A Study on Institutional Types of Residents Support Project for the Vitalization of Locating Locally Unwanted Land Uses in the Metropolitan Area

  • In this study there was the analysis of government incentives and resident support of public crematoriums, typically identified in Korea as a locally unwanted land use (LULUs), in the metropolitan area. The study looked at what government programs would be potential incentives for allowing the crematoriums to exist in metropolitan communities. Such programs were diverse, with projects focused on: enhancing resident welfare, increasing resident income, funeral facilities and management consignment, community oriented programs, education, funding, and others. Among them, it was found that residents were most in support of programs for enhancing resident welfare and increasing income among residents. In order to resolve the complexities of community support for LULUs and government incentives to shift public perception of cremation, three main policies are proposed. First, it would be necessary to compliment additional project support policies which provide medical services, resident prefered projects, and improvement of substandard housing. Second, it would be important to establish ordinances concretely identifying residential support projects based on community needs assessment. Lastly, it would be of the government's best interest to build policies for resident supported projects that reflect local conditions and the residents' demands for allowing non-preferred facilities to be built, and then to analyze the economic feasibility of these demands.

조선조 숙종대 혼전조성과 그 특징에 관한 연구 - 창경궁 문정전을 중심으로 - (The Study on the Character and Formation of the Honjeon during the Reign of Sukjong in Joseon Dynasty - Centering on Munjeongjeon in ChangkyeongGung -)

  • This study intends to look into management and architectural space composition of Honjeon during the reign of Sukjong. Also it purposes to inspect how to affect management of the Royal Palace. The study is based on each Binjeon Honjeon Dogam Eugwe between late 17C and 18C. And the data on management of the Royal Palace is based on Joseonwangjosillok and Seungjeongwon Ilgi. Because Sukjong used ChangDeokgung and GyeongDeokgung alternately, Honjeon located at Munjeongjeon of ChangGyeonggung during Sukjong stayed at ChangDeokgung and located at Gyesangdang of GyeongDeokgung during Sukjong stayed at GyeongDeokgung. At that time, often movement of the King modified procedure of moving Honjeon. Between the first year of Hyenjong and the 9th year of Sukjong, architectural space of Honjeon was settled. In 1659, territory of Jeongjeon was settled. Also between 1674 and 1684, Goklimcheong was built. Construction of Goklimcheong is noticeable character. As Munjeongjeon was being used as Honjeon continually, it was recognized as Honjeon. Due to its long utilization as Honjeon, several gonvernment offices were transferred. Also it influenced utilization of Myeongjeongjeon.

일 지역주민의 죽음관과 돌봄행위 (The Notion of Death and Caring Behaviors in one Community)

  • This study was to find out the perceptions of toward death and caring behavior of lay persons in one community : One Island in Puan County, Chonbuk. The methodology of this study was ethnography. For this study, the fieldwork was conducted from October 1997 to July 1998. Data collected by in-depth interview and participant observations. The participants consisted fo were 17 persons of both sexes. The key informants were four specific people. The result of this study is as follows ; The people perceived two different kinds of death. Normal death, which means death from old age. The person was respected as an ancestor God and was believed to exist forever with their offspring. Abnormal death was regarded as negative, many had fears toward this kind of death. The causes of abnormal death were supernatural phenomena and had absolute holy meanings. Whether death was good or bad, the death was not personal, but collective events as family or community affairs and was interpreted as death and birth for their offsprings. Funeral rites were family-centered and/or com munity-centered. They did normal procedures for normal deaths for abnormal deaths, there were many protective ceremonies(BuJungMagi : the prevention of the taboo of uncleanliness) for the remaining people. These ceremonies combined confucism and shamanism. Caring behavior for dying persons was ruled as community-centered, reciprocal and reality-centered principles.

임신 및 출산 풍습에 관한 비교문화연구: 한국, 홍콩 및 미국의 어머니-할머니 세대를 중심으로 (Cross-Cultural Study on the Pregnant and Childbirth Practices in Mother-Grandmother Generations of Korea, Hong-Kong, and the United States)

  • This study was to investigate differences or similarities in pregnant and childbirth practices of Korea, Hong Kong and the United States and of mother-grandmother generations in each culture. The subjects were young mothers(YM) have baby from 2 to 2.5 years and their mothers or mothers-in-law(GM) in Korea(YM=118, GM=118), Hong Kong(YM=126, GM=78) and the United States(YM=105, GM=105). The subjects answered the questionnaires on pregnant and childbirth practices were constructed by specialists of child study in Korea, Hong Kong and the United States. Statistical analyses were by Frequencies, Percentages, Crosstabs, One-wav ANOVA, Scheffe' test, t-test. The results of this study were as follows. 1. Mother and grandmothers of Korea more tended to believe in supernatal being of pregnancy, to expect son, to eat a resortive and a food to help conceive, to inhibit attending a funeral at the time of childbearing, to practice fetal education than of Hong Kong and the United States did. 2. Relating sexual intercourse at the time of ovulation, maternal health care during the pregnancy, childbirth in hospital, husband's being in the hospital waiting room when their wife gave birth were much more prevailant in mothers than grandmothers did in Korea and Hong Kong.

인도시원불탑(印度始原佛塔)의 의미론적(意味論的) 해석(解析) - 불탑건축의 전래와 양식에 관한 비교론적 고찰 I - (Semantic Analysis of Indian Original Stupa - A Comparative Study on the Transmission and Style of the Buddhist Pagoda I -)

  • Wherever Buddhism has flourished, there were stupas in the form of monuments which have their origin in the tumulm of prehistoric times. After the death of Buddha, his body was cremated following the Indian funeral custom. His ashes, which long reserved for the remains of nobles and holymen, were enshrined under such artificial hills of earth and brick. The Stupa was in origin a simple burial-mound. The form of the burial-mound was a symbolical or magic reconstruction of the imagined shape of the sky, like a dome covering the earth. The domical form of the earliest tumuli may have been concious replicas of the shape of the Vedic hut. There are relationships which may have originally existed between the stupa and West Asiatic monuments. Buddhist Stupa originally cosisted of an almost hemispherical tumulus(anda) and an altar-like structure (harmika) on its top, surmounted by one or several superimposed honorific umbrellas (hti, catta). This hemispherical form is associated with centralisation, lunar worship, mother earth, and Siva. Anda means a symbol of latent creative power, the harmika symbolizes the sanctuary enthroned aboved the world. The honorific umbrella, as an abstract imitation of the shade-giving tree is one of the chief solar symbols and that of enlightenment.

18~19세기 의전(衣廛)의 영업 활동과 상권 변동 (The Business Activities in Ui-jeon and their Effects on Commercial Power in the 18th-19th Centuries)

  • This paper summarized the forming, structure and management of the Ui-Jeon(衣廛) in Joseon Dynasty, considered the change of the commercial power of the Ui-Jeon in the $18{\sim}19th$ centuries. The Ui-Jeon was established the early period of the Joseon Dynasty. The Ui-Jeon merchants organized the association named Dojung(都中) and were in business with facilities like Haenrang(行廊) and Doga(都家). The Ui-Jeon was mid-sized Si-Jeon, the licensed shop(市廛). The Ui-Jeon held the monopoly of clothes. The Ui-Jeon merchants sold and bought old clothes, sold new clothes, lent the wedding dress for a bridegroom. The Ui-Jeon paid taxes and supplied clothes, goods and sewing labor for the marriage, funeral ceremonies of the royal family. The commercial power of the Ui-Jeon was threatened by free merchants(私商) named old clothes mercants(破衣商). Finally the Ui-Jeon merchants lost the exclusive right to clothes in 1791. After that, the Ui-Jeon merchanrs appealed to the government to give them the monopoly. The Ui-Jeon merchants regained the sole right to sell Ju-ui(紬衣), one item only, but it was temporary. Separately The Ui-Jeon merchants acquired the rights to collect the sub-taxes(分稅) from free merchants.

16세기 여성 복식에 관한 연구 - 남양홍씨 몽남(夢男: $1534{\sim}1574$) 배위 연안김씨 묘 출토복식을 중심으로 - (Study on the Excavated Costumes of Yeon-An Kim Clan, a Wife of Mong-Nam ($1534{\sim}1574$), who Belongs to Nam-yang Hong clan)

  • This study is about the excavated female shroud while moving the graveyard of Nam-yang Hong clan in Yang-pyeong, Gyeonggi Province to other place. It is acquired as Yeon-An Kim clan who is a wife of one of Nam-yang Hong clan and history is estimated to 16th Century. Significance of this excavated female costumes is, 1) a Dan-ryeong, which is typical costumes during 16C. for woman is excavated. It is embroidered with peacocks shaped badge in fore and backside on a clothes, which is understood as the symbol of highest status but it is considered as much higher than actual status of her husband. from this, we can assume that burial costumes and regulation for actual clothes by the status are not exactly matched. 2) Various form of Chima and Jegori also found in the grave along with a Buddhist banner(幡) printed with Darani(多羅尼) which is unusual in Chosun dynasty, under confucian influence. 3) An embroidered design pillow was collected first time, which make us enable to understand the in-house life style of 16C.

국가장법과 국가장 대상자의 제한 문제 (Issues of State Funeral Act and Restrictions on the Persons Eligible for State Funerals)

  • '국가장법'(國家葬法)은 국가 또는 사회에 현저한 공훈을 남겨 국민의 추앙을 받는 사람이 서거(逝去)한 경우에 그 장례를 경건하고 엄숙하게 집행함으로써 국민 통합에 이바지하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 현행 국가장법이 규정하고 있는 국가장의 대상자는 (1) 전직 현직 대통령, (2) 대통령당선인, (3) 국가 또는 사회에 현저한 공훈을 남겨 국민의 추앙을 받는 사람이다. 위 사람들이 서거한 경우에는 유족 등의 의견을 고려하여 행정안전부장관의 제청으로 국무회의(國務會議)의 심의를 마친 후 대통령이 결정하는 바에 따라 국가장(國家葬)으로 할 수 있다. '대통령을 지냈다는 이유만으로 그 공과(功過)를 떠나 국가장으로 장례를 거행하는 것이 타당한지 의문이 든다. 현행 국가장법은 국가장 대상자의 제한에 대한 명확한 규정이 마련되어 있지 않아, 대통령이 재임중이나 퇴임후 내란죄나 직권남용죄, 뇌물죄 등 중범죄로 처벌받은 경우에도 국가장 대상자가 될 수 있는가에 대한 의문이 제기된다. 또한 헌법재판소의 탄핵결정을 받아 대통령직에서 파면당한 대통령이나, 탄핵소추의결서가 송달된 후 탄핵결정 전 스스로 사임한 경우까지 국가장으로 하는 것도 국민정서 등을 고려해 볼 때 문제가 있다고 할 것이다. 본고에서는 역대 전직대통령들의 장례 선례를 살펴보고, 현행 국가장법에 명확한 규정이 없는 국가장 대상자의 제한 문제를 검토한다.

추모공원 설계기법에 관한 연구 -국내외 추모공원 사례를 중심으로- (A Study on Memorial Park Design Method)

  • This study focuses on design method of the memorial park for the improvement of the funeral culture in Korea. Through the comparative analysis between domestic and overseas cases, this study articulates the issues that should be taken into consideration in the design of memorial park and categorizes such issues in accordance with their types. According to comparative analysis, the characteristics of domestic and overseas cases can be summed up as follows. Most of the overseas cases can be characterized with creative concepts and images in their designs because designs are not only based on the issues articulated in this study but also show a various patterns issue by issue. On the other hand, domestic cases do not show differentiated images from others, which results from the uniform design that disregards the issues articulated in this study. The memorial park for the future should be designed to play a significant role of citizens´ park under the new conceptual framework. Therefore, the issues articulated from this study should be reflected in the design of memorial park. In addition, various types by issue should be introduced to design of memorial park. The purpose of this study is to suggest basic criteria for the design of future pattern, not simply to compare the strength and weakness of different types. This study has a limitation in that it does not offer comprehensive information of what types of memorial park will coincide with the Korean's collective sentiment. Therefore, impending tasks of further researches should involve the opinion and preferences of citizens concerning the design of memorial park.

공간계량모형을 이용한 도시와 농촌의 비선호시설이 토지 가격에 미치는 영향 분석 (The Effects of Non-Preferred Facilities on Land Prices in Urban and Rural Areas using Spatial Econometrics)

  • Land price can be affected by convenience or psychological repulsion like PIMFY (Please In My Front Yard) or NIMBY (Not In My Back Yard) for various facilities. The purpose of this study is to evaluate whether non-preferred facilities are related to NIMBY impact that negatively affect land prices using the spatial econometrics models which are spatial autoregressive models (SAR), spatial errors models (SEM), and general spatial model (SAC). The land price in urban area increases by 0.07-0.2% when the distance from aversion facilities increases by 1%. However, the land price in rural areas decreases when the distance from aversion or pollution facilities increase. Therefore, these facilities in rural areas located in the areas with higher land price because funeral homes located in center of rural administrative areas and charnel house or crematorium located in the fringe of urban areas. That is, this study explain the difference between land price and non-preferred facilities in urban and rural areas and why there are more N IMBY symptoms in urban areas.
