자동차 배기가스 정화용 Pb-only 삼원촉매의 활성특성에 관한 연구 (Studies on the Activity Properties of Pd-only Three-Way Catalyst for the Purification of Automobile Exhaust Emissions)

  • The roles of ceria on three-way catalyst is to improve the noble metal dispersion and thermal stability of support ${\gamma}$-$Al_2O_3$. And, ceria has a oxygen storage capacity(OSC) under fuel rich/lean conditions to improve the operating windows of NOx, THC and CO conversion. However, ceria has weak thermal stability under high temperature due to the crystallite growth. So that, the OSC of ceria is decreased, and then the conversions of NOx, THC and CO is decreased. One way of enhancing the thermal stability and NOx, THC and CO conversion Pd-only catalyst is to improve as well as its thermal stability and oxygen storage capacity of the ceria. Especially, the appropriate mixing ratios of bulk and stabilized ceria are very important for designing principles of Pd-only three-way catalysts. In this paper, we discussed the thermal properties of stabilizedand unstabilized (bulk) ceria, and the oxygen storage capacity (OSC) of catalysts, and found the correlation between activity and the OSC of Pd-only catalysts with various different mixing ratios of bulk and stabilized ceria. Finally, we propose the design principles to improve the thermal stability of washcoated Pd-only catalysts.

고온 채널 내부 에지화염의 소염 한계 영역에서의 화염 안정화 및 구조에 관한 실험적 연구 (Experimental Study on the Edge Flame Stabilization and its Structure Nearby Quenching Limits in a High Temperature Channel)

  • Edge flames have been interested as a basic structure that is concerned to flame stabilization and re-ignition of non-premixed flames. The edge flame consists of a lean premixed flame, a rich premixed flame, and a diffusion flame. In order to investigate fundamental structures of the edge flames at the conditions near the flammability limits, edge flames were stabilized within a heated narrow channel. Highly diluted partially premixed methane was used, and the flow rates of air and the partially premixed mixture were controlled. Various flame behaviors, including a transition between ordinary edge flames and premixed flames, were observed. Flame stabilization characteristics were examined as well. All flame stabilization conditions in this study showed a similar trend: characteristic time scales were inversely proportional to the equivalence ratio defined at the burner inlet. Finally, an interesting flame structure having a weak diffusion branch enveloped by a closed premixed branch was found near the flammability limits even in a fuel-air mixing layer. This structure was named as a "flame-drop" and the importance of this structure was first suggested.

  • Noncatalytic partial oxidation of methane for producing synthesis gas was studied in a lab-scale experimental apparatus. Partial oxidation developed for high-temperature, fuel-rich combustion and it is exothermic process. but Steam reforming and Caron reforming is highly endothermic process to need much energy. Noncatalytic partial oxidation of methane is affected by temperature and equivalent ratio, so we studied effect about composition of synthesis gas at lab scale reactor. We used electronic heater to control the temperature of reactor. The quality of synthesis gas is improved and reduced heat value to require at Noncatalytic partial oxidation because the reacting temperature is lower at oxy condition.

Laser Raman Scattering을 이용한 가스 분무내 당량비 계측에 관한 연구 (Equivalence Ratio Measurements in Gas Spray Using Laser Raman Scattering)

  • Laser Raman scattering method has been applied to measure equivalence ratio of methane/air mixture in injected spray. We used high power KrF excimer laser$(\lambda=248nm)$ and a high gain ICCD camera to capture low intensity signal. Raman shifts and Raman scattering cross -sections of $H_2,\;O_2,\;N_2,\;CO_2,\;CH_4\;and\;C_3H_8$ are measured precisely. Our results show an excellent agreement with those of other groups. Mole fraction measurement of $O_2\;and\;N_2$ from air shows that $O_2:N_2=0.206:0.794$. We used gas injector which was operated at 1 bar. Methane is used as a fuel. Spray region is $10mm\times37mm$ and this region is divided into 80 points. In Raman signals are obtained and ensemble averaged for each point. 3-d and contour plot of distribution of equuivalence ratio is presented. Our measured results show that the equivalence ratio of methane/air mixture in methane-rich region is reasonable. However, more study is necessary for methane-lean region because background noise level is almost same as Raman intensity of methane.

난류강도가 수소 동축분류 난류 확산화염의 NOx 생성에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Turbulence Intensity on the NOx Formation of Hydrogen Coaxial Jet Turbulent Diffusion Flames)

  • Experimental investigations were conducted for two hydrogen-nitrogen coaxial jet diffusion flames. A flame was a conventional coaxial jet diffusion flame and the other was a coaxial jet diffusion flame of which ambient air-jet turbulence was intensified. In this study, firstly two kinds of NOx measuring system were campared by using different convertors, secondly the NOx formation characteristics were investigated in order to examine the effect of turbulence intensity. In this study it is known that stainless convertor has some problem in the converting process from NO$_2$to NO in fuel rich region but molybdenum convertor can detect the amount of NOx correctly. The increase of turbulence intensity reduces the thermal NOx less than a half in our experiment and this effect is conspicuous near the nozzle. The conversion rate from NO to NO$_2$and the portion of NO$_2$among NOx are increased with turbulence intensity. These NOx measurements will help to understand the influences of turbulence intensity on NOx formation.

정적 예혼합기 연소에 있어서 2영역 모델 및 2색법에 의한 연소온도 비교에 관한 연구 (A Study on Comparisons Between Combustion Temperatures Calculated by Two-Region Model and Measured by Two-Color Method in Premixed Constant-Volume Combustion)

  • A constant-volume combustion chamber is developed to measure the burnt gas temperature over the wide ranges of equivalence ratio from 1.5 to 2.7 and pressure from 0.1 to 2.7 and pressure from 0.1 to 6 MPa by two-color method. The combustion temperature is also calculated by the conventional two-region model. The premixed fuel rich propane-oxygen-inert gas mixtures under high pressures are simultaneously ignited by eight spark plugs located on the circumference of combustion chamber with 45 degree intervals. The eight converging flames compress the end gases to high pressures. The transmissiv-ity in the chamber center during the final stage of combustion at the highest pressure is measured by in situ laser extinction method. Comparisons are made with the combustion temperatures between two-color method and two-region model. It is found that the burnt gas temperature mea-sured by two-color method is higher than that calculated by two-region model because of being the negative temperature gradient on the calculation and the temperature distribution of light path-length on the measurement and the burnt gas temperature for the turbulent combustion is higher than that of the laminar combustion under the same conditions because the heat loss for turbulent combustion is lower due to the shorter combustion period.

액체로켓엔진용 가스발생기의 연소성능시험 (Combustion Performance Tests of Fuel-Rich Gas Generator for Liquid Rocket Engine at Design Point)

  • 본 논문에서는 액체로켓엔진에서 터보펌프의 160kW급 터빈을 구동하고, 액체산소와 케로신을 추진제로 사용하는 가스발생기의 설계점 연소성능시험 결과에 대해 논의하였다. 충돌형 F-O-F 인젝터, 물냉각 채널을 가진 연소실, torch ignitor, turbulence ring 그리고 측정 링을 갖는 가스발생기에 대해 기술하였고, 점화, 연소, 종료 등의 시험 cyclogram에 대해 언급하였다. 설계점에서의 연소시험 및 turbulence ring 장착여부, 연소실 길이 변화에 따른 연소시험의 결과들에 대해 기술하였다. 연소시험 결과 가스발생기는 설계점에서 안정된 작동성을 보여주었고, 연소압력 및 온도 등의 성능이 예측치에 근접하는 결과를 보여 주었다. Turbulence ring은 출구에서의 가스온도를 균일하게 분포시켜 효과적인 혼합 장치임을 보여 주었고, 4-6msec 정도에서의 잔류시간에서는 연소효율의 차이가 크지 않음을 알 수 있었다. 가스발생기 출구에서의 온도는 공급되는 추진제의 O/F ratio에 따라 매우 민감하게 반응함을 알 수 있었다.

Growth Response of Avena sativa in Amino-Acids-Rich Soils Converted from Phenol-Contaminated Soils by Corynebacterium glutamicum

  • The biodegradation of phenol in laboratory-contaminated soil was investigated using the Gram-positive soil bacterium Corynebacterium glutamicum. This study showed that the phenol degradation caused by C. glutamicum was greatly enhanced by the addition of 1% yeast extract. From the toxicity test using Daphnia magna, the soil did not exhibit any hazardous effects after the phenol was removed using C. glutamicum. Additionally, the treatment of the phenol-contaminated soils with C. glutamicum increased various soil amino acid compositions, such as glycine, threonine, isoleucine, alanine, valine, leucine, tyrosine, and phenylalanine. This phenomenon induced an increase in the seed germination rate and the root elongation of Avena sativa (oat). This probably reflects that increased soil amino acid composition due to C. glutamicum treatment strengthens the plant roots. Therefore, the phenol-contaminated soil was effectively converted through increased soil amino acid composition, and additionally, the phenol in the soil environment was biodegraded by C. glutamicum.

  • Automotive engines need strategies to satisfy with the emission regulations in terms of PM and NOx. HC-LNT (Hydrocarbon-Lean NOx Trap) with secondary injection system is considered as more practical technology in order to cope with emission regulations. The HC-LNT system, which is using diesel fuel itself as a reducing agent, absorbs NOx in lean exhaust gas condition and releases NOx in rich exhaust gas conditions. In this system, inappropriate amounts of reducing agent will slip through the LNT without the profits of conversion and cause additional emission problems. Therefore, the suitable amount of reducing agent should be supplied into the catalytic converter. In this research, engine emission test was conducted to optimize injection quantity at the various engine test conditions. Different exhaust layouts and catalyst shapes have been studied and extension unit which makes better uniformity of exhaust gas was used for HC-LNT system. From this results, the effect of secondary injection conditions on NOx conversion characteristics of HC-LNT was clarified.

평행판식 유수분리기에서 분리판실의 유동특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Flow Characteristics for the Plate Chamber in Type of Oily Parallel Plate Water Separator)

  • According to the regulation of IMO, oil discharge from ships is allowed under 15ppm only and an oil filtering equipment is essential. However, for large ships using heavy fuel oil of over S.G 0.98 and viscosity 380cSt and system oil, it has been in difficulty to process with existing filtering type of oily water separator. A parallel plate type oily water separator which is one of gravity type separators can be used as an assistant equipment for the oil filtering system to meet the present IMO standard of 15 ppm, because it is an efficient method in dealing with a large amount of rich oil with high specific gravity. This work is focused on the fundamental investigation of the performance of the plate type oily water separator by visualization method and PIV(Particle Image Velocimetry) measurement to acquire multi-point velocity data simultaneously. The experimental results showed that the space of the plates acts a significant role in separating process and it was found that an important point to minimize a vortex flow is to flow a large amount of fluid in space of the plates in order to promote the efficiency of separation.
