  • A microwave free electron laser which consists of Marx generator, vacuum diode, bifilar helical wiggler, and guide solenoid was designed and constructed. The analysis of the magnetic field distributions of the bifilar helical wiggler and computer simulation of electron trajectories with the perpendicular effect of space charges led to the conclusion that the magnetic field distributions are suitable for the electron beam injection. Output frequency in a single $TE_{11}$

  • The solution of the normal equation arising in a general linear model by the least square methods is not unique in general. Conventionally, SAS IML and G-inverse matrices are considered for such problems. In this paper, we provide a systematic solution procedures for SAS IML.

  • The System identification is the process of developing or improving a mathematical model of a physical system using experimental data of the input, output and noise relationship. The field of system identification has been an important discipline within the automatic control area. The reason is the requirement that mathematical models having a specified accuracy must be used to apply modem control methods. In this paper, it is confirmed that we can obtain transfer function of flexible beam that is expressed in the forms of identified state-space system matrix A, B, C, D and identified observer gain G using Eigensystem Realization Algorithm including singular value decomposition. And these matrices can be applied to the automatic control. In addition to, it is also confirmed that transfer function can express a system using identified observer gain G, in spite of a noisy data or a periodic disturbance.

  • This research describes how to predict a model of the tensile strain related to the fatigue cracking performance of several asphalt concrete structures through design of experiments(e.g., Response Surface Methodology) and harmony search(HS) algorithm. The axisymmetric analysis program of finite element method, which is the KICTPAVE, was used to determine the strain level at the interface layer between asphalt layer and lean concrete layer. Once the training database set of various strain levels was constructed under the several condition of layer stiffnesses and thicknesses in the asphalt concrete structures, the data set was trained through the HS algorithm in order to determine the regression coefficients defined based on a response surface methodology. Furthermore, the testing set, which was not used for the training procedure of HS algorithm, was also constructed in order to evaluate whether the regression coefficients of a prediction model can be appropriately applied for other cases in asphalt concrete structures.

  • The high-pressure phase behavior of a polycaprolactone (Mw=56,145 g/mol, polydispersity 1.2), dichloromethane, and carbon dioxide ternary system was measured using a variable-volume view cell. The experimental temperatures and pressures ranged from 313.15 K to 353.15 K and up to 300 bar as functions of the $CO_2$/dichloromethane mass ratio and temperature, at poly(D-lactic acid) weight fractions of 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0%. The correlation results were obtained from the hybrid equation of state (Peng-Robinson equation of state + SAFT equation of state) for the $CO_2$-polymer system using the van der Waals one-fluid mixing rule. The three binary interaction parameters were optimized by the simplex method algorithm.

  • This paper presents a numerical investigation of the deflagration-to-detonation transition (DDT) of flame acceleration by a shock wave filled with an ethylene/air mixture as the combustible gas, considering geometrical changes by using obstacles and bent tubes. The model used consists of the reactive compressible Navier-Stokes equations and the ghost fluid method (GFM) for complex boundary treatment. Simulations with a variety of bent tubes with obstacles show the generation of hot spots through flame and strong shock-wave interactions, and restrained or accelerated flame propagation due to geometrical effects. In addition, the simulation results show that the DDT occurs with a nearly constant chemical heat-release rate of 20 MJ/($g{\bullet}s$) in our numerical setup. Furthermore, the DDT triggering time can be delayed by the absence of unreacted material together with insufficient pressures and temperatures induced by different flame shapes, although hot spots are formed in the same positions.

  • Calculation of elastic wave fields has important applications in a variety of engineering fields including NDE (Non-destructive evaluation). Scattering problems have been investigated by numerous authors with different solution schemes. For simple geometries of the scatterers (e.g., cylinders or spheres), the analysis of steady-state elastic wave scattering has been carried out using analytical techniques. For arbitrary geometries and multiple inclusions, numerical methods have been developed. Special finite element methods, e.g., the infinite element method and a hybrid method called the Global-Local finite element method have also been developed for this purpose. Recently, the boundary integral equation method has been used successfully to solve scattering problems. In this paper, a volume integral equation method (VIEM) is proposed as a new numerical solution scheme for the solution of general elasto-dynamic problems in unbounded solids containing multiple inclusions and voids or cracks. A boundary integral equation method (BIEM) is also presented for elastic wave scattering problems. The relative advantage of the volume and boundary integral equation methods for solving scattering problems is discussed.

  • The prelaunch thermal transients in the cryogenic oxidizer tank of liquid propulsion rocket subjected to uniform heat flux from outside are numerically analyzed through thermodynamic equations and heat and mass transfer relations. The prelaunch stage is assumed to be composed of five idealized sub-stages including pressurization process by helium gas injection. The Peng-Robinson equation of state is utilized in the lumped analysis of ullage gas. The liquid region is divided into a number of horizontal layers of uniform properties to account for the thermal stratification. The computational result for the typical case shows that the temperature rise of liquid oxidizer is less than 1K and the adsorbed helium into the liquid is approximately 10g.

  • In this paper, the helicopter aerodynamics is simulated in hovering and forward flight. Also, an overlapped grid technique is applied in this simulation to consider the blade motion and moving effects. The Caradonna & Tung's rotor blade was selected to analyze the unsteady aerodynamics in hovering and non-lift forward flight. Also, the AH-1G rotor blade was selected in forward flight. In forward flight case, the numerical trim was applied to determine the cyclic pitching angles using Newton-Raphson method, and the numerical results were in good agreement with experimental data, especially, the BVI effects were well simulated in advancing side in comparison other numerical results. The governing equation is a three dimensional unsteady Euler equation, and the Riemann invariants condition is used for inflow and outflow at the boundary.

  • The purpose of the current study was to investigate the causal relationship between university students' aggression and college life adjustment and to test whether smartphone addiction had a mediating effect between the two variables. A sample of 368 students from 5 universities in G Metropolitan City were included in the analysis and structural equation modeling (SEM) was employed to test the hypotheses. The major results were as follows. First, university students' aggression had a significant positive effect on smartphone addiction. Second, the effect of aggression on college life adjustment was not significant. Third, university students' smartphone addiction had a significant negative effect on college life adjustment. Fourth, university students' aggression had a significant effect on college life adjustment through smartphone addiction. Finally, theoretical and practical implications were discussed in terms of enhancing college life adjustment.
