L2 Proficiency Effect on the Acoustic Cue-Weighting Pattern by Korean L2 Learners of English: Production and Perception of English Stops

  • This study explored how Korean L2 learners of English utilize multiple acoustic cues (VOT and F0) in perceiving and producing the English alveolar stop with a voicing contrast. Thirty-four 18-year-old high-school students participated in the study. Their English proficiency level was classified as either 'high' (HEP) or 'low' (LEP) according to high-school English level standardization. Thirty different synthesized syllables were presented in audio stimuli by combining a 6-step VOTs and a 5-step F0s. The listeners judged how close the audio stimulus was to /t/ or /d/ in L2 using a visual analogue scale. The L2 /d/ and /t/ productions collected from the 22 learners (12 HEP, 10 LEP) were acoustically analyzed by measuring VOT and F0 at the vowel onset. Results showed that LEP listeners attended to the F0 in the stimuli more sensitively than HEP listeners, suggesting that HEP listeners could inhibit less important acoustic dimensions better than LEP listeners in their L2 perception. The L2 production patterns also exhibited a group-difference between HEP and LEP in that HEP speakers utilized their VOT dimension (primary cue in L2) more effectively than LEP speakers. Taken together, the study showed that the relative cue-weighting strategies in L2 perception and production are closely related to the learner's L2 proficiency level in that more proficient learners had a better control of inhibiting and enhancing the relevant acoustic parameters.

  • Ubiquitous location based services, offer helpful services anytime and anywhere by using real-time location information of objects based on ubiquitous network. Particularly, autonomous mobile robots can be a solution for various applications related to ubiquitous location based services, e.g. in hospitals, for cleaning, at airports or railway stations. However, a meaningful and still unsolved problem for most applications is to develop a robust and cheap positioning system. A typical example of position measurements is dead reckoning that is well known for providing a good short-term accuracy, being inexpensive and allowing very high sampling rates. However, the measurement always has some accumulated errors because the fundamental idea of dead reckoning is the integration of incremental motion information over time. The other hand, a localization system using RFID offers absolute position of robots regardless of elapsed time. We construct an absolute positioning system based on RFID and investigate how localization technique can be enhanced by RFID through experiment to measure the location of a mobile robot. Tags are placed on the floor at 5cm intervals in the shape of square in an arbitrary space and the accuracy of position measurement is investigated . To reduce the error and the variation of error, a weighting function based on Gaussian function is used. Different weighting values are applied to position data of tags since weighting values follow Gaussian function.

도로교통소음의 주파수에 따른 불쾌도 민감도 연구 (Study of the Annoyance Sensitivity for the Frequency Band of Road Traffic Noise)

  • In this study, the sensitivity of annoyance was investigated by the subjective jury test for the variations of the frequency components along with various sound pressure levels of sixteen environmental noise sources. Annoyance was, also, evaluated for the road traffic noises. Sound pressure levels were $54{\sim}84\;dB$ which individually divided frequency components with eight bands of equally three bark bands. The results show that vehicle traffic noise is recognized as the most serious environment noise source. The sensitivity of human perception of annoyance in frequency bands is quite different from A-weighting curve. The annoyance found out to be more sensitive in high frequency region and reached its maximum in 3.4 kHz.

차량 출발 시 클러치에서의 고착-미끄럼 진동현상에 관한 실험적 (An Experimental Study on the Stick-Slip Vibration of the Clutch during Starting of a Vehicle)

  • A friction-type clutch system sometimes generates spick-slip vibration during engagement, which disturbs smooth start of a car and makes a passenger uncomfortable. In this study, the spick-slip vibration in four types of friction couples was investigated at two different engagement conditions respectively of which the amount of slip time and clutch travel was varied. Results are found as follows. First, the vibration increased at the condition of small engine torque and large torque fluctuations due to higher harmonics of engine speed. Second, the friction couple without a pre-damper has advantages of reducing the vibration. This study also suggested an evaluation method of vehicle vibration in the view point of human perception by using the frequency weighting of ISO2631-1.

  • The evaluation of the ride quality had been performed by the subjective method before ISO2631(International Organization for Stadard 2631) and BS6841(British Standard 6841) was precented, but many research programs have been performed by the objective method after that. On this study, the ride quality was evaluated related with the objective method which considered the vibration which the human body feels on the driver's seat while driving on the road. In particular, we made the shock absorber nonlinear model and also selected the suitable shock absorber in the part of the vibration which the human body feels into the simulation. The shock absorber of suspension was dealt with 3 cases respectively with the front wheel and rear wheel. The vibration of the car driving on the road can be transferred to the wheel, the suspension, the vehicle body, the seat and the human body. The signal which was gained from the seat(hip) and the floor(foot) of the human body was changed to the vibration signal which the human body felt through using the frequency weighting function. And then the performance of the shock absorber was calculated through the statistic processing.

  • OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) 시스템은 주파수 선택적 페이딩(frequency selective fading)과 협대역 간섭(narrowband interference)에 강한 전송 방식으로 대용량 데이터 통신에 적합하다. 하지만 독립적으로 변조된 많은 부반송파들의 중첩으로 신호의 진폭이 증가하여 PAPR(Peak-to-Average Power Ratio)이 증가하는 문제가 발생한다. PAPR 문제를 해결하기 위해 제안된 PTS(Partial Transmit Sequence) 기법은 OFDM 신호를 부블록으로 나눈 후 위상 가중치를 곱하여 PAPR을 감소시킬 수 있지만, 위상 가중치를 탐색하는 과정에서 계산의 복잡도가 부블록 수에 따라 지수적으로 증가하는 단점이 있다. 본 논문에서는 PTS 기법의 위상 탐색 과정에 최적화 기법인 변형된 Greedy 알고리즘과 PSO(Particle Swarm Optimization) 알고리즘을 조합한 MG-PSO(Modified Greedy algorithm-Particle Swarm Optimization) 알고리즘을 적용한 구조를 제안하였다. 이 구조는 PTS 기법의 위상 탐색 과정에서 계산 복잡도가 지수적으로 증가하는 문제를 해결하고 PAPR 감소 성능도 보장할 수 있다. 제안하는 알고리즘을 통신 시스템에 적용하였을 때 PAPR 감소 성능을 분석하였다.

  • 조직 프로쎄싱을 위한 개선된 2-D QPS(Quadrature Polar Separable) 필터와 그의 응용이 본 논문에서 고찰된다. 필터의 주파수 응답은 2개의 독립된 귀불쌍 즉 PSS(Prolate Spheroidal Sequence)에 근거한 라디얼 웨이팅 함수와 Knutsson 필터에서의 방향각 함수에 의해 구성된다. 필터는 2개의 PSS로 구성되는 2-D Cartesian 필터에서와 같이 각 함수를 라디얼 웨이팅 함수에 근사화 시키기 때문에 에너지 손실면에서 최적화되며, 설계명제 조건이 대역폭, 방향각, 그리고 중심 주파수에만 의존하므로 제어하기가 쉽다. 또한 주파수 영역에서 Knutsson 필터보다 순환적 대칭 특성을 갖는다. 주파수 영역에서 로칼 조직의 방향과 주파수 성분을 평가하기 위하여, 조직합성, 방향각 측정, 그리고 조직 세그멘테이션과 같은 몇가지 응용이 고찰된다.

  • 본 연구는 한글자동색인에 관한 연구로 한국전자통신연구소의 DOCUMENT Data Base로부터 299개 문헌의 제목과 초록을 무작위로 추출하여 단어분리를 시도하고, 분리된 단어군, 인식어를 제외한 단어군, 인식어와 불용어를 제외한 단어군, 그리고 인식어와 불용어를 제외하고 복합어를 구성하여 포함한 단어군 등 4개의 시험군을 설정한 후, 파오의 전환점 산출기과 스파크죤스의 역문헌 가중기법, 살톤의 문헌분리 가중기법을 적용하여 색인어를 선정하고 이를 비교 평가하여 한글문헌의 자동색인 방안을 모색하였다.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel post processing method of deconvolution for SAR images based on phase extension inverse filtering, which improves spatial resolution as well as effectively eliminates sidelobes with low computational complexity. It extends the bandwidth only to control the magnitude of the processed SAR data without distortions of the phase in frequency domain unlike the other techniques such as spatially variant apodization (SVA), and other deconvolution techniques. We compare the image processed by the proposed method with images processed by uniform weighting function, Hamming weighting function whose coefficient is 0.75, and SVA.

가중함수에 따른 능동제어 알고리듬의 비교 연구 (Comparative Study on Active Control Algorithms through Weighting Functions)

  • 성능지수는 제어 대상이 되는 구조물의 응답과 제어기의 성능에 관한 가중함수로 구성되어 있다. 따라서 가중함수의 설계에 따라 성능지수가 변화되며 제어 효율이 달라진다. 본 논문에서는 최적 능동제어 알고리듬의 일종인 시간 영역에서의 성능지수를 고려한 LQR기법과 LQG기법 및 주파수 영역에서의 성능지수를 고려한 H₂기법에 대하여 동일한 가중함수를 적용하여 제어 성능인 제어율과 제어력을 비교하는데 목적을 두고 있다. 그러나, LQG기법은 모든 상태 변수를 알아야 하는 LQR기법의 한계를 극복할 수 있으며 LQR기법과 동일 수준의 제어율과 제어력을 보이고 있고 출력 제어라는 장점을 고려하면 현실적인 기법이라고 말할 수 있다. 마지막으로 구조물 응답과 제어기의 주파수 특성을 고려하여 주파수 필터의 가중함수를 설계하는 H₂기법을 분석하였다. H₂기법은 제어력을 저주파수 영역에 집중시킬 수 있기 때문에 구조물 응답을 효과적으로 제어할 수 있는 방법으로 분석되었다.
