This study was performed to provide fundamental data to establish the new soil pollution standards and the soil contamination management plans in a rational manner. The distribution characteristics of new soil contaminants such as barium (Ba) and chromium (Cr) in soils (n=140) were investigated in relation to land-use classification and geological features. Also, the sequential extraction test was conducted to evaluate fate and mobility of new soil contaminants. The soil samples taken from 140 sites were analyzed to survey distribution levels of selected new soil contaminants. The average concentration and range for hazardous metals (Ba, Cr) were Ba 128.946 (26.757~489.587) mg/kg, Cr 30.121 (2.579~132.783) mg/kg. Based on land use classification, the highest Ba concentration was found in factory soils, followed by dry field and park soils, while Cr concentration was highest in rice paddy soils, followed by dry field and factory soils. Within 10 geological units investigated the highest Ba and Cr concentrations were observed in the soils from Okcheon group and metamorphic rocks, respectively. The BCR (European Community Bureau of Reference) sequential extraction was conducted to identify chemical distributional existence of 2 elements of soils from each geological unit. Ba in soils is mainly assumed to exists as reducible form (such as BaSO4, BaCO3) and Cr in soils mainly is assumed to exist as residual form (such as Cr2O3, CrxFe1-x(OH)3(x < 1)).
As Korean cuisine is one of our cultural assets and has global potential, it needs to be better marketed and known to the world. However, there is a lack of research examining what to and how to globalize Korean cuisine practically. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to suggest fundamental reasons and ways to globalize Korean cuisine from a multicultural point of view. A Delphi method was selected because the study is suitable for a structured group of experts instead of unstructured groups or individuals. A panel of experts were selected from two groups, Korean experts and international experts. This research established the characteristics of Korean foods, the difficulties of Korean cooking methods and the incorporation or substitution of Western ingredients in two rounds. A panel of experts suggested strategies for globalizing Korean cuisine in the third round. As a result, meaningful solutions were suggested such as increasing the global profile and knowledge of Korean cuisine from 18 experts out of 23, developing various cooking methods for Korean-cuisine having distinctively Korean characteristics from 17 experts out of 23, developing recipes that are compatible with equipment and appliances in a western kitchen, and considering the differences in taste and texture(mouth-feeling) between Korean and the Western people.
Discussions and debates over media education abound in Korra as the number of both institutions that provide media related education and students enrollment for these programs increases rapidly in recent years. In spite of this rather impressive expansion, however, many have raised serious questions about media education of Korea for its not being able to meet the need of the Industry and students, and, moreover, inability to face the challenges brought by new communication related technologies. Who teaches What for what purposes are some of the fundamental questions underlying these heated debates and discussions. To understand these rather complex and interrelated issues more clearly, it is attempted to delineate the nature of these debates by exploring the evolutionary process of media education. The issues related to debates over purposes of media education, curriculum, and faculty qualification have changed through the history of media education, but the nature of the debates, that is the struggle between professionalism and academism, or the tension between practice and theory, has not. Upon this understanding, some argue that what distinguishes opposing sets of dichotomies, such as skills vs. knowledge, training vs. education, now-how vs. know-why. professional vs. academic, practice vs. theory, is more a reflection of social class division and group interests which have privileged theory over practice than a rational scholastic distinction. In addition, it has been often pointed out that the media studies have failed to establish ties with specific industries, and furthermore academic studies seriously lack solid theoretical and practical bases. In the case of the United States, leaders of the industry had contributed much for the Initiation of journalism education in a college setting. However, once inaugurated,, the process of its evolution has depended heavily on academicians. In a country like Korea, where academic and theoretical orientation is much stronger, these problems of media studies and education are even more acute. In this study, it is suggested that academicians and educators be more open-hearted to the realities of changing world, practices of the industries, and recruitment of professionals and practitioners to fill the gap between practice and theory, for the sake of the future of media studies and education.

This study analyzes the geographic information system (GIS) and machine learning models to understand the relationship between the appearance of hibernation sites and habitats in order to systematically manage the habitat of Asiatic Black Bear(Ursus thibetanus ussuricus) inhabiting Jirisan National Park, South Korea. The most important environmental factors influencing the hibernation sites was found to be the inclination(41.4%), followed by altitude(20.4%), distance from the trail(10.9%), and age group(7.7%) in the order of their contribution. A comparison between the hibernation habitat and the normal habitat of Asiatic Black Bear indicated that the average altitude of the hibernation sites was 63m, whereas the average altitude of the normal habitat was approximately 400m. The average inclination was found to be $7^{\circ}$, and a preference for the steeper inclination of $12-43^{\circ}$ was also observed. The average distance of the hibernation site from the road was approximately 300m; the range of separation distance was found to be 1,300-2,400m. This was thought to be the result of a safer selection of winter hibernation site by preventing human contact and outside invasion. This study analyzes the habitat environmental factors for the selection of hibernation sites that prevent severe cold and other threats during the hibernation period in order to provide fundamental data for hibernation ecology and habitat management of Asiatic Black Bear.

In this study, to analyze the stream health using fish assemblage and make effective management, we conducted fish monitoring in the Hoeya River basin and neighboring streams. A total of 33 species classified into 12 families were collected from 29 sites in 2007. Dominant species was Zacco platypus (Relative abundance, RA: 24.8%), and subdominant species was Rhynchocypris oxycephalus (RA: 16.2%). Eight Korean endemic species and 4 exotic species were identified. Moreover, two species (Opsariichthys uncirostris amurensis and Hemiculter eigenmanni) were translocated from other basin. To evaluate stream health of the study sites, Index of Biological Integrity (IBI) was applied, based on fish assemblages. Overall, IBI values were "C (Fair)" or "D (Poor)" condition, according to the grade except two sites which recorded "B (Good)". The correlation between land use pattern of surrounding watershed and IBI was analyzed to verify impact of development on stream health using fish assemblage. As a result, when percentage of the developmental groups increased, IBI values were decreased (Pearson correlation, r=-0.425, p=0.022). In contrast, increment of percent forest and grass land was positively correlated with IBI (r=0.556, p=0.002). The agricultural group and IBI did not significantly correlate with each other (r=-0.231, p=0.333). In this study, we identified a relationship between land use of surrounding watershed and stream health using fish data (i.e. IBI). These results could be provided useful fundamental information to establish management and restoration plan in the Hoeya River basin and other rivers distributed in Korea.
This study was conducted to obtain fundamental informations necessary to breed forage sorghum at the field of the Livestock Experiment Station from 1988 to 1991. Heterosis was discussed in crossing groups of sorghum X sweet sorghum, sorghum X sudangrass, and (sorghum X sweet sorghum) X sudangrass. Leaf dry weight and stalk dry weight per plant in sweet sorghum crossing group, stalk dry weight per plant in sorghum X sudangrass crosses and leaf area per plant in three way crosses showed the greatest Heterobeltiosis(H$_{b}$). There were significant differences in plant height, stalk diameter and number of tillers per plant between sweet sorghum and sudangrass crosses. H$_{b}$ for total dry matter yield in sweet sorghum and sudangrass crosses were 45.9% and 95.0%, respectively. On the other hand, heterosis for total dry matter yield in three way crosses was smaller than H$_{b}$. There was no relationship between dry matter yield of parents and heterosis of hybrids in sweetsorghum crosses. However, positive correlations between parental yield and hybrid yields were observed. In sudangrass crosses, there were negative correlations between parental yields and heterosis of hybrids. However, no correlation between parental yields and hybrid yields were observed. In three way crosses, there were no correlations between parental yields and heterosis, and between parental yields and hybrids yields.
This study aims at looking into the use of oriental medical services in treating disease and patient's attitude of oriental medicine by social classes. The first to be explored through this study is medical accessibility, classifying them by age, gender and job. Second is to examine kinds of oriental medical services and expenses incurred in treating the disease. Third is to compare satisfaction for the services offered and investigate into relations between disease and oriental medicine through cross-analysis by class, and provide fundamental materials for enhancing accessibility to oriental medical centers for treating chronic diseases. The 1,376 households for the period of time from Apr. to Jun. 2005, were asked to answer to the questionnaires offered. The conclusion from the survey can be summarized as follows. Medical services for the onset of disease were less offered to females, older group, low schooling, and low-income bracket. It is attributable to an economic cause, in both genders. The in- and outpatients' rate were found higher in groups of female, older age, low-income and blue-color workers. Use of oriental medical centers were higher in outpatients than inpatients probably for low-income brackets were less frequently put on regular physical checkups, more exposing to diseases. Each hospitalization was found over six days longer in average; 19.7 days for oriental medical hospitals, 12.5 for hospitals. The hospital charges that patients should pay for one hospitalization showed 909,000 won in oriental medical hospitals, much higher than 518,000 won in hospitals. Outpatients were also found to pay more for oriental medical services; 55,000 won for oriental medical hospitals, 19,000 for hospitals. As to outpatients' satisfaction, oriental medical hospitals were generally found to be a little more satisfactory than general hospitals; 11.2% of respondents answered Very Satisfactory. Satisfaction to services offered to outpatients showed 82.2% of respondents responded to Over Satisfactory for herb clinics, 76% for general hospitals. For future intention to use oriental medical services, females, over 51 years old, lower education and income, and blue color workers showed more intention to use them. To be more competitive in treating chronic diseases, it is necessary that oriental medical services become more accessible through extending its coverage of insurance into more medical herbs and their prepared packs, as well as mapping out extensive publicity strategies to make known to the public about high efficacy of medical herbs and their safety.

Recently there has been huge efforts to improve performance in construction process by applying emerging techniques such as the Lean principle, Just-in-time concept and so on. However, little achievement as we expected has come out in reality due to the lack of strategy to set a definite goal of the execution and differences of personal viewpoints on construction productivity. Accordingly, it is the most important to promote the circumstances for the construction process improvement by quantifying the goals of respective unit activity groups. This research explores feasible solutions for the improvement of construction projects performance by combining the six-sigma principle for the generic administrative innovation based on the idea of construction process performance. For this purpose, mutual comparisons of various current approaches are performed in an attempt to establish the advantages in applying six-sigma idea and to provide its fundamental strategy. Furthermore, through a case study with the simulation of applying six-sigma to a unit activity group in construction process, this paper verifies that the overall performance improves as the degree of sigma level gets advanced.
