The Global Positioning System technology has been widely used in positioning and attitude determination. It is well known that the accuracy, availability and reliability of the positioning results are heavily dependent on the number and geometric distribution of tracked GPS satellites. Because of this limitation, in some situations, such as in urban canyons, underground or inside of buildings, it is difficult to navigate with GPS receiver. Therefore, in order to improve the performance of satellite-based positioning, the integration of GPS with the pseudolite technology has been proposed. With this pseudolite technology, it is expected that seamless positioning service can be provided in a wider area without replacing existing GPS receivers. On the other hand, to adopt pseudolites on a larger scale, it is necessary to verify how the pseudolites may complement the existing GPS-based positioning. In this paper the authors present the details of the experiments and the results of the fundamental verification for seamless positioning using integration of GPS and pseudolite. This paper shows that the accuracy and efficiency of integrating GPS and pseudolite through the dynamic and static positioning experiment. The influence of pseudolite signal on GPS receiver is also discussed. The experimental results indicate that the accuracy of the height component can indeed be significantly improved, to approximately the same level as the horizontal component.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the strategies and the experiences of 3 university hospitals relevant to environmentally-friendly strategy in their hospitals and to find out the implication for spreading the environmentally-friendly hospital management to other Korean hospitals. The study was progressed from October to November 2010 through the in depth interview with middle manager of the hospitals. Interview items about environmentally-friendly hospital management were selected from ISO 14001, Korean Green Management Certification Scheme, Green Guide Operation Version 2.2 of GGHC, Eco-ChecklistTM, Self-Assessment Tool of "Practice Greenhealth" and some accreditation credits of LEED, BREEAM, GreenStar. The case study result implies that the following strategies are so critical to settle environmentally-friendly hospitals in Korea: 1)understanding about fundamental concept of environmentally-friendly hospital, 2)organizing green teams, 3)purchasing environmentally-friendly goods, 4)benchmarking other successful hospitals, 5)adopting easy & reasonable policy first, 6)managing accumulated data & performance about energy efficiency, and 7)educating the employee about environmentally-friendly hospitals strategies. Hospitals have to keep in pace with the change in government policy and scheme like as GHG & Energy Target Management System, Korean Green Management Certification Scheme, ESCO, and so on for achieving the successful environmentally-friendly hospitals.
Under the conventional control strategy, the asymmetry of arm impedances may result in the poor operating performance of modular multilevel converters (MMCs). For example, fundamental frequency oscillation and double frequency components may occur in the dc and ac sides, respectively; and submodule (SM) capacitor voltages among the arms may not be balanced. This study presents an enhanced control strategy to deal with these problems. A mathematical model of an MMC with asymmetric arm impedance is first established. The causes for the above phenomena are analyzed on the basis of the model. Subsequently, an enhanced current control with five integrated proportional integral resonant regulators is designed to protect the ac and dc terminal behavior of converters from asymmetric arm impedances. Furthermore, an enhanced capacitor voltage control is designed to balance the capacitor voltage among the arms with high efficiency and to decouple the ac side control, dc side control, and capacitor voltage balance control among the arms. The accuracy of the theoretical analysis and the effectiveness of the proposed enhanced control strategy are verified through simulation and experimental results.
The purpose of this paper is to study a high-performance control scheme for neutral-point-clamping three-level (NPC-3L) inverter fed dual three-phase permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drives by considering some asymmetric factors such as the non-identical parameters in phase windings. To implement this, the system model is analyzed for dual three-phase PMSM drives with asymmetric factors based on the vector space decomposition (VSD) principle. Based on the equivalent circuits, PI controllers with feedforward compensation are used in the d-q subspace for regulating torque, where the cut-off frequency of the PI controllers are set at the twice the fundamental frequency for compensating both the additional DC component and the second order component caused by asymmetry. Meanwhile, proportional resonant (PR) controllers are proposed in the x-y subspace for suppressing the possible unbalanced currents in the phase windings. A dual three-phase space vector modulation (DT-SVM) is designed for the drive, and the balancing factor is designed based on the numerical fitting surface for balancing the DC link capacitor voltages. Experimental results are given to demonstrate the validity of the theoretical analysis and the proposed control scheme.

The design rules are being more strict with requirement of operation speed and development of IC industry. For this reason, required minimum line-width has been narrowed under sub-micron region. As the length of minimum line-width is narrowed, local and global planarization are being prominent. CMP(Chemical-Mechanical Polishing), one of the planarizarion technology, is a process which polishes with the ascent of chemical reaction and relative velocity between pad and wafer without surface defects. CMP is performed with a complex interaction among many factors, how CMP has an interaction with such factors is not evident. Accordingly, the studies on this are still carrying out. Therefore, an examination of the CMP phenomena and an accurate understanding of compositive factors are urgently needed. In this paper, we will consider of the relations between the effects of temperature which influences many factors having an effect on polishing results and the characteristics of CMP in order to understand and estimate the influence of temperature. Then, through the interaction of shown temperature and polishing result, we could expect to boost fundamental understanding on complex CMP phenomena.
Eco-friendly and sustainable seaweed biomass energy have been under the spotlight as the future of renewable energy. However, seaweed culture is primarily conducted inshore, with the research on offshore culture still in an early stage. For massive biomass production, a systematic engineering approach is required to devise offshore seaweed culture facilities rather than the conventional empirical ones. To establish the fundamental behavior of seaweed culture facilities, the dynamic characteristics of a seaweed culture facility were analyzed in the study. For this purpose, numerical analyses of the seaweed culture facility (a frame type) were carried out by using the hydrodynamic simulation program ANSYS-AQWA. For the analysis, environmental loads were considered using the wave spectra and co-linear current; mooring variables were selected as parameters; and time domain analyses were carried out to acquire the time series responses and eventually the dynamic characteristics. Finally, the mooring performance was evaluated. It was found that the motion could be controlled by adjusting the buoyancy and mooring slope.
In different high seismic regions around the world, many non-ductile existing reinforced concrete frame buildings, built without adequate seismic detailing requirements, have been damaged or collapsed after past earthquakes. The assessment and the retrofit of these non-ductile concrete structures is crucial theme of research for all the scientific community of engineers. In particular, a careful assessment of the existing building is fundamental for understanding the failure mechanisms that govern the collapse of the structure or the achievement of the recommended limit states. Based on the seismic assessment, the best retrofit strategy can be designed and applied to the structure. A school building located in Avellino province (Italy) is the case study. The analysis of seismic vulnerability carried out on the mentioned building has highlighted deficiencies in both static and seismic load conditions. The retrofit of the building has been designed based on different retrofit options in order to show the real retrofit design developed from the engineers to achieve the seismic safety of the building. The retrofit costs associated to structural operations are calculated for each case and have been summed up to the costs of the in situ tests. The paper shows a real retrofit design case study in which the best solution is chosen based on the results in terms of structural performance and cost among the different retrofit options.
Since the accident at the Fukushima Daiichi power plant, Prussian blue (PB) has attracted increasing attention as a material for use in decontaminating the environment. We have focused the fundamental mechanism of specific $Cs^+$ adsorption into PB in order to develop high-performance PB-based $Cs^+$ adsorbents. The ability of PB to adsorb Cs varies considerably according to its origin such as what synthesis method was used, and under what conditions the PB was prepared. It has been commonly accepted that the exclusive abilities of PB to adsorb hydrated $Cs^+$ ions are caused by regular lattice spaces surrounded by cyanido-bridged metals. $Cs^+$ ions are trapped by simple physical adsorption in the regular lattice spaces of PB. $Cs^+$ ions are exclusively trapped by chemical adsorption via the hydrophilic lattice defect sites with proton-exchange from the coordination water. Prussian blue are believed to hold great promise for the clean-up of $^{137}Cs$ contaminated water around nuclear facilities and/or after nuclear accidents.

The decomposition of 50 pesticides present in an aqueous solution using ${\gamma}-irradiation$ from a $^{60}Co$ gamma-ray source was investigated using laboratory-scale experiment. The rates of decomposition were determined using a gas chromatography-electron capture detector (GC-ECD), high-performance liquid chromatography-photo diode array detector (HPLC-PDA), and HPLC-fluorescence detector (FLD). When the initial concentration of pesticides was 10 ppm, and the radiation dose was 2, 5, 10, 20, and 30 kGy, respectively, 14 pesticide samples showed high removal rates (>50%) at absorbed doses of more than 10 kGy. With the exception of procymidone, they were all completely removed at a 30 kGy irradiation dose. These results provide fundamental data on the reactivity between gamma-irradiation and pesticides in an aqueous solution. Further, an evaluation of the toxicity of radiolytic intermediate products is required.
The retention behavior of proteins was investigated by using hydrophobic interaction chromatography (HIC), comparing to the results obtained in reversed-phase chromatography (RPC) described in the previous paper. A SynChropak propyl column was employed with 0.05 M phosphate buffer (pH 7.0) containing sodium sulfate. Conformational changes were recognized by examining Z values as a function of sodium sulfate concentration over a range of temperature between 5 and 65$^{\circ}C$. Z values did not change significantly at the range of the temperature showing the consistent ${\Delta}H^{\circ}$ and ${\Delta}S^{\circ}$ values. The sign and the magnitude of ${\Delta}H^{\circ}$ and ${\Delta}S^{\circ}$ of proteins in HIC were compared with those obtained in RPC. The signs of ${\Delta}H^{\circ}$ and ${\Delta}S^{\circ}$ of proteins in HIC were all positive, while those of proteins in RPC were all negative. These results suggested that the retention of proteins in HIC and in RPC were entropy-driven and enthalpy-driven process, respectively. From the two different investigations, it was concluded that the retention mechanism of RPC and HIC was based on the same fundamental principle in which separation is dependent on hydrophobicity, but the retention behavior of the proteins in HIC is clearly different from that observed in RPC.
