  • In this paper we propose a fuzzy-neural network(FNN) which includes both advantages of the fuzzy logic and the neural network. The basic idea of the FNN is to realize the fuzzy rule-base and the process of reasoning by neural network and to make the corresponding parameters be expressed by the connection weights of neural network. After constructing the FNN, a novel controller consisting of a conventional P-controller and a FNN is explained. In this control scheme, the rule-base of a FNN are automatically generated by error back-propagation algorithm. Also the parallel connection of the P-controller and the FNN can guarantee the stability of a plant at initial stage before the rules are completely created. Finally the effectiveness of the proposed strategy will be verified by computer simulations using a 2 degree of freedom robot manipulator.

  • Studies on the ship's automatic navigation & berthing control have been continued by way of solving the ship's mathematical model but the results of such studies have not reached to our satisfactory level due to its non-linear characteristics ar low speed. In this paper the authors propose a new berthing control system which can evaluate as closely as captain's decision-making by using the FNN(Fuzzy Neural Network) controller which can simulate captain's decision-making by using the FNN(Fuzzy neural Network) controller which can simulate captain's knowledge. This berthing controller consists of the navigation subsystem FNN controller and the berthing subsystem FNN controller. The learning data are drawn from Ship Handling Simulator (NavSim NMS90 MK III) and represent the ship motion characteristics internally According to learning procedure both FNN controllers can tune membership functions and identify fuzzy control rules automatically The verified results show the FNN controllers effective to incorporate captain's knowledge and experience of berthing.

  • This paper is proposed adaptive hybrid artificial intelligent(HAI) controller for high performance of induction motor drive. The design of this algorithm based on fuzzy-neural network(FNN) controller that is implemented using fuzzy control and neural network. This controller uses fuzzy rule as training patterns of a neural network. Also, this controller uses the back-propagation method to adjust the weights between the neurons of neural network in order to minimize the error between the command output and actual output. A model reference adaptive scheme is proposed in which the adaptation mechanism is executed by fuzzy logic based on the error and change of error measured between the motor speed and output of a reference model. The control performance of the adaptive FNN controller is evaluated by analysis for various operating conditions. The results of experiment prove that the proposed control system has strong high performance and robustness to parameter variation, and steady-state accuracy and transient response.

  • In this paper, a general neural-network-based connectionist model, called Fuzzy Neural Network(FNN), is proposed for the realization of a fuzzy logic control system. The proposed FNN is a feedforward multi-layered network which integrates the basic elements and functions of a traditional fuzzy logic controller into a connectionist structure which has distributed learning abilities. Such FNN can be constructed from training examples by learning rule, and the connectionist structure can be trained to develop fuzzy logic rules and find optimal input/output membership functions. Computer simulation examples will be presented to illustrate the performance and applicability of the proposed FNN, and their associated learning algorithms.

  • In this paper, Fuzzy Self-organizing Neural Networks(FSONN) based on Fuzzy Neural Networks(FNN) is proposed to overcome some problems, such as the conflict between ovefitting and good generation, and low reliability. The proposed FSONN consists of FNN and SONN. Here, FNN is used as the premise part of FSONN and SONN is the consequnt part of FSONN. The FUN plays the preceding role of FSONN. For the fuzzy reasoning and learning method in FNN, Simplified fuzzy reasoning and backpropagation learning rule are utilized. The number of layers and the number of nodes in each layers of SONN that is based on the GMDH method are not predetermined, unlike in the case of the popular multi layer perceptron structure and can be generated. Also the partial descriptions of nodes can use various forms such as linear, modified quadratic, cubic, high-order polynomial and so on. In this paper, the optimal design procedure of the proposed FSONN is shown in each step and performance index related to approximation and generalization capabilities of model is evaluated and also discussed.

  • Interior permanent magnet synchronous motor(IPMSM) adjustable speed drives offer significant advantages over induction motor drives in a wide variety of industrial applications such as high power density, high efficiency, improved dynamic performance and reliability. Since the fuzzy neural network(FNN) is recognized general approximate method to control non-linearities and uncertainties, the development of FNN control systems have also grown rapidly. The FNN controller is compounded of fuzzy and neural network. It has an advantage that is the robustness of fuzzy control and the ability to adapt of neural network. However, the FNN has static problem due to their feed-forward network structure. This paper proposes high performance speed control of IPMSM drive using the recurrent FNN(RFNN) which improved conventional FNN controller. The RFNN has excellent dynamic response characteristics because of it has internally feed-back structure. Also, this paper proposes speed estimation of IPMSM drive using ANN. The proposed method is analyzed and compared to conventional FNN controller in various operating condition such as parameter variation, steady and transient states etc.

  • In this paper, we propose Fuzzy Polynomial Neural Networks(FPNN) based on Polynomial Neural Networks(PNN) and Fuzzy Neural Networks(FNN) for model identification of complex and nonlinear systems. The proposed FPNN is generated from the mutually combined structure of both FNN and PNN. The one and the other are considered as the premise part and consequence part of FPNN structure respectively. As the consequence part of FPNN, PNN is based on Group Method of Data Handling(GMDH) method and its structure is similar to Neural Networks. But the structure of PNN is not fixed like in conventional Neural Networks and self-organizing networks that can be generated. FPNN is available effectively for multi-input variables and high-order polynomial according to the combination of FNN with PNN. Accordingly it is possible to consider the nonlinearity characteristics of process and to get better output performance with superb predictive ability. As the premise part of FPNN, FNN uses both the simplified fuzzy inference as fuzzy inference method and error back-propagation algorithm as learning rule. The parameters such as parameters of membership functions, learning rates and momentum coefficients are adjusted using genetic algorithms. And we use two kinds of FNN structure according to the division method of fuzzy space of input variables. One is basic FNN structure and uses fuzzy input space divided by each separated input variable, the other is modified FNN structure and uses fuzzy input space divided by mutually combined input variables. In order to evaluate the performance of proposed models, we use the nonlinear function and traffic route choice process. The results show that the proposed FPNN can produce the model with higher accuracy and more robustness than any other method presented previously. And also performance index related to the approximation and prediction capabilities of model is evaluated and discussed.

  • The frequency of reactor coolant leakage is expected to increase over the lifetime of a nuclear power plant owing to degradation mechanisms, such as flow-acceleration corrosion and stress corrosion cracking. When loss of coolant accidents (LOCAs) occur, several parameters change rapidly depending on the size and location of the cracks. In this study, leak flow during LOCAs is predicted using a deep fuzzy neural network (DFNN) model. The DFNN model is based on fuzzy neural network (FNN) modules and has a structure where the FNN modules are sequentially connected. Because the DFNN model is based on the FNN modules, the performance factors are the number of FNN modules and the parameters of the FNN module. These parameters are determined by a least-squares method combined with a genetic algorithm; the number of FNN modules is determined automatically by cross checking a fitness function using the verification dataset output to prevent an overfitting problem. To acquire the data of LOCAs, an optimized power reactor-1000 was simulated using a modular accident analysis program code. The predicted results of the DFNN model are found to be superior to those predicted in previous works. The leak flow prediction results obtained in this study will be useful to check the core integrity in nuclear power plant during LOCAs. This information is also expected to reduce the workload of the operators.
