  • A fast iterative solving method of fuzzy relational equation is proposed. It is derived by eliminating a redundant comparison process in the conventional iterative solving method (Pedrycz, 1983). The proposed method is applied to image reconstruction, and confirmed that the computation time is decreased to 1 / 40 with the compression rate of 0.0625. Furthermore, in order to make any initial solution converge on a reconstructed image with a good quality, a new cost function is proposed. Under the condition that the compression rate is 0.0625, it is confirmed that the root mean square error of the proposed method decreases to 27.34% and 86.27% compared with those of the conventional iterative method and a non iterative image reconstruction method, respectively.

  • A phase lock loop (PLL) circuit is a wellknown electronic circuit in communication engineering and other areas. In this paper, we present application of the PLL and fuzzy logic for DC motor control which are mixed well to be more effective for motor control. With this scheme, the control system can reach the set point rapidly, especially, it can eliminate noises. In addition, the PLL makes the system to have more stability; whereas, fuzzy logic controls helping PLL to be able to lock rapidly for a good response. The experiment result shows that the proposed control system works more efficacious. By performance comparison between the pure PLL control and the hybrid architecture of PLL with the fuzzy control, the result reveals the hybrid control ...

  • Large scale plants are equipped with a number of the rotating machineries which ocuupy important positions in the plant system. Therefore, the most important one is a vibraiton diagnostic thchnology which can detect quickly any abnormal symptom of operating malfunction and guve operational and inspection guides adequately. A new diagnosis method is developed in this paper, in which the fuzzy set theory is introduced to diagnose the defects of ratating machinery. The selection of memgership function and the fuzzy operation model are discussed in datail here. The systme is sucessfully used for various defacts diagnosis of rotating machinery. The result indicate that realixtic application can be builtusing this approach.

  • The paper presents a method of constructing simple fuzzy control rules for the determination of stabilizing signals of automatic voltage regulator and governor, which are controllers of electric power systems. Fuzzy control rules are simplified by considering a coordinate transformation with the rotation angle .theta. on the phase plane, and by expanding the range of membership functions. Also, two rotation angles .theta. $_{1}$ and .theta. $_{2}$ are selected for the linearizable region and the nonlinear one of the system, respectively. Here, .theta. $_{1}$ is chosen by the pole assignment method, and .theta. $_{2}$ by a performance index. Fuzzy inference is applied to the connection of two rotation angles .theta. $_{1}$ and .theta. $_{1}$ by regarding the distance from the desired equilibrium point as a variable of condition parts. The control effect is demonstrated by an application of the proposed method to one-machine infinite-bus power system.

  • An autonomous navigation algorithm for marine vehicles is proposed in this paper using fuzzy logic under COLREG guidelines. The VFF (Virtual Force Field) method, which is widely used in the field of mobile robotics, is modified for application to the autonomous navigation of marine vehicles. This Modified Virtual Force Field (MVFF) method can be used in either track-keeping or collision avoidance modes. Moreover, the operator can select a track-keeping pattern mode in the proposed algorithm. The collision avoidance algorithm has the ability to handle static and/or moving obstacles. The fuzzy expert rules are designed deliberately under COLREG guidelines. An extensive simulation study is used to verify the proposed method.

  • This paper presents a new self organizing fuzzy linguistic control (SOFLC) strategy for application to an arc welding process control. The proposed SOFLC is based on on-line modification of the control rules according to the extent of deviation of the one step ahead predictive output of the process from the desired output. The Predictive output of the process is estimated by a fuzzy predictor which is updated from the input and output data of the process. The rule base of the fuzzy subsets describing the control rules is modified by the improving mechanism based on the hill climbing approach. Simulation results show that this proposed SOFLC improves the response of the process in presence of the variation of the process dynamic characteristics.

  • This paper presents a design of self_tuning fuzzy logic controller using Genetic Algorithms for power system stabilization. FPSS(Fuzzy Logic Power System Stabilized is applied to the KERI(Korea Electric Research Int.) power system simulator so that its efficiency can be investigated in real time control. Genetic Algorithms are used to determine fuzzy membership functions. Experiment results show the better performances with FPSS in comparison to no PSS.

  • Biometric authentication for account-based mobile payment continues to gain attention because of improvements on sensors that can collect biometric information. We propose an enhanced method for mobile payment security based on biometric authentication. In this mobile payment system, the communication between the user and the relying party is based on public key infrastructure. This method secures both the key and the biometric template in the user side using fuzzy vault biometric cryptosystems, which is based on non-random chaff point generator. In this paper, we consider an important process for the common fuzzy vault system, that is, the feature extraction method. We evaluate various feature extraction methods to enhance the accurate performance of the system.

  • Project Management Consultant (PMC) plays a vital role in the overall performance of any project. Selecting right PMC for right project is the most crucial challenge for any construction owner. Thus, PMC selection is one of the main decisions made by owners at the early phase of construction project. It is not easy for the project owner to select a competent PMC due to the fuzziness, imprecision, vagueness, incomplete and qualitative criteria of the decision. This paper presents a model for selecting PMC contractor using the Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy Process (FAHP). And a fuzzy number based framework is proposed to be a viable method for PMC contractor selection. A case study to illustrate the application of the model is also presented in this paper.
