A numerical investigation has been carried out for the electrochemical reaction, mass and heat transfer characteristics of the Molten Carbonate Fuel Cell(MCFC) stack. The effects of cooling air channel and water gas shift reaction were taken into account. The current density distribution of electrodes, the molecular fractions of reactant gasses and three dimensional temperature distribution can be calculated and shown by several lines of equivalent values. The results have been compared with the existing ones, and reasonable agreement has been obtained. To examine the influence of changing parameters, such as the composition of reactant gases, the target average current density, the utilization of reactant gases, the cooling air inlet temperature and flow rates, the computer simulation has been done. The analysis method and computer program developed in this study will be greatly helpful to design and verify the optimum operating condition of MCFC stack.
Biofilm formation is inevitable in a bioelectrochemical system in which microorganisms act as a sole biocatalyst. Cathodic biofilm (CBF) works as a double-edged sword in the performance of the air-cathode microbial fuel cells (MFCs). Proton and oxygen crossover through the CBF are limited by the robust structure of extracellular polymeric substances, composition of available constituents and environmental condition from which the biofilm is formed. The MFC performance in terms of power, current and coulombic efficiency is influenced by the nature and origin of CBF. Development of CBF from different ecological environment while keeping the same anode inoculums, contributes additional charge transfer resistance to the total internal resistance, with increase in coulombic efficiency at the expense of power reduction. This study demonstrates that MFC operation conditions need to be optimized on the choice of initial inoculum medium that leads to the biofilm formation on the air cathode.
In this work, an experimental study of the gasification on wood was carried out in downdraft type fixed bed Gasifier attached with 10 kW duel fuel diesel engine. The main objective of the study was to use wood as the biomass fuel for downdraft Gasifier and to evaluate the operating parameter of gasifier unit to predict its performance in terms of gas yield and cold gas efficiency. The influence of different biomass on fuel consumption rate, gas yield and cold gas efficiency was studied. Composition of producer gas was also detected for measuring the lower heating value of producer gas to select the feed stock so that optimum performance in the existing gasifier unit can be achieved. Under the experimental conditions, Lower heating value, of producer gas, cold gas efficiency and gas yields, using wood as a feed stock, are $4.85MJ/m^3$, 46.57% and $0.519m^3/kg$.
A combined experimental and numerical study has been conducted to investigate the downstream interaction between simulated SNG-air premixed flames in fuel composition of 91% $CH_4$ + 6% $C_3H_8$ + 3% $H_2$. In this study, the effects of fuel molar concentration(lean-rich) and strain rate($a_g$) were major parameters. A main focus is to investigate flames behavior and chemical interaction at flames downstream. The numerical results were calculated by OPPDIF application. The reaction mechanism adopted was USC-II model including C3 reaction.

The Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition (HCCI) engine has advantage for reducing the NOx and P.M. simultaneously. Therefore, HCCI engine is receiving attention as a low emission diesel engine concept. This study was carried out to investigate the characteristics of combustion and exhaust emission for operating conditions in a direct injection type of HCCI engines such as supercharged and naturally aspirated using diesel fuel and additive. From the experimental result, we found that cool flame was always appeared and also it was difficult to control combustion characteristics by changing the injection timing in HCCI. In addition, at the lean air-fuel ratio and high speed range, it was observed that charging air pressure, additive or increasing intake air temperature is effective to increase combustion performance and reduce exhaust emission. We concluded that chemical reaction by the increasing intake air temperature or additive without physical improvement has limitation for reduction of exhaust emission.
The corrosion behavior of KOFA cladding which is a standard Zircaloy-4 manufactured by Westinghouse Specialty Metal Plant according to the Siemens/KWU's HCW (Highly Cold Worked) standard Zircaloy-4 specification was analyzed using the oxide measurement data of KOFA fuel irradiated in Kori-2 nuclear power plant. Analysis of the measured KOFA cladding oxidation showed that oxidation of KOFA cladding was lower than the design prediction based upon Siemens/KWU's HCW standard Zircaloy-4 cladding. Although the measured fuel rods have relatively low burnup and oxidation and the amount of the measured data are small, analysis of manufacturing and in-reactor operation conditions of KOFA cladding indicates that the differences in the manufacturing processes and chemical composition of the Siemens/KWU's HCW (Highly Cold Worked) standard Zircaloy-4 and KOFA cladding may have somewhat contributed to lower corrosion of KOFA cladding than the expected.
Environmental impact of aircraft emissions can be addressed in two ways. Air quality impact occurs during landings and takeoffs while in-flight impact during climbs and cruises influences climate change, ozone and UV-radiation. The aim of this paper is to investigate airports related local emissions and fuel consumption (FC). It gives flight path optimization model linked to a dispersion model as well as numerical methods. Operational factors are considered and the cost function integrates objectives taking into account FC and induced pollutant concentrations. We have compared pollutants emitted and their reduction during LTO cycles, optimized flight path and with analysis by Dopelheuer. Pollutants appearing from incomplete and complete combustion processes have been discussed. Because of calculation difficulties, no assessment has been made for the soot, $H_2O$ and $PM_{2.5}$. In addition, because of the low reliability of models quantifying pollutant emissions of the APU, an empirical evaluation has been done. This is based on Benson's fuel flow method. A new model, giving FC and predicting the in-flight emissions, has been developed. It fits with the Boeing FC model. We confirm that FC can be reduced by 3% for takeoffs and 27% for landings. This contributes to analyze the intelligent fuel gauge computing the in-flight fuel flow. Further research is needed to define the role of $NO_x$ which is emitted during the combustion process derived from the ambient air, not the fuel. Models are needed for analyzing the effects of fleet composition and engine combinations on emission factors and fuel flow assessment.

The objective of this study was to analyze the effect of mixed fuel composition and mass fraction on spray inner structure in evaporating transient spray under the variant ambient conditions. Spray structure and spatial distribution of liquid phase concentration were investigated using a thin laser sheet illumination technique on the three component mixed fuels. A pulsed Nd:YAG laser was used as a light source. The experiments were conducted in a constant volume vessel with optical access. Fuel was injected into the vessel with electronically controlled common rail injector. Used fuel contains i-octane($C_8H_{18}$), n-dodecane($C_{12}H_{26}$) and n-hexadecane($C_{16}H_{34}$) that were selected as low-, middle- and high-boiling point fuel, respectively. Experimental conditions are 42 MPa, 72 MPa and 112 MPa in injection pressure, $5\;kg/m^3$, $15kg/m^3$ and $30kg/m^3$ in ambient gas density, 300 K, 500 K, 600 K and 700 K in ambient gas temperature, 300 K and 368 K in fuel temperature and different fuel mass fraction. Experimental results indicated that the multi-component fuels made two phase region mixed vapor and liquid so that it would are helpful to improve combustion, for the fuels of high boiling point component could accelerate evaporation very much according as low boiling point fuel was added to high boiling point fuel.

To design the practical core-shell electrocatalysts, combination of core and shell materials is important to meet catalytic activity and durability target. In general, Pd is considered as a good core material due to its best activity caused by strain/ligand effect. Preparing Pd nanoparticles can be a starting point in fabricating core-shell type electrocatalysts, much simplified Pd preparing process is suggested by using carbon monoxide (CO) as a reducing agent and/or capping agent. The solvent composition and reaction temperature can control to nanosheet, tetrahedron, and sphere without using additional stabilizer. Among them, Pd nanosheet which has mainly (111) plane showed about 3 times higher electrocatalytic activity for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) to the spherical Pd nanoparticles. The enhanced ORR activity of Pd nanosheets can be attributed to the exposure of Pd (111) surface and the high electrochemical surface area. Therefore, we demonstrated that the shape of Pd nanomaterials is easily controlled via a facile reduction method using CO, and (111) plane-oriented Pd nanosheets can be a promising ORR catalysts and core material for polymer electrolyte fuel cells (PEFCs).
For the HCNG bus using fuel which is the mixture gas of hydrogen and natural gas, the fuel efficiency and $CO_2$ emission characteristics were analyzed based on the WHVC test results and compared with that of the CNG and diesel buses. $CO_2$ emission characteristics were also analyzed by contribution effects such as carbon emission factor and fuel consumption. As a result, the fuel economy of HCNG bus was evaluated to be 11.5% improvement compared to CNG bus, and it was also showed equivalent to diesel bus. In addition, the $CO_2$ emission of HCNG bus was reduced 20.4% and 34.5% compared to CNG bus and diesel bus respectively. It was concluded that the $CO_2$ emission characteristics were influenced by the carbon emission factor depending on fuel composition and the fuel consumption according to the engine performance.
