To assess the status of safety accidents, authors reviewed and analysed the records of safety accidents of a welding material manufacturing factory at Pohang city from January 1989 to December 1993. The results are; 1. The total incidence of safety accidents was 295 spells for five years. 2. Average age of workers with accident was 35.7 years. Average duration of employment was 6.2 years and the duration of employment increased as the year increased. 3. There was no statistical significance on season, month, weekday and time by year in the incidence of safety accidents. The most frequent part of body injured was upper extremities and the most frequent type of injury was abrasion. 4. Mean admission rate of safety accidents was 12.6% and the ratio of treated spells as occupational injury was 7.8%. 5. The most frequent cause of injury was worker's mistake and the most frequent action for the prevention of further accidents was safety education. 6. The incidence rate of safety accidents on 1993 was 116.2 spells per 1,000 persons. Above results suggest that to prevent safety accidents, safety education should be done continuously, the environmental and human factors were controlled and more exact reporting system of safety accidents was needed.
Background: Early detection remains the cornerstone of breast cancer control in terms of outcome and survival. Thus far the only breast cancer screening method proven effective is mammography. The awareness of female health care workers (HCW) about breast cancer prevention is of vital importance, as their beliefs and behavior may have a major impact on other women. This study was designed to assess mammography screening uptake among female healthcare workers at primary healthcare centers, and to identify the primary motivators and barriers that affect uptake results. Materials and Methods: A cross sectional study design was used to assess mammography screening by 299 female healthcare workers who completed a self-administered questionnaire that assessed demographics, screening uptake, motivators and barriers. Results: The mean age was 46 years (within age of risk). The majority (95.1%) demonstrated adequate knowledge about breast cancer and mammography screening and 50% of the participants reported having at least one mammogram; however only 21% of them had regularly scheduled mammograms. The most frequent reported motivator was the perceived benefit that early detection of breast cancer is important for its management (89.6%), followed by the belief that mammography can detect breast cancer before its symptoms appear (84.4%). On the other hand, the most frequent barrier reported was being busy (46.7%), followed by the lack of perceived susceptibility (41.5%). Conclusions: Mammography screening was found to be sub-optimal in a population of HCW's with 50 % stating that they received a mammogram at least once, and a minority reported regular screening. There is a pressing need for educational programs aimed at removing the barriers that limit compliance with recommendations for mammography screening, and to emphasize the importance of early detection in breast cancer treatment. Ensuring the availability and accessibility of screening services, particularly for healthcare workers within their work settings are other important factors that would improve the acceptance and compliance for mammography screening programs.
The manufacturing industry is the one with the most frequent industrial disasters, and it is important to study the safety climate recognized by workers in the industry in order to actively prevent industrial accidents. However, little research has been performed on the safety climate in workplaces felt by the workers in the manufacturing industry. The purpose of this study is to identify the factors affecting work environment safeness based on practical analysis via survey, and to establish the relation between safety performance factors and safeness of work environment. The survey was performed for workers in the manufacturing industry(n=228), and structural equations model analysis by using the AMOS 7.0 was performed in order to identify the fit of the research model and the causation among factors. According to the results of the analysis, the reliability and the model fit were appropriate for interpretation, and safety participation was shown to affect safeness of work environment more than safety compliance. The results of this study may serve as the reference for taking a measure to improve the level of safeness of the work environment felt by workers in the manufacturing industry.
Purpose: This study was to analyze the factors that affect the service relationship of long term care workers for the elderly and to provide basic resource for the successful connection of long term care services. Methods: 259 subjects who were engaged in long term care units completed a self-administered questionnaire that measured the extent of service linkage among one another. The Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ score determined the internal consistency of the acquired data and the discriminated validity was estimated by Pearson's correlation coefficient. Multiple regression analysis was conducted to investigate the influence of the known factors on the service linkage. Results: Acceptance and participation negatively influenced on the service linkage. Reliance, comprehension, recognition on service, and frequent contact with others positively activated the service linkage of long term care workers. Conclusion: The establishments of systemic training courses providing education that emphasizes reliability and recognizes other services, including work environment to contact easily are needed to improve the service-linkage of long-term care workers for the elderly.

Frequent accidents occur when workers at construction sites leave the safety zone, and particularly in the past 5 years, 9 fatal accidents occurred at the Korea Railroad Corporation due to train accidents on other tracks during track work. With the Severe Accident Punishment Act taking effect in January 2022, it is a priority to secure a safe work environment for workers at industrial (construction) sites. Therefore, there is a need to manage workers' departure from the safety zone (construction zone) and to facilitate communication within the construction zone. In this study, a mobile edge computing CCTV system is proposed that uses geofencing to determine whether workers are working in the danger zone, which can judge and respond in real-time to the ever-changing field environment. The proposed system is mobile and flexible, rather than server-based fixed CCTV. However, since it is designed mainly based on images, it has limitations in recognition rate depending on the environment such as distance, viewing angle, and illumination. As a way to compensate for this, it is required to develop more reliable equipment by combining technologies such as LiDAR and Radar.
This study was to investigate the social workers' psycho·social experiences and roles during the end-of-life care process in elderly long-term care facilities. As a result of data analysis through in-depth interviews, social workers experienced great exhaustion and burnout due to frequent death experiences during the end-of-life care process, and expressed regret for not being able to provide better service for the deceased and longing for loved ones. And in the event of a sudden death, social workers would undergo criticism and complaints. The main roles of social workers during end-of-life care were to contact and communicate with family members when signs of death appeared and support them after the death. The necessity of standardized manuals and education for end-of-life care, a recharging program and support group to prevent burnout of social workers, and a legal safety net for emergency preparedness and emergency measures were suggested. The necessity of death preparation education, hospice care, and advance medical directive was also emphasized for the dignified death of the elderly.

Background: As social distancing persists and interest in work-life balance grows, more companies are adopting flexible work policies. While there have been studies on sleep disorders associated with different types of work, such as shift work, research exploring the relationship between flexible work schedules and sleep disorders is still limited, particularly among Korean workers. Methods: We performed a secondary analysis of the 6th Korean Working Conditions Survey, focusing on 31,243 paid workers out of a total of 50,538 participants. We defined flexible workers as those who set their own working hours. Sleep disorders were divided into three categories: 'difficulty falling asleep,' 'frequent waking during sleep,' and 'waking up feeling exhausted and fatigued.' Using scores derived from three specific symptoms, the Minimal Insomnia Symptoms Scale (MISS) was calculated to assess the prevalence of insomnia. We used chi-square tests to analyze demographic and job-related differences. A multivariate logistic regression analysis was employed to identify any relationship between flexible work schedules and sleep disorders. Results: Significant differences were found between flexible and non-flexible workers regarding age, income level, education level, and job type. Flexible workers reported sleep-related symptoms significantly more often. The odds ratio for insomnia was 1.40 (95% CI 1.21-1.61). For males, the odds ratio was 1.68 (1.36-2.08). Conclusion: This study establishes a correlation between flexible work schedules and sleep disorders among Korean salaried workers. Potential causes could include changes in circadian rhythm, increased work demands, and extended working hours. To precisely determine causality and associated diseases, further research is required.

Purpose: To find out the relationship between the shift work, and disrupted sleep and consequent fatigue symptoms. Methods: The questionnaires were given to 345 nurses of 4 hospitals with over 400 beds in Daejeon. Results: The shift workers showed worse subjective quality of sleep than the daytime workers, and had significantly higher frequency of "cannot get to sleep within 30 minutes", "wake up in the middle of the night" and "wake up in the early morning". The shift workers had significantly higher scores of subjective symptoms of fatigue than the daytime workers, and the fatigue was found to be the mental type. The subjective symptoms of fatigue scores were significantly higher in the group who had "cannot get to sleep within 30 minutes", "wake up in the middle of the night" and "wake up in the early morning". Conclusion: The study results indicated that the shift workers had the higher level of subjective symptoms of physical fatigue as well as the worse quality of sleep than the daytime workers. It is speculated that the factors attributable to the poor quality of sleep or sleep induction disorders of nurses of hospitals could be due in major part to adaptational difficulties resulting from frequent night shifts.
Background: Cervical cancer is one of the ten most frequent cancers in Turkey. We here examined knowledge about cervical cancer in relation to Papanicolaou (Pap) testing among female primary health care workers in Hatay, a city is located in the south of Turkey. Materials and Methods: The study was completed on 261 women healthcare workers who were or had been sexually active and who accepted to participate to the study. The participants gave verbal informed consent and thereafter questionnaires prepared by the investigators were administered by personal interview. Results: Only 30.3% (n=79) of the participants regularly had a gynecologic examination. While 87.4% (n=228) of the participants reported that they had already heard about the Pap smear test, only 45.2% (n=118) had undergone this test. It was determined that had undergone an average of $1.66{\pm}0.89$ times (1-4) within the last five years. Some 56.0% (n=117) of the participants were well informed about the Pap smear test (p<0,001) and 81.1% (n=63) of the participants who regularly had gynecological examinations (p<0,001) had this test. Conclusions: For the early diagnosis of the cervical cancer, regularly having a Pap smear test is crucial. Healthcare workers should also demonstrate sensitivity about this issue. We think that the importance of the issue should be re-highlighted by organizing in-service training for female primary healthcare workers. Studies are warranted to determine the psychosociological factors that cause individuals to not have the test.
The goal of this study was to determine whether food industry workers are exposed to musculoskeletal loads due to the work time, frequency, awkward postures and inappropriate workspace design. Three catering workers were evaluated based on job analysis and posture analysis. The results showed that the four most time-consuming tasks were arranging(17%), cooking(16%), handling before cooking(15%) and cutting(15%), and the four most frequent tasks were arranging(21%), cooking(18%), handling after cooking(16%) and handling before cooking(13%). The most common posture was a standing posture(73%) with neutral back(73%), and bent head(50%), left lower arm(71%), right lower arm(78%) and right hand(60%). The comparative analysis of subtasks for the risk levels of musculoskeletal disorders was conducted using the work time, frequency and cumulative time of the postures. The 'displaying' and 'handling after cooking' showed higher risk levels than other subtasks. In addition, the height and length of the tables were evaluated to be inadequate for the workers. It can be concluded that the working environments for catering workers of restaurants should be improved due to the high cumulative time of awkward postures of upper extremities.
