Virtual Bass System (VBS) is widely used to extend the lower frequency limit of small loudspeakers, which generates harmonics of a fundamental frequency. The perceptual quality of the VBS is highly dependent on the harmonic weighting strategy. There have been several weighting methods, including exponential attenuation and timbre matching. However, it is essential to match phases between harmonics in the original signal and generate harmonics to precisely convey the weighting strategy. This paper shows the limitations of the previous harmonic weighting schemes and proposes a new harmonic weighting scheme. The proposed weighting scheme proposes phase matching between the original and generated harmonics and varies the slope of the attenuation weighting dynamically according to the missing fundamental frequency. Objective and subjective tests show that the proposed harmonic weighting scheme provides more natural and effective bass perception in a limited situation than the conventional schemes, which implies that the phase matching is essential for the high quality bass enhancement.
Trabecular-bone-mimicking phantoms consisting of parallel-nylon-wire arrays were used to investigate correlations of phase velocity and attenuation coefficient with structural properties in trabecular bone. Trabecular separation (Tb.Sp) of the 7 trabecular-bone-mimicking phantoms ranged from 300 to $900\;{\mu}m$ and volume fraction (VF) from 1.6% to 8.7%. Phase velocity and attenuation coefficient of the phantoms were measured by using a through-transmission method in water, with a matched pair of broadband unfocused transducers with a diameter of 12.7 mm and a center frequency of 1 MHz. Phase velocity and attenuation coefficient at 1 MHz decreased almost linearly with increasing Tb. Sp and increased almost linearly with increasing VF. The simple and multiple linear regression models with phase velocity and attenuation coefficient as independent vanables and Tb.Sp and VF as dependent variables demonstrated that the coefficients of determination for the prediction of VF were higher than those for the prediction of Tb.Sp. The results obtained in the trabecular-bone-mimicking phantoms consisting of parallel-nylon-wire arrays were consistent with those in human trabecular bone suggesting that the structural properties can be estimated from the measurements of phase velocity and attenuation coefficient in trabecular bone.
In the previous study, we reported that the in viかo inhibitory effect of ginsenosides, active ingredient of Panax ginseng, on $5-HT_{3A}$ receptor channel activity is coupled to in vivo anti-vomiting and anti-nausea effect. In the present study, we further investigated that the inhibitory effect of ginsenosides, active ingredient of Panax ginseng, on 5-HT3A receptor channel activity is also coupled to attenuation of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), which is induced by colorectal distention (CRD) and $0.6\%$ acetic acid treatment. The CRD-induced visceral pains induced by CRD and acetic acid treatment are measured by frequency of contractions of the external oblique muscle in conscious rats. Treatment of GTS significantly inhibited CRD-induced visceral pain with dose-dependent manner. The $EC_{50}$ was $5.5{\pm}4.7$ mg/kg ($95\%$ confidence intervals: 1.2-15.7) and the antinociceptive effect of GTS on visceral pain was persistent for 4 h. We also compared the effects of protopanaxadiol (PD) ginsenosides and protopanaxatriol (PT) ginsenosides with saline on acetic acid-and CRD-induced visceral pain, and found that protopanaxatriol (PT) ginsenosides was much more potent than PD ginsenosides in attenuating CRD-induced visceral pain. These results indicate that U ginsenosides of Panax ginseng are components far attenuation of experimentally CRD-induced visceral pains.

This paper describes that the compensation of frequency dependent attenuation (F.D.A.) and faithful envelope detection using the analytic signal magnitude (A.S.M.) improve the range resolut ion in an acoustic medium. It is shown that a mean of computing the magnitude of. analytic signal is better than that of conventional A-mode. In addition, this proposed method is much easier than the above methods to detect two closely spaced interfaces on the A-mode. As the result of experiment, we obtained range resolution of 0.5 mm with transducer of 3.5 MHz. This method can be applied to medical experiment, diagonostic and nondestructive testing.

This paper includes summarization and analysis of previous research results on acoustic attenuation due to particles and flow turning in rocket motors among various damping parameters. Particle damping is the most effective mechanism in suppressing high-frequency combustion instabilities occurring in rocket combustion chambers, which is dependent on the size and the mass fraction of particles. Relatively weak attenuation by flow turning compared to particle damping depends on the geometry of propellant and a combustion chamber. Pumping driving effects need to be taken into account when realizing vorticity generation on the propellant surface. However, its driving effects become cancelled out by flow turning loss when the propellant geometry is cylindrical.

This paper describes propagation characteristics obtained by considering semiconducting screen and cross-bonding in underground transmission cables. The semiconducting screen of power cable has effect on propagation characteristics including attenuation, velocity and surge impedance. However, it is very difficult to apply the semiconduction screen for EMTP model because of the number of conductors limitation. Therefore, CIGRE WG 21-05 proposed advanced insulation structure and analysis technique of simplified approach including inner and outer semiconducting screen. In this paper, the various propagation characteristics analyse using this structure and technique for 154kV XLPE $2000mm^2$ cable. The frequency independent model of EMTP CABLE PARAMETER is used for just pattern analysis of propagation characteristics. For exact data analysis, the frequency dependent model of J-marti is used for EMTP modeling. From these result, various propagation characteristics of 154kV XLPE $2000mm^2$ cable according to semi conducting screen consideration, frequency range, cable length and pulse width are analysed. In addition, in this paper, the effects of cross-bonding are also variously discussed according to cross-bonding methods, direct connection and impedance of lead cable.

A characterization procedure for analyzing symmetric coupled MIS(Metal-Insulator-Semiconductor) transmission line is used the same procedure as a general single layer symmetric coupled line with perfect dielectric substrate from the extraction of the characteristic impedance and propagation constant for even- and odd-mode. In this paper, an analysis for a new substrate shielding symmetric coupled MIS structure consisting of grounded crossbar at the interface between Si and SiO2 layer using the Finite-Difference Time-Domain (FDTD) method is presented. In order to reduce the substrate effects on the transmission line characteristics, a shielding structure consisting of grounded crossbar lines over time-domain signal has been examined. Symmetric coupled MIS transmission line parameters for even- and odd-mode are investigated as the functions of frequency, and the extracted distributed frequency-dependent transmission line parameters and corresponding equivalent circuit parameters as well as quality factor for the new MIS crossbar embedded structure are also presented. It is shown that the quality factor of the symmetric coupled transmission line can be improved without significant change in the characteristic impedance and effective dielectric constant.

In this paper, we propose a new cross bar embedded structure for improvement of attenuation characteristics along the different lossy media. A general characterization procedure based on the extraction of the characteristic impedance and propagation constant for analyzing a single MIS(Metal-Insulator-Semiconductor) transmission line used and an analysis for a new substrate shielding MIS structure consisting of grounded crossbars at the interface between Si and Sio2 layer using the Finite-Difference Time-Domain(FDTD) technique is used. In order to reduce the substrate effects on the transmission line characteristics, a shielding structure consisting of grounded cross bar lines over time-domain signal has been examined. The extracted, distributed frequency-dependent transmission line parameters as well as the line voltages and currents, and also corresponding equivalent circuit parameters have been examined as function of frequency. It is shown that the quality factor of the transmission line can be improved without significant changes in the characteristic impedance and effective dielectric constant.
This research aims to develop an empirical model for simulation of time-varying frequency in earthquake ground motion so as to be used easily in engineering applications. Briefly, 10545 recordings of the Next Generation Attenuation (NGA) global database of accelerograms from shallow crustal earthquakes are selected and binned by magnitude, distance and site condition. Then the wavelet spectrum of each acceleration record is calculated by using one-dimensional continuous wavelet transform, and the frequencies corresponding to the maximum values of the wavelet spectrum at a series of sampling time, named predominant frequencies, are extracted to analyze the variation of frequency content of seismic ground motions in time. And the time-variation of the predominant frequencies of 178 magnitude-distance-site bins for different directions are obtained by calculating the mean square root of predominant frequencies within a bin. The exponential trigonometric function is then use to fit the data, which describes the predominant frequency of ground-motion as a function of time with model parameters given in tables for different magnitude, distance, site conditions and direction. Finally, a practical frequency-dependent amplitude envelope function is developed based on the time-varying frequency derived in this paper, which has clear statistical parameters and can emphasize the effect of low-frequency components on later seismic action. The results illustrate that the time-varying predominant frequency can preferably reflect the non-stationarity of the frequency content in earthquake ground motions and that empirical models given in this paper facilitates the simulation of ground motions.
