Numerical prediction of dynamic behavior of fully coupled saturated porous media is of great importance in many engineering problems. Specifically, static and dynamic response of soils - porous media with pores filled with fluid, such as air, water, etc. - can only be modeled properly using fully coupled approaches. Modeling and simulation of static and dynamic behavior of soils require significant Verification and Validation (V&V) procedures in order to build credibility and increase confidence in numerical results. By definition, Verification is essentially a mathematics issue and it provides evidence that the model is solved correctly, while Validation, being a physics issue, provides evidence that the right model is solved. This paper focuses on Verification procedure for fully coupled modeling and simulation of porous media. Therefore, a complete Solution Verification suite has been developed consisting of analytical solutions for both static and dynamic problems of porous media, in time domain. Verification for fully coupled modeling and simulation of porous media has been performed through comparison of the numerical solutions with the analytical ones. Modeling and simulation is based on the so called, u-p-U formulation. Of particular interest are numerical dispersion effects which determine the level of numerical accuracy. These effects are investigated in detail, in an effort to suggest a compromise between numerical error and computational cost.

The elasticity tensor for water may be employed to model the fully saturated porous material. Mostly water is assumed to be incompressible with a bulk modulus, however, the upper and lower bounds of off-diagonal components of the elasticity tensor of porous materials filled with water are violated when the bulk modulus is relatively high. In many cases, the generalized Hill inequality describes the general bounds of Voigt and Reuss for eigenvalues, but the bounds for the component of elasticity tensor are more realistic because the principal axis of eigenvalues of two phases, matrix and water, are not coincident. Thus in this paper, for anisotropic material containing pores filled with water, the bounds for the component of elasticity tensor are expressed by the rule of mixture and the upper and lower bounds of fully saturated porous materials are violated for low porosity and high bulk modulus of water.

A new technique wasdeveloped which obtains selectively the htick fully recessed oxidized porous silicon layer (OPSL) with good dielectric property. The porous silicon layer was ocnverted to thick fully recessed oxide (FRO) with 3-step (1${\mu}$m, 1.5${\mu}$m, 1.8${\mu}$m) by multi-step thermal oxidation (after 400$^{\circ}$C, 1 hour by dry oxidation, 700$^{\circ}$C, 1 hour and then 1100$^{\circ}$C, 1 hour by wet oxidation). The breakdwon field of the FRO was about 2.5MV/cm and the leakage current was several pA ~ 100 pA in the range of 0 of 90 pF. The progress of oxidation of a porous silicon layer was studied by examining the infrared abosrption spectra. The refractive index (1.51) of the fRO, which was measured by ellipsometer, was comparable to that of the thermally grown silicon dioxide (1.46). The etching rate (1600${\AA}$/min) of the FRO was also almost equal to that of the thermal oxide.
Implant prototypes with various porosities were fabricated by electro-discharge-sintering of atomized spherical Ti-6Al-4V powders. Single pulse of 0.75 to 2.0 kJ/0.7 g-powder, using 150, 300, and $450{\mu}F$ capacitors was applied to produce a fully porous and porous surfaced implant compact. The solid core formed in the center of the compact after discharge was composed of acicular ${\alpha}+{\beta}$ grains and porous layer consisted of particles connected in three dimensions by necks. The solid core and neck sizes increased with an increase in input energy and capacitance. On the other hand, pore volume decreased with increased capacitance and input energy due to the formation of solid core. Capacitance and input energy are the only controllable discharge parameters even though the heat generated during a discharge is the unique parameter that determines the porosity of compact. It is known that electro-discharge-sintering of spherical Ti-6Al-4V powders can efficiently produce fully-porous and porous surfaced Ti-6Al-4V implants with various porosities in a short time less then 400 isec by manipulating the discharging condition such as input energy and capacitance including powder size.

Modeling and simulation of mechanical response of infrastructure object, solids and structures, relies on the use of computational models to foretell the state of a physical system under conditions for which such computational model has not been validated. Verification and Validation (V&V) procedures are the primary means of assessing accuracy, building confidence and credibility in modeling and computational simulations of behavior of those infrastructure objects. Validation is the process of determining a degree to which a model is an accurate representation of the real world from the perspective of the intended uses of the model. It is mainly a physics issue and provides evidence that the correct model is solved (Oberkampf et al. 2002). Our primary interest is in modeling and simulating behavior of porous particulate media that is fully saturated with pore fluid, including cyclic mobility and liquefaction. Fully saturated soils undergoing dynamic shaking fall in this category. Verification modeling and simulation of fully saturated porous soils is addressed in more detail by (Tasiopoulou et al. 2014), and in this paper we address validation. A set of centrifuge experiments is used for this purpose. Discussion is provided assessing the effects of scaling laws on centrifuge experiments and their influence on the validation. Available validation test are reviewed in view of first and second order phenomena and their importance to validation. For example, dynamics behavior of the system, following the dynamic time, and dissipation of the pore fluid pressures, following diffusion time, are not happening in the same time scale and those discrepancies are discussed. Laboratory tests, performed on soil that is used in centrifuge experiments, were used to calibrate material models that are then used in a validation process. Number of physical and numerical examples are used for validation and to illustrate presented discussion. In particular, it is shown that for the most part, numerical prediction of behavior, using laboratory test data to calibrate soil material model, prior to centrifuge experiments, can be validated using scaled tests. There are, of course, discrepancies, sources of which are analyzed and discussed.
Purpose: Surface modification is important techniques in modern dental and orthopedic implants. This study was performed to try embedding of bioactive materials in porous Ti implants. Methods: Porous Ti implant samples were fabricated by sintering of spherical Ti powders in a high vacuum furnace. It's diameter and height were 4mm and 20mm. Embedding process was used to suction and vacuum chamber. Loading properties of porous Ti implants were evaluated by scanning electron microscope(SEM), confocal laser scanning microscope(CLSM), and UV-Vis-NIR spectrophotometer. Results: Internal pore structure was formed fully open pore. Average pore size and porosity were $10.253{\mu}m$ and 17.506%. Conclusion: Porous Ti implant was fabricated successfully by sintering method. Particles are necking strongly each other and others portions were vacancy. This porous structure can be embedded to bioactive materials. Therefore bioactive materials will be able to embedding to porous Ti implants. Bioactive materials embedding in the porous Ti implant will induced new bone faster.
In the present paper, the wave absorbing performance of the fully submerged horizontal porous plates has been investigated, numerically and experimentally. The submerged porous system is composed of multi-layered horizontal porous plates that are clamped at the vertical setwall, which are slightly inclined and placed vertically, in parallel, with spacing. The hydrodynamic interaction of incident waves with the rigid porous multi-layered plates was formulated within the context of linear wave-body interaction theory and Darcy's law. In order to validate the effectiveness of the present computing code, the numerical results were compared with the analytical and experimental results. It is found that triple horizontal porous plates with slight inclination, if properly tuned for wave energy dissipation against the standing waves in front of the vertical wall, can have high performances in reducing the reflected wave amplitudes against the incident waves over a wide range of wave frequency.
Porous silica particles are the most prevailing raw material for stationary phases of liquid chromatography. During a long period of time, various methodologies for production of porous silica particles have been proposed, such as crashing and sieving of xerogel, traditional dry or wet process preparation of conventional spherical particles, preparation of hierarchical mesoporous particles by template-mediated pore formation, repeated formation of a thin layer of porous silica upon nonporous silica core (core-shell particles), and formation of specific silica monolith followed by grinding and calcination. Recent developments and applications of useful porous silica particles will be covered in this review. Discussion on sub-$3{\mu}m$ silica particles including nonporous silica particles, carbon or metal oxide clad silica particles, and molecularly imprinted silica particles, will also be included. Next, the individual preparation methods and their feasibilities will be collectively and critically compared and evaluated, being followed by conclusive remarks and future perspectives.
The presence of a layer of vegetation which is relevant in river engineering or coastal engineering can modify the overall flow resistance, turbulent characteristics of flow. The patch of vegetation can be modelled and studied in a simple porous cylinder by previous researchers. Fully three dimensional Large Eddy Simulation is conducted in flow past a porous cylinder with a solid volume fraction (SVF) 0f 20%. The porous cylinder of diameter D contains 89 smaller cylinders which diameter is 0.048D in a regular staggered way. Reynolds number based on porous cylinder diameter D and the bulk velocity is 10,000. The large scale shedding is qualitatively similar to the one observed in the non-porous case (SVF=100%). The difference in the dynamics of the separated shear layer and the streamwise flow penetrating through the porous cylinder are compared with those in the non-porous cylinder. In particular, the wake billows form a larger distance from the back of the porous cylinder.

The physics of the plume-induced shock and separation particulary at a high plume to exit pressure ratio and supersonic speeds up to Mach 3.0 with aid without a passive control method, porous extension, were studied using computational techniques. Mass-averaged Navier-Stokes equations with the RNG k-$\varepsilon$ turbulence model were solved using a fully implicit finite volume scheme and a 4-stage Runge-Kutta method. The courol methodology for plume-afterbody interactions is to use a perforated wall attached at either the nozzle exit or the edge of the missile base. The Effect of porous wall length on plume interference is also investigated. The computational results show the main effect of the porous extension on plume-afterbody interactions is to in the plume from strongly underexpanding during a change in flight conditions. With control, a change in porous extension length has no significant effect on plume interference.
