The Spatial Organization of Gyeongbok Palace and The Six Ministries A venue in the Early Joseon Dynasty - The Ceremony at the Main Gate and its Meaning - (조선초기 경복궁의 공간구조성과 6조대로 - 광화문 앞의 행사와 그 의미 -)

  • The Gyeongbok Palace was completed during the reign of King Taejo and King Sejong in the early Joseon Dynasty. The most remarkable spacious feature of the palace is that it has an inner palace wall without an outer palace wall. The absence of the outer palace wall had its origin in the palace of the late Goryeo Dynasty which did not provide the outer palace wall. Gwanghwamoon was the main gate of the palace, and the office buildings of the Six Ministries were arranged on the right side in front of the main gate. A wide road called Six Ministries Avenue was made between the builidings. The avenue was completed during the reign of the third king of Joseon, Taejong, and it was assumed that this arrangement was influenced by the government office arrangements of Nanjing, the early capital city of the Ming Dynasty. Gwanghwamoon held national rituals as well as the civic and military state examinations nations in front of the gate. The avenue was decorated with flowers and silks when kings and the royal families, or Chinese envoys enter the gate, and the civilians watched the parade, Because there was no outer palace wall, all the events held at Gwanghwamoon and the Six Ministries Avenue ware opened to the public, it was the unique feature of Gyeongbok Palace that the palaces of Goryeo dynasty and China did not have.

  • Currently Korean government is rushing the new electronic government system introduced as 'platform e-government' with big data and cloud computing technologies and systems, ultimately intending to provide the public institution services customized from the integrated counter or window for the heterogeneous resident services. In this regard, this study suggested how to design the new metadata information system in which mutual integration of information systems can take place, where heterogeneous services can be shared efficiently at the application and data unit, as a separate application that can provide a single one- stop service for residents' petition at the integrated level in the back-office based on the public data in possession of each of government ministries and related organizations. If this proposed system is implemented, the achievement of customized public service can be advanced one step forward in processing the petitions of the residents by organically connected link between 'Demand Chain' and 'Supply Chain' in the integrated window. In other words, it could be made possible through the unification of both the 'Supply Chain' performed in the office space of the officials at the back-office level and the 'Demand Chain' performed in the living space of the residents at the front-office level.

  • Surrounding noise often affects the performance of speech recognition system when it is used in office or home. Especially situation is more serious when colored and nonstational noise such as an sound from television or other audio equipment is introduced. The authors proposed a voice control system for television set using an adaptive noise canceler, and it works well even is sound of television set has comparable level of speech. In this paper, a new front-end of speech recognition is introduced for the voice control system. This font-end utilizes a simplified masking model to reduce the effect of residual noise. According to experimental results, 90% correct recognition is achieved even if the level of television sound is almost 15dB higher than one of speech.

Leadership Styles and Customer Loyalty: A Lesson from Emerging Southeast Asia's Airlines Industry

  • This study provides the empirical testing to test the influences of contemporary leadership styles (i.e., transactional and transformational) on job satisfaction and customer satisfaction as the mediating variable between job satisfaction and customer loyalty. The approach utilized in this study was a quantitative research design using a survey model. The participants of this study were recruited from 160 front-liners in the airline's industry in Indonesia. This study employed 160 front liners (flight attendants, reservation/ticketing, and check-in-counter officers) who worked in Branch Office/General Sales Agent of Indonesian commercial airlines. The studied airlines serve domestic routes based at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. Furthermore, the data were examined the four developed hypotheses by using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The primary results are: First, in the context of job satisfaction, both leadership styles (i.e., transactional and transformational) have similar influences; Second, job satisfaction affects customer satisfaction positively and significant, Third, customer loyalty is driven by passengers' satisfaction when they are utilizing the airline services. The findings imply that the working-role encouragement is essential to maximize the productivity of front-liners to serve their customer well. This research supports on developing the general knowledge based on leadership styles in the context of the airline's industry in managing the human resources strategically.

  • This study deals with a Logistics Information System(LIS) in recording industry. Many companies developed a LIS to minimize logistics cost and improve customer services. However, due to the diversity of distribution structure and the complexity of logistics process, developing an LIS in recording industry is complicated. This paper analyses the current situation in domestic recording industry and presents a framework of LIS. This system is composed of the front office related to the logistics processes and the back office related to the rest of the processes. This system can be used to develop an LIS in logistics industry. Some examples are given and discussed to validate the proposed LIS.

  • Mekuro-Kazoen BLDG. is a complex of office, hotel, and banquet halls, builted in 1991, Tokyo, Japan. This building suggest us various issues about the representation of traditionality in current architecture. We can find the possibility of representation of traditionality in large complex, in past, rarely applicated. Even in Japan, such trial in official building as New Office Building of Tokyo in Sinzuku shows a application only in the elevation plan. In Mekuro-Kazoen BLDG, the applications of traditionality are found not only in external appearance, but also in interior design. And the traditional Japanese gardens in front of building and in atrium enrich the traditionality And the modenity and traditionality in this building are represented simultaneously not deteriorating each other. The issue of representation of traditionality in architecture should be succeed not only in now but also in the future. The method of application need to be studied and improved. The fields of application also should be extended such as large complex buildings and future-oriented buildings.

  • This study examined the formal types and public space of Mies van der Rohe's office designs in Germany. The characteristics of the formal types, the relationship between public space and formal types, and the composition of public space were analyzed by hierarchy with perspective drawings and plans. The conclusions were as follows. Mies used the formal types, such as U shape and I shape in his early days. Later, he adopted the curved shape and tried to fragment the forms by combining the curved shape with an I shape. Mies designed the entry space in front of the simple formal types. The curved shape was used to create various hierarchical courtyards and rear gardens. The results suggest that Mies developed his own ideas on the formal types and public space utilizing a variety of methods.

Site Layout of ChungChong-Do Chonui-hyon Government Office in the Late Chosen Dynasty (조선후기(朝鮮後期) 충청도(忠淸道) 전의현(全義縣) 관아건축(官衙建築)의 배치구성(配置構成)에 관한 연구(硏究))

  • This study is to analyze site layout traditional government office building focused on Chonui-hyon(全義縣) in Chungchong province with Chungchong-do regional maps(忠淸道地方地圖) and Eupjis(邑誌, topography) being compiled in the late Chosun dynasty. The conclusion of analysis can be summarized as follows; 1. Chonui-hyon(全義縣) in Chosun dynasty is gone with a planning principle of the capital city(Han-Seong, 漢城) with disposing Sa-Ji-Dan(社稷壇) and Gaek-Sa(客舍), which are placed to the left and right of Eupchi(邑治), and it is followed in the wake of the spatial structure of Chosun dynasty palace with disposing Dong-Heon(東軒) in front, Nae-A(內衙) at the back of it, or from side to side, also by the Dong-Heon of the center, with organizing each facility around it. 2. Dong-Heon and Gaek-Sa of Chonui-hyon is passed through three step gate, Mun-Ru(門樓), Woi-Sammun(外三門), Nae-Sammun(內三門), from Hong-Salmon(紅門), and are shown hierarchy by haying been placed at the end of approach axis. 3. Dong-Heon can be disposed by Feng-Shui(風水) which have influence on the southeast direction with Jin-San(鎭山) and An-Dae(案對), on the other hand, Gaek-Sa can be disposed by symbolic of the authority of a king. 4. Site layout by function of provincial government office is provided into four ferrite, Dong-Heon, Gaek-Sa, Nae-A, practical business territory, and eve territory is organized by official institution on a social position to radiation, by the compositive axis to be made Woi-Sammun Nae-Sammun Dong-Heon Nae-A 5. Approach process of Chnui-hyon government office is three door system similar to Kam-Young(監營) in a different way two door system in most provincial government office, also approach axis is formed by bending.

  • The purpose of this study is to understand the cognitive power from user who have used hotel management information system and to search contribution level for hotel management. The survey results are : There are different cognitions, between PKG and developed user system, short term employee and long term employee, reservation part and front office part. Specially IT service management parts(mostly outsourcing) have low degree cognition, because of lated supporting and being short of IT service management system. Hotel information system construction gives us to be easy management operating and to be fast management but Hotel information system has to lead value creation, to support decision making, to present advavced management for hotel.
