  • Despite a growing number of natural language processing shared-tasks dedicated to the use of Twitter data, there is currently no ad-hoc annotation tool for the purpose. During the 6th edition of Biomedical Linked Annotation Hackathon (BLAH), after a short review of 19 generic annotation tools, we adapted GATE and TextAE for annotating Twitter timelines. Although none of the tools reviewed allow the annotation of all information inherent of Twitter timelines, a few may be suitable provided the willingness by annotators to compromise on some functionality.

  • Use of a hypertext is growing as multimedia and hypermedia systems become popular. The major difference between hypertext-based and ordinary user interfaces is navigation. Typically, there are two major navigation problems in a hypertext compared to the ordinary user interface: "Disorientation" and "Cognitive Overload". To reduce or eliminate these problems of the hypertext system, a variety of aiding tools have been proposed. Among them, a local map is a good tool for helping users navigate through screens, especially for a large and complex system. This study examined three major design variables of a local map in a hypertext: breadth, depth, and functionality of a map. A human factors experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of these variables. Based upon the results of the experiment, design guidelines are suggested.

  • The factors involved in development of electronic grading systems for commodities such as grains and seeds include determination of the factors that influence the end-product utilization of the commodities, and the degree to which these can be predicted by electronic methods. The possibility of exchanging existing methods of grading by electronic methods has to be considered. The respective merits of techniques such as Digital Imaging and Near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy have to be considered. Digital Imaging is a computerized version of visual inspection and grading, whereas NIR spectroscopy has the potential for grading on the basis of composition and functionality, Selection and evaluation of NIR instruments is an important factor, as are sampling and sample presentation to electronic instruments, and particularly the engineering involved in sample presentation. Sample assembly, and software for calibration development are described in the presentation. Finally the impact and implications of introduction of electronic grading are discussed with particular attention to marketing of the commodities.

  • Offshore wind power is one of the largest-scale solutions for a nuclear- and pollution-free electricity supply in the future. Recently, the research for offshore wind power has started in Korea. However, there has been little effort specifically made for the exploration and evaluation of mechanical characteristics for offshore underwater soil deposits. In offshore wind power system, this is important as consistent and safe maintenance of structural functionality of the system is key for the wind power system to be successfully implemented. In this study, case examples from foreign offshore wind power sites are selected and analyzed. And design methods and factors of offshore wind power system foundation are investigated.

  • After the GBAS ground system installing at the airport, a GBAS ground and flight testing must be conducted to verify functionality and performance of the system. Since Korea has no experience of the GBAS ground system installation, GBAS test and evaluation methods have never been studied so far. Therefore this paper analyzes the test items and methods for the GBAS ground and flight testing based on ICAO documents, FAA flight inspection manual and testing reports of other countries. As a result of the analysis, this paper proposes the GBAS ground and flight testing items in korea, also describes the flight procedures for the GBAS flight testing.

  • The study of the early age concrete properties is becoming more important, as the thermal effects and the shrinkage, even in the first hours, could generate cracks, increasing the permeability of the structure and being able to induce problems of durability and functionality in the same ones. The detailed study of the stresses development during the construction process can be decisive to keep low the cracking levels. In this work a computational model, based on the finite element method, was implemented to simulate the early age concrete behavior and, specially, the evaluation of the cracking risk. The finite element analysis encloses the computational modeling of the following phenomena: chemical, thermal, moisture diffusion and mechanical which occur at the first days after the concrete cast. The developed software results were compared with experimental values found in the literature, demonstrating an excellent approach for all the implemented analysis.

  • Moblie device based financial services are vulnerable to social engineering attacks because of the display screen of mobile devices. In other words, in the case of shoulder surfing, attackers can easily look over a user's shoulder and expose his/her password. To resolve this problem, a colour-based secure keyboard solution has been proposed. However, it is inconvenient for genuine users to verify their password using this method. Furthermore, password colours can be exposed because of fixed keyboard colours. Therefore, we propose a secure mobile authentication method to provide advanced functionality and strong privacy. Our authentication method is robust to social engineering attacks, especially keylogger and shoulder surfing attacks. According to the evaluation results, our method offers increased security and improved usability compared with existing methods.

  • Engineering changes are indispensable engineering and management activities for manufactures to develop competitive products and to maintain consistency of its product data. Analysis of engineering changes provides a core functionality to support decision makings for engineering change management. This study aims to develop a method for analysis of engineering changes based on On-Line Analytical Processing (OLAP), a proven database analysis technology that has been applied to various business areas. This approach automates data processing for engineering change analysis from product databases that follow an international standard for product data management (PDM), and enables analysts to analyze various aspects of engineering changes with its OLAP operations. The study consists of modeling a standard PDM database and a multidimensional data model for engineering change analysis, implementing the standard and multidimensional models with PDM and data cube systems and applying the implemented data cube to core functions of engineering change management, the evaluation and propagation of engineering changes.

  • The newly developed eight-directional collector was installed at five different locations in the coastal area after its functionality was verified through experiments. Based on the airborne chloride amount measured for one year, the distribution characteristics of airborne chlorides were examined by direction. In terms of direction, a large amount of airborne chlorides was collected, not only in the direction facing the coast but also in the opposite direction. The amount measured at effective three directions was 1.5 times that measured at non-effective three directions.
