  • In this paper the relationship between the business performance and the importance perception of management activities is analyzed. The analysis is conducted by dividing the analysis time-frame into before and after the economic recession. In addition, we consider the type of industry and the type of government support policy that the companies participate in. According to the results, the management activities, such as the introduction of domestic external technologies and the release of new products, are to have a significant impact on business performance for both before and after the economic recession. The introduction of foreign external technologies is significant before the economic recession, but after the economic recession the fund raising activity is shown to be significant. Management activities that affect business performance of large/small businesses, IT/non-IT companies, high/low R&D firms and the companies participated in various government support policies are different. In other words, it can be found that the support of management activities that can enhance performance should be done in an appropriate way considering the characteristics of the company rather than being provided to all companies in common.

  • SMEs in Korea are suffering from severe manpower shortage due to poor incentive system and employees' frequent change of jobs. So far, the government has made continuous efforts to solve these problems, but SMEs still have the same problem. It is critical for SMEs to maintain core employees for long term who can directly contribute to the business performance. However, Korean manpower policies for SMEs has mainly focused on hiring new recruits and attracting experienced high caliber employees to SMEs. Relatively, policies for attracting in-house employees to work for longer term were insufficient. This paper focuses on providing strategic policy options to make core employees stay in the company for longer term. For this, it identifies the concept and features of core employees and reviews the necessity of introducing the Mutual Aid Project. Also, it suggests the way to enhance the effectiveness of policy by analyzing current Mutual Aid Fund programs in Korea.

  • This steel has been synthesized integrating concepts from Austempering Ductile Cast Iron (ADI) technology. While ADI has excellent mechanical and physical properties, the Young's modules of ADI is approximately 20% lower than steel. In addition, the presence of graphite nodules in ADI can be sites of crack initiation, where fracture takes place at graphite matrix interface. Because of this limitations of ADI, there has been a growing interest in austempered steels as structural materials in resent years. In this investigation, a new steel with microstructure composed of ferrite and austenite and with simultaneous high tensile strength (1,150 MPa) and high ductility (33%) was developed. The goal of this investigation is to obtain a better understanding of deformation and transformation behaviour in high carbon retained austenite(${\gamma}_{HC}$) and over-saturated ferrite(${\alpha}$) during the plastic deformation. A detailed study of the microstructure of this steel was carried out by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD) and electron back scattering diffraction (EBSD) technic. In this way it was shown that BCC phase (BCC) took up the larger part of the nominal strain whereas the a part of retained austenite responded to the mechanincal load by partial martensite transformation, and misorientation change in the retained austenite after plastic strain could be attributed to the large elongation.

  • The economical efficiency of conversion of the PC (pulverized coal) firing boiler to the CFB (circulating fluidized bed) boiler which used Koran anthracite as fuel was evaluated. The economic feasibility study was also carried out with regard to maintenance of the existing PC boiler. The sensitivity of economical efficiency with variation of the electric power and coal industry and the policy of government was analyzed and compared. As a results of the evaluation, the economical efficiency of maintenance of the existing PC boiler was higher than that of conversion to the CFB boiler because of the special policy of the government for Korean anthracite. However, the conversion to the CFB boiler was more economically attractive from a point of view of effective use of energy resources and future electric power industry. Additionally, the fund support for electric power industry using Korean anthracite would be effective as changing the policy of the government.

  • Given the increasing of adoption of use of Mobile Wireless Technology(MWT), this study aims at investigating the key influencing determinants of individuals' MWT adoption and use. Based on the Technology Acceptance Model(TAM), the research model proposed new constructs and casual relations, Perceived Safety(PS), Perceived Costs(PC), Company's Willingness to Fund(CWF), and Experience(E) as a moderator. The model was tested using Structural Equation Modeling(SEM) using AMOS 5.0 analysis on the sample collected from 387 MBA and Executive MBA students of several domestic and foreign universities. The results show that not only the variables, except Perceived Usefulness, in the original TAM model, but also new variables in the research model had a significant influence on other variables. The implications of the findings suggest a new theoretical framework for future IS/IT research and offers suggestions that the developers of MWT should consider regarding the technology

  • Preconditions for the separation of prescribing and dispensing medicinal herbs in Traditional Korean Medicine are classification of medicinal herbs for general public and special medical uses, establishment of national medicinal herb distribution company of governmental base, restriction in purchase of medicinal herbs for special medical use, partnership between doctors and pharmacists of Traditional Korean Medicine, and coverage of herbal medicine-based medication in national health insurance, etc. The number of Traditional Korean Medicine Pharmacists which was born during 'the herbal medicine conflict' initiated in 1993, goes over 1,000 and will increase by 120 annually. The number of Traditional Korean Medical Doctors is over 17,000 and increases by 850 annually. So in order to engage partnership between two groups, the government have to arrange the number of outputs of each group. Standardization and classification of diagnosis and diseases in Traditional Korean Medicine is a matter of course in the separation of prescribing and dispensing medicinal herbs. Related societies and academies need to do researches with governmental fund first. After these works, we can launch a task force team for implementation of process for the separation of prescribing and dispensing medicinal herbs in Traditional Korean Medicine properly. Entering the national health insurance system for full coverage of Korean Medicine care service will be essential for the patients. Implementation the separation of prescribing and dispensing medicinal herbs in Traditional Korean Medicine would be the core of health insurance coverage for medication.

  • Even after successful technology development, there are many cases where commercialization fails due to difficulties in financing in the early stages of commercialization. The purpose of this study is to give practical implications to technology-based founders. At the beginning of commercialization, 7 companies that succeeded in procuring different types of external funds were selected to conduct case analysis. The results are as follow. First, it was confirmed that the excellence of technology is the most important. Second, it was confirmed that they were majors in the relevant technology field or have worked in related fields, and concluded that greater synergy effect can be created by adding the founder's business will and active attitude. Third, even if the company's internal capabilities were insufficient, it was possible to succeed in financing by identifying and utilizing external financial information. Fourth, it is necessary to utilize a linked financial system that receives both loans and investments. Fifth, systematic IR (Investor Relation) should be continued.

  • The Swedish Fire Research Board was established in 1979 to initiate and fund relevant fire research efforts. The Board is responsible for a long term research programme revised every third year, and the Board is one of two major Swedish sponsors of all fire research. Beside the Board we also have the Swedish National Rescue Services, funded by the government. BRANDFORSK gives very high priority for the industry and the insurance company and the need they express for fire research. Research that the Rescue Services Board are funding is mainly focusing the need for the fire department. The Swedish Fire Research Board, BRANDFORSK, is the joint agency of the Swedish government, the insurance industry and the business sector, for the initiation, funding and supervision of different kinds of fire research. Work is directed by a Programme Board and is performed in the form of projects at universities, research institutes, state authorities and private firms. The Secretariat of BRANDFORSK shares the premises of the Swedish Fire Protection Association, SFPA, and the SFPA is the principal and the party which enters into agreement with the State. The programme for the period 1997-1999 has been drawn up on the basis of both damage development and the trends in society which can be noted, and the evident fire problems of the interested parties and their need for fire research. The inputs in the programme have been broken down seven problem areas. In every problem area different project areas are set out, and these primarily specify the aim of the work. Our seven problem-areas are; Costs and benefits of fire protection measure. The role and behaviour of people and organizations Fire In buildings Fire in underground facilities Rescue operations fire in industries Fire and the environment. In comparison with previous fire research programmes, cost/benefit studies have been accorded higher priority, and this is also reflected in other problem areas. Grater Emphasis
