Numerical methods to estimate behaviors of jointed rock mass can be roughly divided into two method : discontinuous model and continuum model. Generally, distinct element method (DEM) is applied in discontinuous model, and finite element method (FEM) or finite difference method (FDM) is utilized in continuum model. To predict a behavior of discontinuous model by DEM, it is essential to understand characteristics of joints developed in rock mass through field tests. However, results of field tests can not provide full information about rock mass because field tests is conducted in limited area. In this paper, discontinuous analysis by UDEC and continuous analysis by FLAC is utilized to estimate a behavior of a tunnel in jointed rock mass. For including discontinuous analysis in continuous analysis, joints in rock mass is considered by reducing rock mass properties obtained by RMR and decreasing shear strength of rock mass. By comparing and revising two analysis results, analysis results similar with practical behavior of a tunnel can be induced and appropriate support system is decided.
This paper presents the analysis results on the electrical output performance characteristics of a 746 W high temperature superconducting generator (HTSG). The HTS field winding is charged by non-contact excitation method, i.e., contactless superconducting field exciter (CSFE) which is originated by rotary flux pump based on permanent magnet. In this paper, the preliminary current charging test was carried out using a 70 A CSFE to evaluate the performance of field exciter and analyze its non-contact excitation characteristics for the full-scale HTS field winding of the 746 W HTSG. First, the various contactless current-charging tests were conducted using assembly with HTS field winding and CSFE. Then, in order to estimate the output power performance characteristics of the 746 W HTSG, finite element analysis was conducted based on field excitation information which is experimentally measured under various operating conditions. Finally, the electrical output characteristics in no-load and load models were simulated by two-dimensional transient solver in ANSYS electromagnetics 19.0 release.

The applicability of the field-consistency paradigm, which was originally employed for analysis of locking due to constrained energy having the second power of a strain, is extended to the constrained energy having a quadratic form of strain. For the extension, nearly-incompressible plane strain problem is considered by introducing the concept of reduced minimization. The field-consistent analysis of the plane strain problem leads to a clear and systematic understanding on the relation amongst constraints imposed on element, spurious constraint -free optimal points, and integration order used.
Full scale measurement on the structural dynamic characteristics and Vortex-induced Vibrations (VIV) of a long-span suspension bridge with a central span of 1650 m were conducted. Different Finite Element (FE) modeling principles for the separated twin-box girder were compared and evaluated with the field vibration test results, and the double-spine model was determined to be the best simulation model, but certain modification still needs to be made which will affect the basic modeling parameters and the dynamic response prediction values of corresponding wind tunnel tests. Based on the FE modal analysis results, small-scaled and large-scaled sectional model tests were both carried out to investigate the VIV responses, and probable Reynolds Number effects or scale effect on VIV responses were presented. Based on the observed VIV modes in the field measurement, the VIV results obtained from sectional model tests were converted into those of the three-dimensional (3D) full-scale bridge and subsequently compared with field measurement results. It is indicated that the large-scaled sectional model test can probably provide a reasonable and effective prediction on VIV response.
This paper presents a technique for electromagnetic field analysis on surge response due to Mid-span back-flashovers effects in lightning protection system of 500 kV EHV single circuit transmission tower by the neural networks method. These analyses are based on modeling lightning return stroke as well as on coupling the electromagnetic fields of the stroke channel to the line. The ground conductivity influences both the electric field as well as the coupling mechanism and hence the magnitude and wave shape of the induced voltage. The technique can be used to analyzed the corona voltage effect, the effective of stroke to the span tower, the surge impedance of transmission lines. The maximum voltage from flashovers effects in the lines. The model is compatible with general electromagnetic transients programs such as the ATP-EMTP. The simulation results show that this study analyses for time-domain with those produced by a cascade multi-section model, the surge impedance of a full-sized tower hit directly by a lightning stroke is discussed.

This paper describes the feasibility of compacting subgrade layer in thicker lifts than currently permitted as 20 cm. This project involved constructing and testing a full scale test section in highway. Soil stiffness in field was evaluated by a nondestructive testing method, called Geogage. Quality control tests and FE Analysis were also conducted. Typical dynamic compaction roller of 11ton weight is applied for full scale test and a Mohr-Coulomb model and Plane strain condition are used for FE Analysis. The results showed that compaction-induced stress and dissipated energy are mainly depend on depth of soil and it could be possible to increase thickness of a lift.

Full maximum-entropy mobility-spectrum analysis (FMEMSA) is the best algorithm among mobility spectrum analyses by which we can obtain a set of partial-conductivities associated with mobility values (mobility spectrum) by analyzing magnetic-field-dependent conductivity-tensors. However, it is restricted to a direct band-gap semiconductor and should be modified for materials with other band structures. We developed the modified version of FMEMSA which is appropriate for a material with a single anisotropic valley, or an indirect-band-gap semiconductor quantum-well with a single non-degenerate conduction-band valley e.g., (110)-oriented AlAs quantum wells with a single anisotropic valley. To demonstrate the reliability of the modified version, we applied it to several sets of synthetic measurement datasets. The results demonstrated that, unlike existing FMEMSA, the modified version could produce accurate mobility spectra of materials with a single anisotropic valley.

Remote-sensing optical payloads, especially hyperspectral imagers, have particular issues with stray light because they often encounter high-contrast target/background conditions, such as sun glint. While developing an optical payload, we usually apply several stray-light analysis methods, including forward and backward analyses, separately or in combination, to support lens design and optomechanical design. In addition, we often characterize the stray-light response over a full field to support calibration, or when developing an algorithm to correct stray-light errors. For this purpose, we usually use forward analysis across the entire field, but this requires a tremendous amount of computational time. In this paper, we propose a sequence of forward-backward-forward analyses to more effectively investigate the through-field response of stray light, utilizing the combined advantages of the individual methods. The application is an airborne hyperspectral imager for creating hyperspectral maps from 900 to 1700 nm in a 5-nm-continuous band. With the proposed method, we have investigated the through-field response of stray light to an effective accuracy of 0.1°, while reducing computation time to 1/17th of that for a conventional, forward-only stray-light analysis.

The field dependent characteristics of electron transport with GaAs impact ionization have been analyzed, using GaAa full band E-k relationship. The E-k relationship is derived from empirical pseudopotential method, using Fermi's golden rule and local form factor, and Brillouin zone is divided into tetrahedrons for calculating impact ionization rate, and tetrahedron method, in which integrates each tetrahedrons, is used. Monte Carlo simulation is used for analyzing anisotropy of impact ionization. A result of transient analysis for impact ionization has presented that anisotropy of impact ionization only arises during transient state and impact ionization is isotropic under steady state. Anisotropic characteristics of impact ionization for GaAs, which is presented in this paper, can be used in carrying out a transient analysis for GaAs devices.

The Acousto-Optic Tunable Filter (AOTF) is a high-speed full-field monochromator which generates two spectrally filtered light beams with ordinary and extraordinary polarization state. Thus, AOTF is widely used to build full-field spectral imaging system or spectral domain interferometer. However, AOTF has a big problem that the angle of diffracted light changes according to the scanning of wavelength, which makes image shift on CCD plane In this paper, we propose an analytic design of prism system to compensate the image shift. The detailed analysis of light paths in a prism and basic experimental results are presented to verify our proposed compensation method. The experimental results agree with simulation results based on suggested prism model and image shift is minimized at optimal condition. Also, it can be extended to compensate the image shift for ordinary and extraordinary polarized light simultaneously.
