furniture reflects historical, cultural, spatial background of human life style. This means that we cannot think of a furniture apart from the living environment. This study is focused on the process of furniture design in residential interiors. Furniture design process devided into the theoretical research the formal design process. Basically theoretical background contains human activities in place, antropometric data, requisite furniture type according to activities and some guidelines for design. And the formal design process is consisted of visual main concept, series of sketches and the development of alternatives of design. Thus, the theoretical background need to be applied to the steps of sketches, and for the harmonious interiors systematically.

The purpose of this study is to analyse and derive the color characteristics of childhood children's learning spaces and furniture for improving the color design of those and to present the direction of design and to build up the DB. The study covers products from domestic and overseas infant furniture manufacturers and 11 preschool learning rooms. The study method uses the collected furniture and spatial images to derive a palette of colors and compare color characteristics. The analysis results show that, the domestic infant furniture tend to use a variety of colors with pale tone or use consistent hard wood furniture according to the requirements of adult taste and marketability. Also, it attempts to create a very negative color scheme, but it looks like disorganized, and there is not much color design integrated with the architecture. Thus, color designs ensure that the ordering elements of the color scheme are clearly recognized by applying preferred color tones of childhood, like vivid and bright tone with high chroma and middle or hight Brightness value. Lastly, it should establish guidelines for specific palettes and color scheme, which can be utilized in the design of childhood children's learning spaces and furniture.

The joinery technique, as one of manufacturing techniques for the wooden furniture, influences the production process, the economic efficiency, and the diversification of design. Especially, the usage of machine tools can determine how much the students can enhance their design expression capabilities during the practice class in furniture design courses of domestic universities, in accordance with whether to utilize the machine tools or not, and how much and frequent to use the machine tools. The study proved that the joinery techniques, based on the high-tech machine, has more efficiencies in the various aspects, including the easiness to manufacture the products, and the diversity of design than the joinery technique, based on the handcraft-only. As the ground of this, this study estimated the time to produce the wooden furniture by machine tools and by handcraft-only, each. Also, this study show the comparison of the features of three different joinery techniques. On the basis of this comparison, this study made the conclusion that the machine-based joinery technique, which is used in the practice class, is the best method to bring the best results in manufacturing the wooden furniture.

Street furniture such as benches, streetlamps, and shades which are easily accessible in cities has contributed to the promotion of active, lively environment for people living in cities. Furthermore, they make the characteristics of specific regions and cities, and are valued as a communication interface to restore the relationships between people and cities. The street furniture design with inherent publicness is an essential element for leisurely life and refined image of modern people who have experienced severance and mental poverty in uniform, vertical modern city space with the development of advanced science and technology. The purpose of this study is to analyze the new design approaches to street furniture which plays an important role in the determination of the images of modern city environment and to examine the characteristics and trends of such designs. First, in accordance with the flow of studies from publicness and public space to street furniture, the concept and meaning of publicness which is the basic element of public space were identified through theoretical examination, and the characteristics and roles of modern public space were analyzed through literature review, data review, and international cases. Based on the results of this theoretical analysis, the concept and meaning elements, function elements, and design elements of the street furniture which was planned in accordance with the goal and functions of public space were identified. For the meaning elements of street furniture design, fun, health, culture, sustainability, and vitalization were identified. For the function elements of street furniture design, convenience, safety, and delivery were identified. As the characteristics of modern street furniture design, convergent, green, digilog, functional, and universal designs were analyzed. This study is meaningful in that it recognized the roles of street furniture in modern public space as a concrete, practical environmental design element and estimated the development directions of street furniture design in public space.

The rapid increase in apartments of Korea brought about overall changes in the life style, and definitely played the biggest role to convert into western style. Since 1960, furniture has been changed for 50 years along with apartments, but furniture companies and the academic world had insufficient historical materials and lack of study. In addition, considering the changing trend according to residents' life style, the data of furniture industries should be collected to study every year or in 5 years at least. Therefore, this study aims to provide basic data that gives historical materials or design clues based on recent AV equipment-oriented storage furniture in the living room that prioritized design in public space. Accordingly, the study looked into the periodical trends of Korean furniture industries, analyzed 10 furniture companies in Korea which is actively doing business as the sample and arranged key points of periodical changes of furniture in the table, and suggested the conclusion according to the image map, style, color, material, and function.

German furniture design had been downward in trend after Bauhaus closed and through the War. Meanwhile Italy emerged as a center in furniture industry after the Second World War. After the Unification in 1989, however, German furniture still play predominant role in the world since they have their own unique quality and territory. This study explores the significance of German furniture design by three different eras-Post-war recession (1946-1965), Arising times (1966-1989), Contemporary (1990-2005)-and categorized the major characteristics are summarized as in the below. Environmental furniture comprises an independent design branch as distinguished from he design of street furniture. Environmental furniture helps people enjoy outdoor relaxation and cultural activities by creating convenient facilities and plays a part as the medium connecting environment and living. As a tool effecting all outdoor living conditions including home and public environment, it helps people lead a convenient and safe outdoor life. It is an important element that contributes to the image of outdoor scenery. Therefore, the design of environmental furniture should : 1)consider environment including 3R(Recycle, Reuse and Reduce) which makes harmony with nature without destroying it. 2)seek qualitative improvement by using environmental friendly materials and continuously developing new materials. 3)be assisted by the administrative support from the government to make the environmental furniture design an integral part of the city plan. The quality of a city environment will be greatly improved when people's interest in and their changed view towards environmental furniture is effected.

The bentwood technique was introduced for the Windsor chair for the first time in the 18th Century. It was Michael Thonet who produced the bentwood chair in Austria around the 1870's, and it has changed the perception of architects and designers since then. The bentwood chair suggested a new and eccentric way of manufacturing furniture and the process of producing materials for it. Moreover, the method of furniture assembling, with screw nails, made a positive contribution not only to the convenience of transport and distribution of furniture to anywhere in the world, but also to the development of mass production of furniture for the multitudes. The bentwood technique of Michael Thonet was developed much further by Alvar Aalto, who inferred a soft curve from nature and developed the beauty of modern laminated bentwood by using birch, a plentiful resource of Finland. This study will help us to understand the functions and process of bentwood furniture, and help to develop technical skills for diverse furniture design. It will also confirm that diverse bentwood furniture design will be possible by applying materials, technical skills and the design process of bentwood according to the characteristics and concept of furniture design.

The attempt of the contemporary society to overcome the environmental crisis is considered what the whole world is currently interested in. Since value of resources recycling has become emphasized even more, the field of design is, now, working hard to prove how much they are passionate about this eco-friendly design. Of all those activities that the field of design is involving in, a concept called 'upcycling' is receiving the greatest spotlight as a new trend. When it comes to upcycling, you should understand it as a both functional and aesthetic upgraded idea of conventional 'recycling' which would re-use waste resources. With this upcycling, you will have a chance to re-create an object of a new value, and it is a design concept which would consider environmental aspects but also social aspects. Since the year of 2000, the field of furniture design has been pursuing a new design trend which would intensively concern this upcycling concept. In the light of the present circumstances described on the above, this study conducts a case analysis on how upcycling of different materials is applied to furniture design since the year 2000. In doing so, the study improve understanding on furniture design as proposing new ways for you to look at the concerned design. Not only that, it also comes up with ideas and directions for new upcycling furniture design which could be demanded by the environmental industry.

As the machinery-centered mechanism has been changing into human-entered digitalization and urbanization, industrial and social structures gradually become softer. Also in design, with the growing success in solving technological problems, a new dimensional concept is demanded, along with the expanded scope of design application. For the purpose of developing a furniture design contributing to better human life, the study aims to sufficiently examine senses and psychological conditions of human beings and explore the design practically meeting consumer's desires. It is necessary to systemize and establish the study on human senses as one of the scientific fields in the near future and work together with experts from a wide range of areas, by reflecting the outcomes of studies on furniture design. In addition, it is expected that exploration of sensible furniture meeting consumer's demands and effective understanding resulted problems will help such design applied to sociability and humanity problems in a reasonable manner as a sensible design.
