  • The fuel system of a vehicle is a very important compotent, as it provides the firing resources to the combustion chamber of the engine. However, improper operation of the system can generate bad condition or start-off during engine revolution. This study analyzed several examples of failure that had originated in the field. In the first example, the driver operated a vehicle containing both gasoline and LPG in the fuel tank, but the gasoline fuel remained unused for a few months. Therefore the fuel pump was clogged because of gasoline congelation. The second example, dealt with fuel leakage that occurred from the slightly torn O-ring connecting the fuel lines. The third example, pertained to engine damage and power-down owing to the usage of proor-quality fuel and ingredient. Therefore, it is necessary to take adequate measures to prevent the failure of the fuel system of vehicle.

  • This study investigates the validity of applying new carbon nanotube (CNT, Carbon Nano Tube) surface heaters, which are applied in combination with various products, to the vessel's materials, and proposes the commercializable products accordingly. In order to actually apply a CNT surface heating system technology to the ship's equipment for the first time in Korea, we carried out the interview of experts in the technology field and the due diligence of the shipyard, and presented the technology road map for the selected three items. Finally, for "Heating System of Ship Fuel Tank" with the highest commercialization potential, we proposed a conceptual diagram to enable the final development of the product through the product analysis.

  • A lightning strike to the aircraft seriously affects the aircraft and its components in various ways. As one of the most critical threats to the flight safety of an aircraft, fuel vapour ignition by lightning can occur through various means, notably through hot spot formation on the fuel tank skins. In this study, a coupled thermal-electrical approach using the commercial software ABAQUS is used to study the effects of a lightning strike on aircraft fuel tanks. This approach assumes that the electrical conductivity of a material depends on temperature, and that a temperature rise in a material due to Joule heat generation depends on electrical current. The inter-dependence of thermal and electrical properties-the thermal-electrical coupling-is analyzed by a coupled thermal-electrical analysis module. The analysis elucidates the effects of different material properties and thicknesses of tank skins and identifies the worst case of lightning zones.

  • This paper shows the Development of In-tank pressure regulator and Solenoid Valve used in FCV(Fuel Cell Vehicle). We have developed new type of Regulator and Solenoid through analysis of the structure and characteristics of component of FCS(Fuel Cell System) from the advanced technology. Now it is possible to localize the component by making use of the development of Regulator and Solenoid made by us. Regulator and Solenoid is a equipment to control hydrogen pressure supplied into a stack. Therefore, outlet pressure, a flow of fluid and temperature are important parameters according to a inlet pressure. And leak test, endurance test and burst test should be done to guarantee the performance and safety of Regulator and Solenoid used in the fuel of high pressure. Also, Hydrogen friendly materials are applied to inner parts of the Regulator, Solenoid and weight reduction is done to cost saving in part not related to performance. As a result, we have proven the good performance and reliability in endurance of Regulator, Solenoid and will make an development in performance as well as durability to ensure industrialization.

  • This paper describes the design and integration of the wind- fuel cell hybrid system. The hybrid system components included a wind turbine, an electrolyzer (for generation of H2), a PEMFC (Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell), storage system and BOP (Balance of Plant) system. The energy input is entirely provided by a wind turbine. A DC-DC converter controls the power input to the electrolyzer, which produces hydrogen and oxygen form water. The hydrogen used the fuel for the PEMFC. The hydrogen is compressed and stored in high pressure tank by hydrogen gas booster system.

  • An adsorption chiller is connected to the fuel processing/fuel cell system to increase the energy efficiency of the system. Since, the minimum temperature of $70^{\circ}C$ is needed to operate the adsorption chiller, HT-PEMFC is used as a heating source and $80^{\circ}C$ hot water in the water tank at the system is supplied to the chiller. Experimentally measured COP of the adsorption chiller was between 0.4-0.5 and the total calcuated efficiency of the connected system was between 60% and 70% comparing to 47% without adsorption chilling system.

  • There are many attempts to use a fuel cell system as a residential power generation system. The purpose of this study is to investigate the optimal design of a water tank for a hot water system when the fuel cell co-generation system is combined with a domestic hot water supply system. The demands of hot water supply per month per home are investigated in Busan for a year. It showed somewhat large differences between the actual demand and the designed demand of hot water, but the actual capacity of hourly averaged hot water demands is analyzed as $60{\ell}/h$ in this study based on the actual demand. The experiments are performed in the various inlet and outlet locations of nozzles, and the hot water consumption rates. The experimental results are showed that the optimal capacity of the water tank is $200{\ell}$ when the thermal efficiency, the storing capacity of hot water and the space for installation are considered.

  • In this study, for conducting a static load test of an external fuel tank used for an aircraft, the flight load acting on the external fuel tank was converted to the test load and the suitability of the converted test loads was confirmed. In order to calculate the test load from the flight load, the external fuel tank was divided into several sections. Shear load, moment by unit shear load, and unit moment were calculated for each section. Test loads for each section were then calculated by computing the shear load, the moment of each section, and flight load condition. In actual static load tests, it might not be possible to impose the test load in the calculated position due to physical constraints. Therefore, after determining positions in which the load could be imposed in the actual test, the test load calculated for each section was redistributed to selected positions. Finally, a test load plan was established by applying a whiffle tree to enhance the efficiency of the test performance while making it easier to operate the actuator. The reliability of the test load plan was verified by comparing it with flight load conditions.

  • Aircraft pylon connects the engine or external stores to the main wing, and transfers the load acting on the pylon to the main structure of the aircraft. In particular, it should perform the function of separating the external store mounted on the pylon in case of emergency or mission performance. At this time, if the separation of the external store is not performed properly due to peripheral air flow or functional problems during the separation process of the external store, it may seriously impact the survivability of the aircraft. For this reason, to apply an external attachment to an aircraft, it is necessary to prove the stability of the external attachment in the separation situation in advance. In this paper, we present the result of the ground separation test performed to confirm that the external fuel tank, which is an external attachment, can be safely separated from the pylon. As a result of the test, the separation movement of the external fuel tank was measured with a high-speed camera, and the stability of the separation of the external fuel tank from the pylon were confirmed through the ground separation test. Additionally, the test result provides basic data for the stability evaluation of the separation of external attachments in actual aircraft.
