits plotted on gamma probability paper. The results were analyzed and summarized as follows. 1. Basic statistics and parameters were calculated by the generalized gamma distribution model using different methods for parameters. 2. Design floods according to the return periods were obtained by different methods for evaluation of parameters and for plotting positions in the generalized gamma distribution model. 3. It was found that design floods derived by sundry averages method for parameters and Cunnane method for plotting position in the generalized gamma distribution are much closer to those of the observed data in comparison with those obtained by the other methods for parameters and for plotting positions from the viewpoint of relative mean errors. 4. Reliability of design floods derived by sundry averages method in the generalized gamma distribution was acknowledged within 95% confidence interval.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of Angelica gigas on jejunal survival, endogenous spleen colony formation and jejunal crypt cells of mice irradiated with Gamma-ray irradiation. The subject of this study includes 42 mice which were divided into each 7 groups. Angelica gigas experiment groups were Angelica gigas + Gamma-ray(10Gy), Angelica gigas + Gamma-ray(3Gy), Angelica gigas. Gamma-ray(1 Gy), Gamma-ray control (10Gy), Gamma-ray control(3Gy), Gamma-ray control(1Gy), Normal groups. In the present study to evaluate the effect of Angelica gigas on jejunal crypt survival, endogenous spleen colony formation, and apoptosis in jejunal crypt cells of mice Gamma-ray with each dose of Gamma-ray irradiation. The results of this study were as follows: In low-dose(1Gy) Gamma-ray radiation were treatment of Angelica gigas showed significantly increased(p<0.05) on the cell death apoptosis in crypt, intestine crypts survival of intestine after gamma-ray irradiation. High-dose(10Gy) Gamma-ray, treatment of Angelica gigas showed significantly increased(p<0.05) on the leukocyte. The above results suggest that Angelica gigas were immunostimulating effectively reduced Gamma-ray irradiation.

  • Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-gamma ($PPAR{\gamma}$) is expressed at very high levels in the gastrointestinal epithelium. Many of the functions of $PPAR{\gamma}$ in gastrointestinal epithelial cells have been elucidated in recent years, and a pattern is emerging which suggests that this receptor plays an important role in gastrointestinal physiology. There is also strong evidence that $PPAR{\gamma}$ is a colon cancer suppressor in pre-clinical rodent models of sporadic colon cancer, and there is considerable interest in exploitation of $PPAR{\gamma}$ agonists as prophylactic or chemopreventive agents in colon cancer. Studies in mice and in human colon cancer cell lines suggest several mechanisms that might account for the tumor suppressive effects of $PPAR{\gamma}$ agonists, although it is not in all cases clear whether these effects are altogether mediated by $PPAR{\gamma}$. Conversely, several reports suggest that $PPAR{\gamma}$ agonists may promote colon cancer under certain circumstances. This possibility warrants considerable attention since several million individuals with type II diabetes are currently taking $PPAR{\gamma}$ agonists. This review will focus on recent data related to four critical questions: what is the physiological function of $PPAR{\gamma}$ in gastrointestinal epithelial cells; how does $PPAR{\gamma}$ suppress colon carcinogenesis; is $PPAR{\gamma}$ a tumor promoter; and what is the future of $PPAR{\gamma}$ in colon cancer prevention?

  • 면역글로불린의 Fc 부분에 대한 수용기인 $Fc{\gamma}R$는 세균에 대한 인식, 결합과 포식작용과정에서 중요한 역할을 한다. 이 $Fc{\gamma}R$에서 $Fc{\gamma}R$IIa, $Fc{\gamma}R$IIIa, $Fc{\gamma}R$IIIb의 유전자 다형성이 치의학 분야에서 연구되고 있다. $Fc{\gamma}R$IIa에서는 두 번째 세포외 면역글로불린 유사 영역의 131번째 아미노산에서 아르기닌($Fc{\gamma}R$IIa-R131) 혹은 히스티딘($Fc{\gamma}R$IIa-H131)을 갖고 있으며, $Fc{\gamma}R$IIIa에서는 두번째 세포외 영역의 158번째 아미노산이 발린($Fc{\gamma}R$IIIa-158V) 혹은 페닐알라닌($Fc{\gamma}R$IIIa-158F)을 갖고 있다. $Fc{\gamma}R$IIIb에서는 첫 번째 세포외 면역글로불린 유사영역의 4개의 아미노산의 유전자 다형성으로 인해서 $Fc{\gamma}R$IIIb-NA1과 $Fc{\gamma}R$IIIb-NA2의 두가지 유전자 다형성을 보이고 있다. 이번 연구는 치주적으로 건강한 한국인에서 $Fc{\gamma}R$IIa, $Fc{\gamma}R$IIIa, $Fc{\gamma}R$IIIb에 대한 유전자형의 분포를 조사하고자 한 것으로 서울대학교 치과병원에 근무하는 치과의사, 치과위생사, 간호조무사 및 서울대학교 치과대학 4학년 학생 중 치주낭 깊이와 부착소실이 4mm 이하인 치주적으로 건강한 한국인 65명을 대상으로 하였다. $Fc{\gamma}R$IIa, $Fc{\gamma}R$IIIa, $Fc{\gamma}R$IIIb의 유전자 다형성은 분리한 DNA에 각 대립유전자에 특이성을 지닌 primer를 넣고 PCR(polymerase Chain Reaction)법을 이용하여 증폭시킨후 전기영동법을 이용하여 각 대립유전자의 존재를 확인함으로써 결정하였다. $Fc{\gamma}R$IIa의 유전자 다형성은 R/R131, R/H131, H/H131의 유전자형에 대하여 각각 7.7%, 38.5%, 53.8%의 분포를 보였으며, $Fc{\gamma}R$IIIa의 158V/V, 158V/F, 158F/F 유전자형에 대하여 각각 7.7%, 35.4%, 56.9%의 분포를 보였다. 또한 $Fc{\gamma}R$IIIb의 NA1/NA1, NA1/NA2, NA2/NA2 유전자형은 각각 33.9%, 53.8%, 12.3%의 분포를 보였다. 이를 바탕으로 각 대립유전자의 발생빈도 계산한 결과 $Fc{\gamma}R$IIa의 R131과 H131이 26.9% 73.1%로 나타났으며, $Fc{\gamma}R$IIIa의 158V, 158F의 유전자형이 25.4%, 74.6%로 나타났다. $Fc{\gamma}R$IIIb의 NA1, NA2 유전자형의 발생빈도는 60.8%, 29.2%로 나타났다. 이번 연구는 치주적으로 건강한 한국인에서의 $Fc{\gamma}R$IIa, $Fc{\gamma}R$IIIa, $Fc{\gamma}R$IIIb에 대한 유전자형의 분포를 조사한 것으로, 이후 치주질환자의 유전자형 분포와의 비교로 치주질환과 $Fc{\gamma}R$IIa, $Fc{\gamma}R$IIIa, $Fc{\gamma}R$IIIb의 유전자다형성과의 관련성에 관한 추가적인 연구가 필요할 것으로 여겨진다.

A Spectrophotometric Assay for ${\gamma}$-Glutamyl Transpeptidase Activity

  • A colorimetric assay for $\gamma$-glutamyl transpeptidase ($\gamma$-CTP; E.C 2.3.2.2) employing 2, 4, 6-trinitrobenzene sulfonate (TNBS) to detect the amount of disappeared acceptor via transpeptidation, has been developed. Under the experimental conditions using L-$\gamma$-glutamyl ethyl ester and L-phenylalanine as $\gamma$-glutamyl donor and acceptor, respectively, it was found that the decreased absorbance of yellow color at 420 nm was strictly related to the amount of L-$\gamma$-glutamyl-L-phenylalanine (L-$\gamma$-Glu-L-Phe) formed, which was determined by DEAE-cellu-lose column chromatography. Concentrations of the enzyme and $\gamma$-glutamyl products were able to be determinedin the nanogram and nanomoles per milliliter range, respectively, with high precision and reliability. This novel assay system may therefore be a useful means for understanding of catalytic function of the $\gamma$-CTP spectrophotometrically without any usage of sophisticated instruments.

Study on the therapeutic effects of interferon and gamma-globulin in experimental Pneumocustis curinii pneumonia (Interferon 및 gamma-globulin이 실험적 Pneumocystis carinii 폐염의 치료에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was performed to observe the therapeutic effects of interferon-gamma ($IFN-{\gamma}$) and gamma-globulin (${\gamma}-globulin$) in experimental Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia of immune suppressed mice. After 9 weeks, trimethoprim-sulfamethoxaBole(TMP-SMZ; 10~50 mg/mouse/day), mouse $IFN-{\gamma}(5{\times}10^4$ units/mouse/day) and mouse ${\gamma}-globulin$(20 mg/mouse/day) were administered to the mice for 3 weeks by the experimental group. The therapeutic efficacy was evaluated by body weights, histopatholo단ic and electron microscopic findings of the lungs, and number of p. carinii cysts by Gomori's methenamine silver stain. Body weights of the mice were significantly increased in the group of combination therapy of TMP-SMZ with $IFN-{\gamma}{\;}or{\;}{\gamma}-globulin$, and in the group of TMP- SMZ treatment(p<0.05), however, little effect was found in the group of T-globulin alone. Histopathologic 6ndings of p. carinii pneumonia were much improved in the group of combination therapy of TMP-SMZ with $IFN-{\gamma}$. Treatment with either TMP-SMZ or $IFN-{\gamma}$ significantly reduced the number of cysts in the p. carinii pneumonia, but {\gamma}-globulin alone was ineffective. In electron microscopic findings of p. carinii pneumonia, the number of trophozoites and cysts were reduced by treatment with either TMP-SMZ or $IFN-{\gamma}$, and most of the cysts were empty or containing one or two intracystic bodies. The present results suggested, that combination therapy of TMP-SMZ with $IFN-{\gamma}$ had synergistic effects in treatment of P carinii pneumonia in experi- mental mice.

  • In this paper, we introduce the concept of fuzzy ${\gamma}$-quasi open sets which are generalizations of fuzzy ${\gamma}$-open sets, and obtain some basic properties of such fuzzy sets. Also we introduce and study the concepts of fuzzy ${\gamma}$-quasi continuous mapping and fuzzy ${\gamma}$-quasi open(closed) mapping.
