Fusion of Hierarchical Behavior-based Actions in Mobile Robot Using Fuzzy Logic

  • This paper presents mobile robot control architecture of hierarchical behaviors, inspired by biological life. The system is reactive, highly parallel, and does not rely on representation of the environment. The behaviors of the system are designed hierarchically from the bottom-up with priority given to primitive behaviors to ensure the survivability of the robot and provide robustness to failures in higher-level behaviors. Fuzzy logic is used to perform command fusion on each behavior's output. Simulations of the proposed methodology are shown and discussed. The simulation results indicate that complex tasks can be performed by a combination of a few simple behaviors and a set of fuzzy inference rules.

  • Stainless steels is widely used in various industries due to its high strength and excellent corrosion resistance. However, in the case of fusion welding for stainless steel, chromium deficiency layer produced by chromium carbide precipitation during welding process causes corrosion-resistance to be lower and formation of intergranular corrosion. It requires a inevitable complex procedure such as pre-heating and post-heating process etc. to prevent such weld defects. From this viewpoint, the new welding process such as a solid state welding method is suited for welding of stainless steels due to its advantages over the fusion welding. Therefore this paper intends to investigate the research trend on friction stir welding, one of solid state welding processes for stainless steels.

  • 지능융합 클러스터는 전기전자정보통신, 컴퓨터공학부, 건축공학부, 디자인공학과로 구성된 학제간 융합 프로그램이다. 지능융합 클러스터의 효과적인 운영방안을 도출하기 위하여 클러스터 소속의 학생과 교수를 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하고, 이 설문을 바탕으로 효과적인 운영안을 도출하였다. 운영안은 교과과정 운영 개선과 연구 활성화를 위한 두 가지 측면으로 제시되었다.

Robust Hierarchical Data Fusion Scheme for Large-Scale Sensor Network

  • The advanced driver assistant system (ADAS) requires the collection of a large amount of information including road conditions, environment, vehicle status, condition of the driver, and other useful data. In this regard, large-scale sensor networks can be an appropriate solution since they have been designed for this purpose. Recent advances in sensor network technology have enabled the management and monitoring of large-scale tasks such as the monitoring of road surface temperature on a highway. In this paper, we consider the estimation and fusion problems of the large-scale sensor networks used in the ADAS. Hierarchical fusion architecture is proposed for an arbitrary topology of the large-scale sensor network. A robust cluster estimator is proposed to achieve robustness of the network against outliers or failure of sensors. Lastly, a robust hierarchical data fusion scheme is proposed for the communication channel between the clusters and fusion center, considering the non-Gaussian channel noise, which is typical in communication systems.

Command Fusion for Navigation of Mobile Robots in Dynamic Environments with Objects

  • In this paper, we propose a fuzzy inference model for a navigation algorithm for a mobile robot that intelligently searches goal location in unknown dynamic environments. Our model uses sensor fusion based on situational commands using an ultrasonic sensor. Instead of using the "physical sensor fusion" method, which generates the trajectory of a robot based upon the environment model and sensory data, a "command fusion" method is used to govern the robot motions. The navigation strategy is based on a combination of fuzzy rules tuned for both goal-approach and obstacle-avoidance based on a hierarchical behavior-based control architecture. To identify the environments, a command fusion technique is introduced where the sensory data of the ultrasonic sensors and a vision sensor are fused into the identification process. The result of experiment has shown that highlights interesting aspects of the goal seeking, obstacle avoiding, decision making process that arise from navigation interaction.

Image Fusion and Evaluation by using Mapping Satellite-1 Data

  • China's Mapping Satellite-1, developed by the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC), was launched in three years ago. The data from Mapping Satellite-1 are able to use for efficient surveying and geometric mapping application field. In this paper, we fuse the panchromatic and multispectral images of Changchun area, which are obtained from the Mapping Satellite-1, the one that is the Chinese first transmission-type three-dimensional mapping satellite. The four traditional image fusion methods, which are HPF, Mod.IHS, Panshar and wavelet transform, were used to approach for effectively fusing Mapping Satellite-1 remote sensing data. Subsequently we assess the results with some commonly used methods, which are known a subjective qualitative evaluation and quantitative statistical analysis approach. Consequently, we found that the wavelet transform remote sensing image fusion is the optimal in the degree of distortion, the ability of performance of details and image information availability among four methods. To further understand the optimal methods to fuse Mapping Satellite-1 images, an additional study is necessary.

Tracking of ARPA Radar Signals Based on UK-PDAF and Fusion with AIS Data

  • To maintain the existing systems of ships and introduce autonomous operation technology, it is necessary to improve situational awareness through the sensor fusion of the automatic identification system (AIS) and automatic radar plotting aid (ARPA), which are installed sensors. This study proposes an algorithm for determining whether AIS and ARPA signals are sent to the same ship in real time. To minimize the number of errors caused by the time series and abnormal phenomena of heterogeneous signals, a tracking method based on the combination of the unscented Kalman filter and probabilistic data association filter is performed on ARPA radar signals, and a position prediction method is applied to AIS signals. Especially, the proposed algorithm determines whether the signal is for the same vessel by comparing motion-related components among data of heterogeneous signals to which the corresponding method is applied. Finally, a measurement test is conducted on a training ship. In this process, the proposed algorithm is validated using the AIS and ARPA signal data received by the voyage data recorder for the same ship. In addition, the proposed algorithm is verified by comparing the test results with those obtained from raw data. Therefore, it is recommended to use a sensor fusion algorithm that considers the characteristics of sensors to improve the situational awareness accuracy of existing ship systems.

항공전자 멀티센서 정보 융합 구조 연구 (A Study on a Multi-sensor Information Fusion Architecture for Avionics)

  • 다른 종류의 센서에서 생산되는 데이터를 하나의 정보로 종합하는 공정으로 멀티 센서 데이터 융합이 연구되고 있으며 다양한 플랫폼에서 활용되고 있다. 항공기도 여러 종류의 센서들을 장착하고 있으며 항공전자 체계에서 이를 통합하여 관리하고 있다. 항공기 센서의 성능이 높아지면서 항공전자 관점에서 센서 정보의 통합이 점차 증가하고 있다. 센서에서 생산된 데이터를 하나의 융합된 정보로 항공기 조종사에게 전시 장비로 시현하기 위한 융합을 담당하는 소프트웨어 관점에서 정보 융합을 다루는 연구는 활성화 되지 않고 있다. 항공기에서 정보 융합의 목적은 올바른 전투상황을 조종사에게 제공하여 임무를 수행하는 데에 필요한 결정을 돕고 이를 위한 조종 업무량을 최소화하는 것이다. 본 논문에서는 다양한 센서들이 운용되는 항공전자 시스템의 멀티센서데이터 융합을 위한 소프트웨어 관점에서 센서들이 생산하는 데이터가 사용자에게 종합된 정보 형태로 제공되기 위한 구조를 보인다.

Evaluation of Geo-based Image Fusion on Mobile Cloud Environment using Histogram Similarity Analysis

  • Mobility and cloud platform have become the dominant paradigm to develop web services dealing with huge and diverse digital contents for scientific solution or engineering application. These two trends are technically combined into mobile cloud computing environment taking beneficial points from each. The intention of this study is to design and implement a mobile cloud application for remotely sensed image fusion for the further practical geo-based mobile services. In this implementation, the system architecture consists of two parts: mobile web client and cloud application server. Mobile web client is for user interface regarding image fusion application processing and image visualization and for mobile web service of data listing and browsing. Cloud application server works on OpenStack, open source cloud platform. In this part, three server instances are generated as web server instance, tiling server instance, and fusion server instance. With metadata browsing of the processing data, image fusion by Bayesian approach is performed using functions within Orfeo Toolbox (OTB), open source remote sensing library. In addition, similarity of fused images with respect to input image set is estimated by histogram distance metrics. This result can be used as the reference criterion for user parameter choice on Bayesian image fusion. It is thought that the implementation strategy for mobile cloud application based on full open sources provides good points for a mobile service supporting specific remote sensing functions, besides image fusion schemes, by user demands to expand remote sensing application fields.

위성영상 시공간 융합기법의 계절별 NDVI 예측에서의 응용 (Application of Satellite Data Spatiotemporal Fusion in Predicting Seasonal NDVI)

  • 시간해상도와 공간해상도가 높은 영상 자료는 효과적인 식생의 모니터링을 위해서 필수적이다. 하지만 단일 센서를 통한 영상은 공간해상도와 시간해상도가 높은 자료를 동시에 제공할 수 없는 한계점이 있다. 최근에는 위성영상의 공간적 해상도를 높이고 시간해상도를 보완하기 위해서 시공간 융합연구가 진행되고 있다. 그 중에서도 FSDAF(Flexible spatiotemporal data fusion) 방법론은 위성영상의 각 밴드를 융합하는 방법으로 적절한 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구에서는 FSDAF 융합기법을 활용하여 MODIS NDVI와 Landsat 영상으로 계산한 NDVI를 융합 후 검증을 실시하였으며 식생 계절 모니터링에서의 활용가능성을 제시하였다. 그 결과, 1월부터 12월까지 융합을 통해 NDVI 예측한 영상은 활엽수, 침엽수, 농지의 계절적인 특징을 잘 반영하고 있었다. 융합된 결과의 검증을 위하여 8월과 10월의 예측한 NDVI와 실제 값(Landsat NDVI) 간의 RMSE 값을 계산한 결과 각각 0.049와 0.085, 상관계수는 0.765, 0.642로 비교적 일치한 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구에서 활용된 FSDAF 시공간 융합 기법은 픽셀기반의 융합기법으로 다양한 공간스케일의 영상과도 융합 가능할 것이며 다양한 식생 관련 연구에 활용될 것으로 기대된다.
