  • Today, one of the major pressures that libraries have been facing is the rapid growth of publications. Due to the rapid growth of publications, libraries have been faced the shortage of stack as well as quality deterioration of library collections. Naturally, these disa n.0, ppointed the users and made the present library activities weak and inadequate. One of the desirable actions in remedying these problems is to weed library collections properly and regularly. Weeding methods used in libraries are derived from the judgement by subject specialists, from the examining the imprint date and the past use patterns of a volume. Among these methods, the past use patterns are highly predictive of the future use, and can be used to create meaningful weeding criteria. Since the libraries in Korea have emphasized on numbers of library collection in the past, the libraries have neglected weeding library collections. Now, we must turn our concern toward the weeding library collections, and the attitude of the library services to the users must change from passive to active.

  • The libraries that existed during the latter period of the Yi Dynasty may be categorized into four types: the royal library, the school library, the clan community library, and the private library. Of these, the clan community library has yet received very little attention in the study of Korean libraries. In this study the author discusses the purposes, functions, and collections of the clan community library to clarify what that particular type of old libraries in Korea was. The clan community library functioned within individual clan communities to give young people Korean traditional education protecting them from possible influences of. Japanese version of Western scholarship which had threatened the traditional value systems of the society. The author believes that the clan community library was a unique community institution created by Korean people, and the Korean public library movement should trace its origin back to the activities of the libraries. Unfortunately the growing suppression and control of the Japanse colonial regime upon the traditional schools made the purposes and development of the clan community library movement a tragic experience before its flowering. The clan community library was a Korean native public library which came out in response to a historical situation and community need. It may deserve more attention in future study of the national library movement of Korea.

For the control of this cooperation, the orgnization to propel the digitalization should be established. And it is necessary to enact the standards for the digital library. 3. The connection between MARC formatted bibliographic database and full-text should be studied. 4. All the types of information about texts, pictures, sounds and if films should be also digitalized. 5. To satisfy the needs of many users, we have to establish the various users's interface which is fitted for several kinds of users. 6. When a digital library was constructed, the copyright and resources sharing must be guranteed depending on the cost of database's usage. 7. Because the digitalization of library will be related to the various kinds of libraries, the interface for resources sharing will be constantly concerned. 8. • Due to the competitive nature of journal publishing, editorial leadership has become an increasingly important issue on many editorial teams. This study aimed to compare the major and non-Western international journals in library and information science and reveal the differences between them. To conduct this study, journals indexed by Scopus and Web of Science were analyzed in terms of gender, professional position and rank, institutions, and the iSchool status of the editorial leaders' institutions. The most notable results were the following: a) As a whole, both types of journals lacked true internationalization. Editorial leaders of major journals tended to be from Western countries, whereas editorial leaders of non-Western journals tended to be from non-Western countries; b) Most non-Western journals tended to appoint editorial leaders from the same country as the publisher's country; and c) Almost all editorial leaders of non-Western journals were from various non-Western countries and tended to have lower h-index scores, and their institutions were not part of the iSchool. Future research should assess editorial leadership, compare the results of this study to other disciplines, and find effective ways to collect data on editorial leaders while minimizing ethical concerns in order to meet future research needs.
