Verilog-HDL-based modeling can be performed to confirm the fast operation characteristics after setting the design parameters of each block considering the stability of the system by performing linear phase-domain modeling on the phase-locked loop. This paper proposed Verilog-HDL modeling including DCO noise and DTC nonlinear characteristic. After completing the modeling, the time-domain transient simulation can be performed to check the feasibility and the functionality of the proposed PLL system, then the phase noise result from the system design based on the functional model can be verified comparing with the ideal phase noise graph. As a result of the comparison of simulation time (6 us), the Verilog-HDL-based modeling method (1.43 second) showed 484 times faster than the analog transistor level design (692 second) implemented by TSMC 0.18-㎛.
Various active microwave imaging techniques have been developed for cancer detection for past several decades. Both the microwave tomography and the UWB radar techniques, constituting functional microwave imaging systems, use the electrical property contrast between normal tissues and malignancies to detect the latter in an early development stage. Even though promising simulation results have been reported, the understanding of the functional microwave imaging diagnostics has been relied heavily on the complicated numerical results. We present a computationally efficient and physically instructive analytical electromagnetic wave channel models developed for functional microwave imaging system in order to detect especially the breast tumors as early as possible. The channel model covers the propagation factors that have been examined in the previous 2-D models, such as the radial spreading, path loss, partial reflection and transmission of the backscattered electromagnetic waves from the tumor cell. The effects of the system noise and the noise from the inhomogeneity of the tissue to the reconstruction algorithm are modeled as well. The characteristics of the reconstructed images of the tumor using the proposed model are compared with those from the confocal microwave imaging.

Many new functional materials have been studied for efficient production and storage of energy. Many new materials such as sodium-based and sulfide-based materials have been proposed for energy storage, but research on Li batteries is still dominant. Due to the influence of environmental concerns regarding nuclear energy, interest in and research on fusion power are steadily increasing. For the commercialization of nuclear fusion, a design standard based on a considerable level of physical analysis and modeling is proposed. Nevertheless, limitations of existing materials in nuclear fusion environments limit practical applications. Tritium propagation material for continuous fusion reaction is one of the core materials, and therefore research on this material is being carried out intermittently. The key material for Li-based energy storage and tritium generation is the functional material Li-M-O. In this review, a structural description of functional Li-M-O system materials and technical trends for its applications are introduced.
PURPOSES: The purpose of this study is to propose a new methodology for developing statistical collision models and to show the validation results of the methodology. METHODS: A new modeling method of introducing variables into the model one by one in a multiplicative form is suggested. A method for choosing explanatory variables to be introduced into the model is explained. A method for determining functional forms for each explanatory variable is introduced as well as a parameter estimating procedure. A model selection method is also dealt with. Finally, the validation results is provided to demonstrate the efficacy of the final models developed using the method suggested in this study. RESULTS: According to the results of the validation for the total and injury collisions, the predictive powers of the models developed using the method suggested in this study were better than those of generalized linear models for the same data. CONCLUSIONS: Using the methodology suggested in this study, we could develop better statistical collision models having better predictive powers. This was because the methodology enabled us to find the relationships between dependant variable and each explanatory variable individually and to find the functional forms for the relationships which can be more likely non-linear.
This study examines the structural relationships between service quality, satisfaction, and behavioral intentions in responsible tourism. In particular, the study focuses on moderating effects of age. Data were collected from 471 tourists from seven responsible tourism agencies. SPSS 20.0 and AMOS 18.0 were used for frequency, reliability, exploratory factor, confirmatory factor, and path analyses. The results of a exploratory factor analysis yield two dimensions of service quality (functional quality and technical quality). The results of structural equation modeling indicate that functional quality and technical quality had positive effects on satisfaction, which in turn had a positive effect on behavioral intentions. In addition, age moderated the relationships between service quality, satisfaction, and behavioral intentions such that functional quality had a positive effect on satisfaction in the group of tourists in their twenties and thirties and that functional quality and technical quality were important factors for tourists in their forties. The results are expected to help responsible tourism communities better manage service quality to increase tourist satisfaction.

Purpose: This study investigated how consumption values influence consumers' purchasing decisions regarding environmentally friendly products. Based on the Consumption Values Theory, six dimensions of consumption values were defined: functional value-quality, functional value-price, emotional value, social value, conditional value, and epistemic value. In particular, the current study analyzed the differential impact of the environmentally friendly consumption values between two consumer groups - users and nonusers. By doing so, more effective marketing strategies can be applied to the target groups. Research design, data, and methodology: The online survey was conducted through Macromill Embrain in Korea to collect data from users vs. nonusers of environmentally friendly products. There were 215 usable responses in the users sample and 225 responses in the nonusers sample. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was performed by using AMOS 18.0. Results: The results revealed that four dimensions of consumption values, i.e., functional value-price, emotional value, conditional value, and epistemic value, positively influenced the users, while functional value-price and epistemic value positively influenced purchase intention toward environmentally friendly products among the nonusers. Conclusions: These results have important implications for applying effective marketing strategies for target consumers. Theoretical and practical implications are also discussed.
Human cardiomyocytes (CMs) cease to proliferate and remain terminally differentiated thereafter, when humans reach the mid-20s. Thus, any damages sustained by myocardium tissue are irreversible, and they require medical interventions to regain functionality. To date, new surgical procedures and drugs have been developed, albeit with limited success, to treat various heart diseases including myocardial infarction. Hence, there is a pressing need to develop more effective treatment methods to address the increasing mortality rate of the heart diseases. Functional CMs are not only an important in vitro cellular tool to model various types of heart diseases for drug development, but they are also a promising therapeutic agent for cell therapy. However, the limited proliferative capacity entails difficulties in acquiring functional CMs in the scale that is required for pathological studies and cell therapy development. Stem cells, human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs) in particular, have been considered as an unlimited cellular source for providing functional CMs for various applications. Notable progress has already been made: the first clinical trials of hPSCs derived CMs (hPSC-CMs) for treating myocardial infarction was approved in 2015, and their potential use in disease modeling and drug discovery is being fully explored. This concise review gives an account of current development of differentiation, purification and maturation techniques for hPSC-CMs, and their application in cell therapy development and pharmaceutical industries will be discussed with the latest experimental evidence.
Objective: In this study, we used resting-state fMRI data to map differences in functional connectivity between a comprehensive set of 8 distinct cortical and subcortical brain regions in healthy controls and Internet addicts. We also investigated the relationship between resting state connectivity strength and the level of psychopathology (ex. score of internet addiction scale and score of Barratt impulsiveness scale). Background: There is a lot of evidence of relationship between Internet addiction and impaired inhibitory control. Clinical evidence suggests that Internet addicts have a high level of impulsivity as measured by behavioral task of response inhibition and a self report questionnaire. Method: 15 Internet addicts and 15 demographically similar non-addicts participated in the current resting-state fMRI experiment. For the connectivity analysis, regions of interests (ROIs) were defined based on the previous studies of addictions. Functional connectivity assessment for each subject was obtained by correlating time-series across the ROIs, resulting in $8{\times}8$ matrixs for each subject. Within-group, functional connectivity patterns were observed by entering the z maps of the ROIs of each subject into second-level one sample t test. Two sample t test was also performed to examine between group differences. Results: Between group, the analysis revealed that the connectivity in between the orbito frontal cortex and inferior parietal cortex, between orbito frontal cortex and putamen, between the orbito frontal cortex and anterior cingulate cortex, between the insula and anterior cingulate cortex, and between amydgala and insula was significantly stronger in control group than in the Internet addicts, while the connectivity in between the orbito frontal cortex and insula showed stronger negative correlation in the Internet addicts relative to control group (p < 0.001, uncorrected). No significant relationship between functional connectivity strength and current degree of Internet addiction and degree of impulsitivy was seen. Conclusion: This study found that Internet addicts had declined connectivity strength in the orbitofrontal cortex (OFC) and other regions (e.g., ACC, IPC, and insula) during resting-state. It may reflect deficits in the OFC function to process information from different area in the corticostriatal reward network. Application: The results might help to develop theoretical modeling of Internet addiction for Internet addiction discrimination.
In BIM environments for infrastructures, civil structures such as road, bridge and tunnel etc., created into 3D objects, integrated with their properties, securing BIM design productivity is very critical during 3D modeling. To solve this issue, configuring BIM libraries so that the users can utilize prefabricating in advance 3D objects that have been applying repeatedly during BIM design is essential so much. Current BIM libraries have made focused on Ready-Made for architectural facilities. However, establishing environment for delivering BIM library for civil facilities is very sparse. Accordingly, this study developed a web-based sharing system for delivering BIM library contents based on standardized drawing for civil area. To do this, we have analyzed core features and operation system of BIM library sharing system in domestic and overseas. Besides, functional requirements that are necessary for developing BIM library sharing system was derived, and through operation scenario configuration, the web-based system was developed according to the detailed mechanism. It is expected that this system can enhance BIM design productivity during library based modeling, and can be utilized as construction supporting tools that can help construction managers to make a design change.

Single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) have been emerging out of the efforts to research human diseases and ethnic disparities. A semantic network is needed for in-depth understanding of the impacts of SNPs, because phenotypes are modulated by complex networks, including biochemical and physiological pathways. We identified ethnicity-specific SNPs by eliminating overlapped SNPs from HapMap samples, and the ethnicity-specific SNPs were mapped to the UCSC RefGene lists. Ethnicity-specific genes were identified as follows: 22 genes in the USA (CEU) individuals, 25 genes in the Japanese (JPT) individuals, and 332 genes in the African (YRI) individuals. To analyze the biologically functional implications for ethnicity-specific SNPs, we focused on constructing a semantic network model. Entities for the network represented by "Gene," "Pathway," "Disease," "Chemical," "Drug," "ClinicalTrials," "SNP," and relationships between entity-entity were obtained through curation. Our semantic modeling for ethnicity-specific SNPs showed interesting results in the three categories, including three diseases ("AIDS-associated nephropathy," "Hypertension," and "Pelvic infection"), one drug ("Methylphenidate"), and five pathways ("Hemostasis," "Systemic lupus erythematosus," "Prostate cancer," "Hepatitis C virus," and "Rheumatoid arthritis"). We found ethnicity-specific genes using the semantic modeling, and the majority of our findings was consistent with the previous studies - that an understanding of genetic variability explained ethnicity-specific disparities.
